Chapter 95- His Brother's Death
I saw the way his hand clenched on the steering wheel and I instantly knew I shouldn't have asked the question.
“ I'm sorry baby, you don't have to answer," I said as I touched his hand and he loosened up a bit.
The car became quiet and I felt bad for bringing the topic up at this time but it's just that his dad made me want to know how the accident happened, maybe he blames Cole for something that's why he's just the way he is.
The car was quiet until Cole stopped in front of my gate.
“ Good night love, please don't be mad,” I said as I kissed his cheek and was about to open the door and go out but his hand stopped me.
“ He blames me, he blames me for William's death," he said and I turned to him.
" Babe,” I said with a sigh as I moved closer to him and hugged him.
“ One night my brother came back home looking devastated and heartbroken, I asked him what the problem was and he told me he had a fight with his girlfriend, she was obviously cheating on him with another man,” he stopped as he rested his head on my shoulder and I started running my fingers through his hair.
" He was really hurt and just wanted to get out, I told him everything was going to be alright and she wasn't deserving of him but I think he loved her too deeply and you know what was even funny? My Dad didn't want her but he convinced him that she was the one. I think that's one of the reasons he doesn't support our relationship but you're nothing like that woman,” he said as he held my hand and kissed me.
“ He told me we should go out and although I told him drinking wasn't going to sort anything out, he insisted on going out, so we went out. I drove us to the club and we had a few drinks. I ended up being the drunk one when I should have been sober for my brother, that's why my father always sees him as the responsible one. He drove that night and I don't remember much but when I woke up, I was in the hospital and my brother was… dead. I should have stopped him from going out and even at that I should have been there for him but like the shitty brother I was, I got drunk, I don't know what happened that night, that was not the plan Anna, I wanted to be there for him but I let him down,” he said and I started feeling something wet on my shoulder.
His tears.
" I should have been there for my brother but I let him die, I should have been there for him,” he cried as I held onto him tightly.
“ Don't blame yourself for it, it wasn't your fault, you didn't want any of that to happen,” I said as I rubbed his head while his tears fell on my chest.
I was trying really hard not to join him in crying as I kissed his head.
“ It's not your fault," I said as my voice cracked,
He cried on my chest until he stopped crying and the car just became quiet.
“ Do you feel better now?” I asked him and he chuckled,
" You've seen me cry, I think it's time I kill you,” he said and I laughed as I hugged him tightly.
“ You've seen me cry too,” I said, and he laughed,
" You're a woman,” he said,
" That doesn't change anything, it doesn't mean that men can't cry. You have emotions too,” I said… “ Listen Cole, sometimes things happen and we don't have control of it, that's how life is, I want you to know that his death wasn't your fault. I know you're hurt about his death but you didn't have a hand in it,”
" I don't know what I'll do without you, I wish my father would just stop giving troubles so we can finally get married, I can't wait to see what you'll look like in your wedding dress,” he said,
" I'd make a beautiful bride,”
" I know you will,” he said,
" As much as I don't want to leave, it's late and you should probably get home,” I said,
" Kiss, kiss,” he said as I wiped his tear stained eyes and kissed him.
He kissed me as his hand held the back of my head and drew me closer.
“ I love you my baby," he whispered before pulling away from the kiss.
“ I love you more," I said and he laughed,
“ Don't start an argument you can't win,” he said and I just smiled.
“ Good night my love," I said before I opened the car door and walked out as I waved at him.
“ Go in, I'll watch you," he said and I nodded.
I opened the gate and got in as I waved again before I opened my house door and walked in.
I quickly walked to the window and I saw that his car was still parked there. I stood there until he started the car and drove off.
I brought down the blind before I walked to Bella's room, we've not seen each other since Saturday.
I opened the room door and just as expected she wasn't asleep.
“ Look who's back from her honeymoon," she said and I laughed as I climbed on the bed with her.
She suddenly gasped and I knew what she saw.
“ No way," she said as she brought her hand to cover her mouth in shock.
I didn't tell her about the engagement because I wanted to surprise her and she sure looks surprised.
“ He engaged you," she stated as a matter of fact and I nodded as my eyes shone with tears.
“ I'm so happy, I'm so happy for you," she said as she tackled me in a hug. For someone whose legs were recovering she was pretty strong.
“ Thank you Bella," I said.
“ You deserve this, both of you, you just deserve to be happy, nothing is going to ever separate you absolutely nothing, because you're both meant for each other," she said and I nodded.
I can't believe it, I'm going to get married to the love of my life and I know there's nothing that can stop that.
Not even his father.
