Chapter 1 #2

I tried to lift one eyebrow, but I could tell by the way Jax was smirking at me that I had failed as usual. “I’m going to put on the strap and push it so deep inside of you that you forget your name.”

“Can’t wait.” Jax’s smile became even bigger. “You don’t have to worry about remembering your name, because it’s tattooed on my ass.”

I didn’t even try to suppress my eye roll at Jax’s reference to her ass tattoo that literally said Your Name. “Please don’t ruin the moment.”

Jax gave me a smoldering look we both knew I couldn’t resist. “Could anything actually ruin this moment?”

As if answering her question, my phone rang immediately after she asked it.

“Just ignore it,” I told her. “We’ll call whoever it is when we’re done.”

Jax appeared as if she was about to follow me, but at the last moment, her eyes darted toward my phone.

Much to my chagrin, she picked it up and held it out toward me.

“It’s your mom, though. She’s probably calling to congratulate you on releasing your book.

You should talk to her. It’s the least you can do for the woman who designed your book cover. ”

I sighed because I knew Jax was right. “Fine. But as soon as we’re off, it’s your turn.”

Jax put both of her hands in the air. “Do you really think I’m going to argue with that?”

I grabbed the phone from her hand, but as soon as I did, it stopped ringing. I was about to call back, when my mom called again, but this time over FaceTime. She’s really not giving up.

I jumped down from the counter and put my underwear and shorts back on. I quickly pulled my hair back into a ponytail, then hit the accept button to answer the call. “Hey, Mom!” I said as naturally as possible, even though I was still trying to catch my breath.

My mom’s brown hair was pulled back, matching mine.

I swore, the older I got, the less I looked like my siblings and the more I looked like my mom, which didn’t make much sense since we all came from her eggs.

I knew Olivia would say it’s because our styles match, and…

well, she wasn’t exactly wrong. I didn’t care though.

My mom was the coolest person I knew. There were much worse people to be like.

Plus, Jax clearly saw something in me, and that’s all that really mattered.

“Congrats on the release, sweetie!” my mom screamed. She reached out of the frame and held up a copy. “Mine came in the mail today.” She opened it up and flipped through the pages, sighing as she did. “Although, I have to say, I’m a bit disappointed this isn’t signed by the amazing author.”

I rolled my eyes. “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll sign it the next time I come to visit.”

Jax wiggled into the frame and held up her copy. “Only if I get my copy signed by the amazing cover designer.”

My mom laughed and shook her head. “Of course. I can most certainly do that for you, Jax.”

Two hands landed on my mom’s shoulders and then Olivia’s face came into view. “Dude! Congrats on the book. I read it again already and still can’t get over those sex scenes. Didn’t know you had it in you.”

My mom gently shoved Olivia away. “I must admit that I skip over certain scenes, but your sister isn’t wrong. Your writing is exquisite. I can’t wait to read your next book.”

I cringed. “If there’s a next book.” I was so caught up on making this one perfect that I wore myself out. The last thing I wanted to do right now was write another one.

“I think there will be.” My mom waved her hand in front of the screen. “I mean, look at you. You’re absolutely glowing.”

I heard a snort off to the side of my mom, and then Olivia shoved herself back into the frame. “I don’t think that has anything to do with the book.” She laughed and turned her eyes toward Jax, who was standing beside me. “Am I right, bestie? Did you give her a little celebratory…”

My mom cleared her throat before Olivia could finish. Thank god.

“Ignore your sister. She’s doing everything she can to drive me crazy today.”

“What are you doing there anyway?” I asked Olivia.

“Celebrating Mom’s newest cover design, obviously.”

My mom lifted an eyebrow at Olivia. “Is that so? It has nothing to do with the fact that Quinton isn’t home to cook for you?”

Olivia lifted her hands in the air. “It looks like we all benefit. Lucky us.”

I found it funny how immature my sister could still be at times. We were over thirty and she had been married for a year now, but even Quinton couldn’t make her grow up.

My mom rolled her eyes at Olivia before looking back at me. “We’ll let you two go. I just wanted to call and congratulate you. I’m sure Mama will call in a little bit too. She’s a little busy making your sister food right now.”

Olivia smirked. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to keep her busy so Jax can continue to…”

“Bye!” my mom shouted over my sister before cutting off our call.

I turned toward Jax, who looked exceptionally cute with the little bit of blush that had crept onto her cheeks. I pointed at my phone. “That’s your best friend.”

Jax cracked a smile and it felt like my heart cracked open at the same time. “Yeah, well, she’s your sister.”

“Exactly. I’m stuck with her. You chose her.”

“As much as I love your sister,” Jax rested her hands on my hips and leaned in to place the softest kiss on my lips, “why are we talking about her right now?” She kissed my jaw, then continued a path of kisses down my neck. “I believe you promised to make me forget my name.”

I brought my mouth to Jax’s ear and gently bit it. My center throbbed when she moaned in response. “Set a timer for five minutes and wait outside the apartment until it goes off.”

Jax smirked and lifted an eyebrow. “What happened to taking this to the bedroom?”

That had been my original plan, but the interruption had given me time to come up with an even better idea. “I figured since we are doing this in celebration of my book release, I could make up a story for us right now.”

Jax swallowed hard, but quickly recovered. “Are you suggesting a little role play, Miss Miller-Cooper?”

“I am.” I ran a finger up Jax’s arm slowly.

Sometimes I even surprised myself with how much different I became when sex was on the line.

I leaned close to whisper into Jax’s ear again.

“Our apartment is the cafe you own. You just hired a new baker and you’re about to meet her.

It turns out, though, she wants to make something other than pastries. ”

“Oh yeah? What does she want to make?”

Jax’s choked voice was such a turn-on. I loved that I had that effect on her, especially after being together for almost three years.

I moved my hand down Jax’s body and into her pants. “She wants to make you come.”

Jax threw her head back and groaned. “Fuuuck.”

I could already feel her wetness collecting on my fingers, but I had to force myself to pull my hand away or else we’d never get the chance to act out this fantasy. I nodded toward the door, my breathing already heavy just from the thought of having my way with Jax. “You know what to do.”

Jax nodded excitedly. “Yes. Timer. Five minutes. You got it, boss.”

Once she had walked out the door, I quickly started my mission of making this as hot as possible, which might be a tough task given what little time I had to prepare. God knows how much I like to prepare. Even sex wasn’t safe.

I went into the bedroom closet and took out the box that had all of our sex toys in it.

Luckily, the strap-on was on top, so I didn’t have to search for it.

I got undressed as fast as possible and pulled on the harness.

I checked my reflection in the mirror and felt like something was missing.

As much as I knew Jax would enjoy opening the door to find me completely naked aside from the strap, it didn’t seem to go with the role play I was trying to pull off.

A wide smile spread across my face when an idea popped into my head.

I jogged to the kitchen and pulled open the drawers until I found Jax’s “Kiss the Chef” apron.

My smile grew even more when I pictured the first time I saw her wearing it.

It seemed like a lifetime ago that I was fumbling around the kitchen, teaching Jax how to cook, and ignoring my growing feelings.

Somehow, at the same time, it also felt like it had just happened yesterday.

Jax had the ability to slow time down and speed it up all at once.

I wanted to soak in every little moment with her, but she made life so amazing, the good times seemed to end in the blink of an eye.

Thank god we have forever together. That thought had been popping into my head more and more lately.

I knew Jax was the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with.

The two of us had discussed it countless times.

Now, it just needed to be official. The only problem was that I was still waiting for Jax to ask.

After I confessed my feelings to her on stage in front of everyone at my Uncle Ethan’s cafe, she called dibs on being the one to propose.

I was starting to get antsy though, and if she didn’t do it soon, I was worried I might break my promise and do it myself.

I jumped when I heard Jax’s timer alarm go off in the hallway. “Shit,” I whispered to myself as I hurriedly (and sloppily) put on the apron. I was just smoothing it out when Jax walked in the door.

She ran her eyes up and down my body and licked her lips. “Holy shit.” She cleared her throat as if she remembered what we were supposed to be doing. “I mean, hi. You must be the new baker.”

She reached her hand out toward me and when I took it in mine, I found that it was clammy. Already have her sweating. Perfect. “It’s so nice to meet you. What are you making today? Any good desserts?”

I ran my eyes up and down Jax’s body and bit my bottom lip. “I don’t think any dessert I make could possibly taste as good as you.”
