Chapter 10 Her Chosen Disguise

Her blindness was something I had never exposed.

It was a carefully woven disguise.

A soft yet sturdy armor.

I preferred to see everything clearly for her in the dark rather than ruin the appearance she had chosen for this world.

After all, everyone had their own secrets.

And I chose to be her most silent audience.

My Girlfriend had always been a light sleeper. The slight dip in the mattress had barely registered before she turned and slipped into my arms.

"Are you done with work?" Her voice carried the laziness of someone who had just woken.

"Yeah, I'm done. Did I wake you?"

"Yes. How are you going to make it up to me?"

"I'll cook your favorite breakfast tomorrow morning."

"Okay, but right now I want you to tell me a story."

"What story?"

"The story of your overtime work tonight."

My Girlfriend's tone held a trace of teasing, yet it felt like a probe.

I gave a soft laugh and patted her shoulder.

"The story is too long. I'll tell you another time."

"Then you must remember to make it up later."

"Okay."

I switched off the bedside night light.

A chill rose in my chest.

Some stories should never be finished.
