CHAPTER 47
*PRESENT*
“The End”
Maya
It was a sunny day. I woke up late, but my husband was still asleep. I guess I’m to blame for keeping him awake all night. I smiled to myself.
I made pancakes using my mom’s recipe. I filled a plate with them for my husband and took them home with his favorite juice and a side of fresh fruit.
I ate a strawberry on the way to our room.
My husband was sleeping on his back, his mouth partly opened, and his hair was messy.
I raised an eyebrow.
I lay next to him, putting the tray on my nightstand.
“Aaron, my dear husband, it’s time to wake up.”
I caressed his cheek, and he mumbled in his sleep.
I contemplated him.
He moved and opened his eyes just a little.
“Good morning, my love,”
he said with a soft smile.
“I made pancakes,”
I said, moving the hair from his eyes.
“They smell delicious.”
Aaron’s phone started to sound, and he searched for it, still too tired for whoever it was.
“Hello,”
he said with a raspy voice that made me remember last night.
I could feel my cheeks redden.
“Wait, what?”
he said immediately. “No, sorry, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
He frowned. “What magazine?”
He looked my way, a puzzled expression.
I grabbed my phone and found that the group message that we had with our family had more than two hundred unread messages.
I panicked.
I started to read one by one, as fast as possible, trying to get to the point of this madness.
“My love,”
said Aaron softly, removing my phone from my hands. I looked at him. His eyes were sparkling. “Nothing to worry. A magazine says that Cassie is dating the pop star that we met in Málaga.”
I sighed loudly.
“Who called you to tell you that?”
“Someone from work, they want her signature,”
he laughed.
I shook my head, my arms crossed.
“Wait! That means I won the bet.”
I said, grinning.
My husband grabbed my hands and pushed me softly to our bed, his pupils darkening.
“What was your prize, my love?”
