Chapter 69- Father and Son Tension

All throughout the day in the office I just kept thinking about what my Mom said, I really didn't want to talk to my Dad. In fact he was the last person I wanted to see but I didn't have a choice, I was doing it for my mother's happiness.

I shut down my computer with a sigh as I rubbed my face in frustration.

My Mom was such an Angel and she deserves all the happiness in the world. I found out that even after telling her that Anna was fine she still found time to visit her. She's the best mother anyone could ask for, she has always been my backbone, pushing me to be a better version of myself.

Well as for my dad, William has been the apple of his eyes.

I stood up as I took my suit jacket and wore it, then I took my bag containing the remaining work I needed to finish as I walked out of my office.

Anna had already been discharged and taken back home. For my peace of mind I hired someone to watch their surroundings, I couldn't afford for anything to happen to her again, I already learnt my lesson and if anything like that happens again I'm going to go crazy.

I got into the elevator as I pressed the button for the ground floor and then when the elevator reached the ground floor I stepped out and walked out of the building.

As soon as I was outside, the cold night air slapped my face, calming my raging nerves. It was always like this anytime I wanted to meet with my father.

I got into my car as I started the car and drove off, heading to our family house.

I drove into the mansion and stopped in front of the house as I stepped out of the car with a sigh.

I met my mom waiting for me just as I stepped into the building.

“ Mom," I said as I kissed her on the cheeks and she smiled,

“ Try not to get into a fight with your father," she said as she patted my back and I nodded,

“ I hope you said that to him too,” I said and she chuckled,

“ Where is he?" I asked her,

“ In his study," she said and I nodded before I kissed her on the head,

“ Don't eavesdrop, Mom," I said and she chuckled before walking away.

I walked to my dad's study and knocked on the door.

“ Come in," I heard his voice from inside as I opened the door and walked in.

“ Hello Dad," I greeted and he nodded as he pointed to the chair in front of him and I walked to it and sat down.

It became quiet as I patiently waited for him to speak.

“ Why don't you always agree with me?" he suddenly asked,

“ Well, because I'm a grown ass man that can make decisions for his life by himself," I said as he narrowed his eyes at me.

“ Cole,"

“ Dad," I said and he didn't look too pleased, not like he was ever pleased with what I did.

“ This is going to be for the good of our family you know that right?" he asked but I shook my head,

“ What about what's good for me?" I asked him,

“ Cole, I didn't call you here to argue with me, we have to talk like two grown men for once,” he said,

" It's not my fault that you always want to control me or compare me with my dead brother, so forgive me if I don't agree with you sometimes," I said,

“ Mirabel Oscar is a very good choice for you, if our family joins together through marriage we'll do wonders together and it's good that she already loves you, don't you see this Cole?" he said like he expected me to make sense of what he was saying.

“ I don't see anything Dad," I said,

“ For God's sake Cole, what's wrong with you?" he asked, trying to control himself from getting angry, I had a feeling my mom must have given him serious warning because he looked like he could barely restrain himself from getting angry.

“ Were you ever forced to marry Mom?" I asked as I saw something flash in his eyes,

“ That isn't what we are talking about,” He said trying to dodge the question,

" You were never forced to marry Mom, you fell in love with her then why do you want me to marry someone I don't love? Is it because I'm not your favorite son and you don't care about my own happiness?” I asked,

" Can I ever have a conversation without you mentioning your brother?” he asked as he stood up and turned his back on me.

“ You're asking me that? Really? Who's the one trying to make me feel like I'm not worthy of anything? Who's the one making me feel like it'd be better if I was the dead one?”

" You know that isn't true Cole, this is all in your head,” he said as he turned to me and for a minute I thought I saw that father I once knew but it was gone before I could really confirm what I saw.

“ For once just listen to me Cole," he said but I shook my head also standing up,

It didn't look like our conversation was going anywhere.

“ I'd listen to you if you were saying something that didn't involve getting married to a woman for business sake, anything but that,” I said,

" But this is for your own good,” he said trying to convince me,

" No, you're doing this for the company, for your own good," I said and he scoffed,

“ Who gets the company when I'm no more, it's you, everything I've worked hard for will be yours,” he said,

" You sound like you're not really happy about that,” I said and I saw his jaw clenched,

“ Cole, don't push it," he warned,

“ Dad I tried, I don't think this will work, good night," I said as I started making my way to the door,

“ That little love haze you have going on, I'd advise you to come out of it,"
