Chapter 6 #3
Tina was cutting and although there was
a lot of hair on the floor, when she looked her length wasn’t much
shorter. When the cutting was done, she began drying and styling.
“It won’t look bad if you don’t style it, just
different.”
“Thanks Tina. It’s
fabulous.”
“We’ve got to get some
clothing now.” Ariel admitted.
Bindi couldn’t imagine where. They went
right back to Ariel’s house. “Why here?”
“We don’t have time to go
to Branson. I’ve got a closet full, and I know some will work for
you.” They were in Ariel’s room now looking through her closet.
Ariel pulled out a black dress, a purple business suit with a
skirt, a brown suit with pants, and three pretty shirts to wear
with them. Jeans, shirts, a jacket, and a pretty top.
“What size shoes do you
wear?”
“Six and a half.” Bindi
replied.
“Try these. They are too
tight on me. I need to see if Marissa is home.” Ariel made a quick
call and came back. “She’s on her way with the rest that we need.
Let’s bag this up and get a drink and a snack while we
wait.”
Bindi was in shock. “I can’t take all
this.”
“Sure, you can. I was about
to clean out my closet any way. I buy new things every three to six
months.” Ariel replied.
They had it in two large bags then
Ariel led her to the kitchen where they got a drink and a piece of
cherry pie. “This is good.”
The pie was gone by the time Marissa
and Damon came in. He was helping her carry some packages. “I’m
here to save the day. I have a pair of sky high black heels with a
matching clutch. There’s a brown pair of one inch heels also with a
matching purse. One pair of slip ons in navy with a matching bag.
Also, some hosiery, underwear, and surprise lingerie in the last
bag. I hope that’s all that was needed?” Marissa said.
“Damon, could you put that
in Duroc’s truck, the back seat, please?” Ariel asked. Of course,
he did. “I have an old set of suitcases I bet you could
use.”
“This is too
much.”
“Can you believe her mate
dropped a trip to meet his family on her today?” Ariel
asked.
“Mates just don’t
understand what we females have to go through.” Marissa agreed.
“Don’t you worry about what’s too much. Someday, I believe you’ll
be in a position to help someone who really needs it. Maybe several
someones. Just help them. We all need to do more of
that.”
“Did you see that?” Bindi
asked.
“You know we can’t talk
about that. But if you need help in the future because of new
responsibilities, we’re always glad to help you.” Marissa
promised.
Bindi headed back to Duroc with her
head full of questions and her truck full of new things to pack for
their trip. When she got out, Duroc who had come out to greet her,
stared. It took her a moment to remember she looked different. “I
got my hair cut.”
“You look amazing.” Duroc
admitted.
“I also got some things and
need help carrying them in.”
Just like a guy, he managed to get all
but a couple things and looked weighed down. She grabbed those
items then ran ahead and got the door so he could get inside. He
dropped the goods on the couch, and she did as well. Tonight, she
would need everything packed so she began right now.
She picked out something to wear on the
plane and it was jeans and a nice top. Bindi even picked out
something to change at the airport into in order to make a good
impression on his folks. It was true she was nervous about meeting
them no matter how Duroc tried to assure her they were just people.
Those things she put in the larger bag including the shoes that
matched that bag.
Bindi might worry that she could be the
mate Duroc needed, but she refused to allow anyone to see it. The
impression she made on his parents might last a lifetime and she
wanted it to be the best possible one. This last minute trip wasn’t
easy for her, but she would stand up to the challenge and make no
excuses.
There was makeup in her drawer as well
as jewelry. Those she planned to take she put in a small bag then
in the large suitcase except for what would be used tomorrow which
went in her bag. The poor bag was about as full as it could get but
she still had a wallet and a few other things to add.
Once her two suitcases were packed, she
took them out to the living room. Duroc would load them when he
loaded his. She took her ereader too with earplugs since she had
some audio books on it. Bindi looked around to be sure she had what
she needed. Yeah, that was it.
They went to bed determined to get a
good night’s sleep to prepare for a busy day. Duroc was still awake
when she went to sleep. In the morning, he still looked tired.
Perhaps he was concerned and didn’t want her to know? If so, was it
her meeting with his parents or something else that caused this
anxious outlook?
She dressed and Ariel’s jeans and top
fit well but were just a tad loose. It was a good fit for someone
active. The makeup she put on lightly and the bracelet Duroc had
given her went on her right arm. This was more for good luck than
anything else. Bindi didn’t wear much jewelry or makeup since it
got in the way when she worked hard.
“Are you ready?” Duroc
asked.
“Yes, I’m coming.” She
grabbed her bag, looked to make sure everything was full, and
headed out behind him.
It wasn’t far to Ariel’s new airport.
She’d gotten some level land in the last batch she’d bought. The
house on the property she rented to someone in her pack. The plane
sitting there was one the of the better ones Tyne rented from time
to time. ”One of Tyne’s planes?”
“Hey, don’t look at me. I
wasn’t expecting this either.” Duroc admitted.
“Surprises are rarely
good.”
“Let’s go and see who is
along for the ride.”
“Very funny.” Bindi
commented.
They grabbed their luggage. She had a
large and a medium one while Duroc had a small one. That made sense
since he probably had clothes at his parent’s home. It was a shock
the see Damon and Marissa.
“You didn’t tell me.” Bindi
accused.
“I wasn’t sure if we were
going and if we were on the plane, if we were going with you.”
Marissa explained. “We do a lot of confidential stuff.”
“Okay. Since we’re about to
be on our way, can you tell me now?”
Marissa’s eyes went to Damon. “Only the
basics.” He said.
“We’re going to investigate
your former pack. Duroc’s pack has information as you do and that’s
where we’ll start.” Marissa explained.
Bindi paled. “I don’t have to see them,
do I?”
“No, not now but eventually
you may. Was it that bad?”
“Only if you mind being a
cur. I was treated worse than the average dog.”
“Physically?”
“Beaten, but not
raped.”
“That’s unusual. I wonder
why?” Marissa speculated.
“Our pack alpha told them
not to. My father was his brother. Even the awfullest male usually
leaves females alone until they are eighteen. But I matured fast
and some of the males were watching me.”
“You think that’s why he
made you leave?” Damon asked.
“If he cared enough to
worry about that, would he have made me leave with nothing? The
odds of survival aren’t that good. Did he think better dead than
molested? I doubt that.”
“I see your point. Are you
sure your mom is dead?” Damon asked softly.
“What do you
mean?”
“You don’t know anything
about her death. Usually, people will say how a parent died when
they tell their child that they did.”
“These people rarely told
me anything. Most of what I know I heard from others talking. They
probably meant me to hear it. Some of the pack were hateful
people.” Bindi admitted.
“You think your dad would
kill your mom?” Marissa asked.
“No, but the alpha
would.”
“Did he resent human blood
mixing in with his bloodline?”
“I believe he did.” Bindi
admitted.
“Why didn’t he give you to
the human authorities?”
“Your guess is as good as
mine.”
“Okay. We’ll have to track
him down and ask him.” Damon decided.
