Chapter 13 #5

I grab my bag and toss it over my shoulder. After smirking at him, I pick up the room key and head to the door. He follows me out, and I drop it into the drop-off box, dip my chin to the member of staff behind the counter and walk out to my car. “I’ll see you around, yeah.”

He nods but stands there, as if he’s waiting to swap numbers or something. I slide into the driver’s seat, give him a grin and pull out of the car park, leaving him standing there while I head home for a shower and a bacon sandwich. I’m starving.

When I pull up to the gate at home, it’s already open. I stare at the steps as Scott climbs to my flat. His gaze turns to meet mine. I park up and click the button to close the gate while he waits for me.

As I climb out the door, his face scowls, and a look of disgust settles across his features.

“If the wind changes, your face will stay like that, Nerd.”

“Get stuffed, Killian. Where the hell have you been?” He crosses his arms over his chest and stares down at me.

I snatch my bag from the car and head towards him. When I reach him, I wrap my arm around his neck, pulling him into me, dropping my bag and scrubbing my knuckles into his hair.

“When did you become my mother, huh?” I laugh out at him, and he struggles in my grip.

“Get off me, eww gross, you stink. What the fuck is that?” He pushes at me, trying to get me away from him.

I grip tighter. “Sniff it, go on, take a massive whiff. That smell, it’s the smell of success and sex.”

“Eww, get off me, Killian.” He stumbles, and I laugh at him as I let go. “You’re gross.” As I unlock the door, he pushes inside.

I reach down and pick up my bag. “Throw some bacon on, Nerd, while I have a shower.” I stalk through my flat and head straight to my bedroom, leaving Scott in the kitchen.

He’ll protest, but he will also cook for me.

So, I throw my stuff in the hamper, grab some clean clothes, and head into the bathroom.

I stare at myself in the mirror while the water heats up, seeing what I need to come up with: excuses for why I have bruises or cuts from the fight. I don’t want Scott knowing what I do.

He’s my best friend’s little brother. He’s like my token little brother.

It would break my heart if he knew what I was actually capable of.

I only ever want him to look at me like he does now.

Like I hung the moon for him. Like I’m his protector.

It would fucking break me if he knew I fought for money.

I shake that thought away and step into the shower.

I scrub myself quickly, making sure I clean every inch before climbing out. After roughly drying myself, I throw on some sweats and a T-shirt and head into the kitchen.

The smell of bacon wafts around the flat.

And I step up behind Scott, wrapping my arms around him and resting my chin against his shoulder.

He squirms in my grasp like he always does.

But I lean over and pluck a slice of bacon from the pan.

He tries to slap my hand away, but I turn, laugh, and dance away from him.

He glares over his shoulder, wielding the spatula.

I just toss him a wink and head to the fridge, grabbing the orange juice, stuffing the bacon in my mouth and grabbing two glasses out of the cupboard, taking a seat at the table.

I pour us both a glass, put the lid back on the carton and shove it to the side.

Scott makes his way around the kitchen, grabbing plates and brown sauce, pulling the bread from the cupboard before making the sandwiches.

I stare at him. I like having him here. I’ve missed him since we left Mum’s and he moved back in with his brother. While I see him most days, it’s not the same as living in the same house.

“What you looking at me like that for?” He frowns.

“Just wondering what’s taking so long? Wondering whether you’re shaving the fucking pig yourself or if we’ll be able to eat sometime today?” I grin at him, and he rolls his eyes at me, brings over my sandwich, and drops it on the table in front of me before sitting opposite me.

I stare at him, wrapping my hands around the sandwich and bringing it to my mouth.

I groan as it passes my lips and presses against my tongue.

He shakes his head at me, and I sink my teeth into it again, chewing and groaning around it.

I haven’t eaten since way before the fight, and I used a lot of energy with the fight and my extracurriculars.

I scoff my sandwich, then stare at Scott’s. “You gonna eat that?” I mumble before snatching it off his plate and stuffing it into my mouth.

“Hey!” he shouts, but doesn’t grab the sandwich back

“If you’re not fast, you’re last, Nerd.” I laugh at him and pop the remainder of his sandwich into my mouth before standing and taking the plates to the sink. I finish swallowing and head back to the table, gulping the juice down before flopping into the chair. “So to what do I owe this pleasure?”

“Just thought I’d stop by, wondered what you were doing and if you wanted to have a movie marathon or something.”

I smile at him. I know Steven doesn’t really do anything with him, since their parents died. I miss him now we’re no longer under the same roof.
