Chapter 1

“I’m the girlfriend of a published author!” Jax shouted as she held our interlocked hands in the air.

I shook my head at her, but couldn’t stop myself from smiling. I bumped my hip against hers and squeezed her hand. “Babe,” I whispered in the most stern voice I could muster.

Jax squeezed my hand back and gave me her signature smirk that I couldn’t resist. “What? Am I not allowed to be excited? I’ve been waiting for this for years.”

I had to suppress an eye roll. My girlfriend could be so dramatic sometimes. “It hasn’t even been three years since I decided to write the book.”

“It’ll be exactly three years next week.”

“But who’s counting, right?” I teased.

Jax put her hand on her chest and scoffed. “I am, obviously.”

My heart warmed, because I knew she meant it.

For someone who had never been in a serious relationship before, Jax was the perfect partner.

She was a hopeless romantic and didn’t hesitate to show it.

I could read all of the romance books in the world, and I already knew no character would ever compare to her.

Even after all of this time together, I still had to pinch myself to see if it was real. Being with Jax was like a dream.

“I love you. You know that, right?”

Jax stopped walking and twirled me in a circle, before dipping me and placing a kiss on my lips.

Swoon.

“And I love you too, my dear.” Instead of continuing to walk, Jax turned to face me and grabbed the hand she wasn’t already holding. “Now that you’re a famous author, what’s next for you, Miss Miller-Cooper?”

I chuckled. “Famous is a bit of an exaggeration. We don’t even know if anyone is going to buy my book.”

“We know one person.” Jax wiggled her eyebrows, then nodded her head toward her backpack that was holding the first copy of my book sold at Benny’s Books—a small independent bookstore in the city who happened to hear about my book and requested to sell it in their store.

Jax claimed it was a complete coincidence that the owner, Benny, came to Serenity Sips for coffee every day.

She definitely hadn’t told him about my books. Well, maybe it slipped out in conversation once or twice. That was all Jax would give me even though we both knew a New York City bookstore didn’t mysteriously find out about my independently published book and decide they had to have it.

“Thanks for always being my biggest fan.” I leaned in and gave Jax another kiss. “I love you so much.”

Jax’s gorgeous blue eyes stared deeply into mine, making my heartbeat pick up the way it always did when she looked at me like that. I stared back at her, so caught up in the moment that the hustle and bustle of the city melted away around us.

That is, until a man in a suit who was focused on his phone bumped into me, causing me to stumble into Jax. The man continued walking without acknowledging me as if he had run into an inanimate object instead of a person.

“Still convinced you love New York City?” Jax asked with a laugh.

“Believe it or not, yes.” I placed a kiss on Jax’s cheek before pulling her along so we didn’t end up pissing someone off for stopping on the sidewalk. “But, honestly, I’d love anywhere that I’m with you.”

It was true. My life had gotten a million times better since moving to New York, but most of that was thanks to Jax. I was so happy living here, but I could be stuck in the middle of the ocean and still be happy as long as I had Jax.

“Babe!” Jax’s voice went so high, it squeaked. “That’s beautiful. You should be a writer.” Jax’s walk became more of a skip. “Oh wait. You already are. Speaking of which, now that I have my official copy, what are we doing to celebrate?”

Celebrate? I hadn’t really thought about celebrating. I was so stressed about putting this book out into the world, I hadn’t taken the time to appreciate what I had accomplished. Thank god for Jax. She saw things in me that I didn’t see in myself.

I yawned without meaning to. I had purposely released my book on a Saturday so I wasn’t working on my first ever release day, but now I was completely exhausted from my long week.

“Would you hate me if I said I’d love to celebrate by ordering pizza and snuggling up on the couch with Speck to watch a movie? ”

“That’s exactly what I was hoping you’d say.”

I knew Jax would have said that no matter what I suggested, but that was one of the many things I loved about her.

We spent the rest of the walk to our apartment in a comfortable silence. As soon as we opened the door, Speck jumped off of the couch and ran over to us, spinning around in circles the same way he always did when we came home.

Jax crouched down on the floor and immediately began to rub his belly. “Who’s my good boy? Who’s mama’s goodest boy? I love you so much. Yes I do. I love you.”

Jax picked up Speck and held him toward me. “Now, give your mommy lots of kisses. She’s a published author, you know.”

As if he was actually listening and wouldn’t have done it anyway, Speck’s tongue immediately came out and he licked my face until I wiggled away.

Jax laughed and set him on the floor, then took out her phone to order pizza from our favorite local restaurant. She smiled at me as she laid her phone down on the kitchen bar. “It’s going to be here in about an hour. What would you like to do in the meantime?”

I looked into Jax’s eyes and became lost once again.

I still couldn’t believe this amazing woman looked at me as if I was the one who hung the stars.

She was always so supportive, but she had gone above and beyond for this book release.

My muscles suddenly tensed and my center throbbed.

Shit. Why is supportiveness such a fucking turn-on for me?

I put my arms around Jax and slipped my hands into her back pockets, squeezing her ass as I did. I brought my mouth to her ear and made my words extra breathy. “I think the real question is who I’d like to do.”

Jax’s eyes widened in surprise for just a second before she regained her composure and bit her lip seductively.

She’s so fucking sexy.

Jax wrapped her arms around me as well and put her hands into my back pocket, copying the move I had just made. “There better only be one answer to that,” Jax teased before leaning in for a kiss.

Instead of responding to her, I deepened our kiss. I moaned at the feeling of her tongue against mine. My toes curled in my shoes and the throbbing of my center intensified.

Even though I didn’t want this kiss to end, there was something else I wanted more, so I forced myself to pull away.

“I think we should take this to the bedroom.” I whispered as I struggled to catch my breath.

It never ceased to amaze me how quickly things could go from sweet to spicy with me and Jax.

Much to my surprise, Jax shook her head. “Can’t,” she said breathlessly. “Too turned on.”

In one swift motion she pushed me toward the kitchen bar and lifted me onto it, immediately unbuttoning my shorts as soon as my ass hit the hard surface. I lifted my hips so Jax could pull off my shorts and underwear. She was a woman on a mission and there was no way I was going to stop her.

As soon as I was naked from the waist down, Jax knelt in front of me and brought her face between my legs. I grabbed onto her head just as her tongue shot out and ran through my folds.

Holy shit. That feels good.

When I whimpered in response to Jax licking an especially sensitive spot, she licked it again. “Fuck, yes,” I moaned. “Fuck, babe. Keep doing that.”

As if she was purposely trying to do the exact opposite of what I asked, Jax pulled away and smirked up at me. “I love when you talk dirty to me.”

I loved this woman so much, and as much as I wanted to tell her that, I also loved the dynamic we had in bed (or on a counter in this case). I couldn’t let the moment pass without saying exactly what she expected from me. “I love when you stop talking and do what I need you to.”

“Fuck.” Jax groaned and brought her face between my legs once again.

“Good girl,” I said as I put my hands back into her hair.

Jax groaned once again before sucking my clit into her mouth in the way she knew drove me completely insane. Fuuuuck.

“Fuck yeah, baby. Suck it hard.”

Jax nodded in response, causing her tongue to vibrate against my clit and bringing me to the edge of what was sure to be a mind-numbing orgasm.

When I moaned in response, she moved her tongue to my opening and shoved it inside.

My hips gyrated against her face, causing her tongue to go even deeper inside of me.

My whole body screamed in pleasure as I struggled to hold on.

The tingles escalating from Jax’s tongue inside of me spread throughout my body.

Every muscle tensed and I didn’t know how much more of this I could take, but it felt so good, I didn’t want it to stop. Ever.

“Ah, gonna come. Gonna come inside your mouth.”

Jax’s head moved up and down excitedly as if she loved that idea. I held Jax tight up against me, but somehow she was able to slip her fingers onto my clit. She rubbed it while fucking me with her tongue. Any chance of hanging on completely shattered, and my body shook as I climaxed.

“Fuck,” I whispered breathlessly as my fingers untangled from Jax’s hair.

Jax sat back and gave me a satisfied grin. “You don’t say,” she teased.

I put my hand over my rapidly beating heart and watched as it moved along with my chest during every heaving breath.

“You still turn me on so much even after all this time,” I said with a laugh.

God, it feels good to be in love. This was a thought that popped into my head at least once a day.

I didn’t know love could feel like this until I met Jax.

Speaking of Jax… I nodded across the apartment. “Let’s take this to our bedroom. After that, you deserve the star treatment.”

Jax bit her lip and wiggled her eyebrows. “Which star treatment are you thinking for tonight?”
