Chapter 3 The Breakup
Gu Qu Nian stood at the door. He seemed to have made up his mind. He looked at me calmly and said: "I regret it."
"Liao Xing, we're done."
"Why?"
We had been together so long. I was always the one compromising. How dare he dump me?
"That girl just now—she's the dean's daughter. I like her. She's smart, outstanding, generous, sensible, and comes from a good family. Unlike you..."
"We never have anything in common. Your family background is already bad, and all you do is play around. I'm really fed up with you."
"And during this time together, I realized something. I'm not some disgusting gay at all."
"At least not for you."
I could accept every other reason—except that one.
It made me look like a complete joke.
It was clearly Gu Qu Nian who chased me first.
I suddenly remembered when I impulsively went to pick him up from school and saw him patiently explaining problems to a girl.
That girl seemed to be Li Yu Qiu.
No wonder Gu Qu Nian was especially gentle and patient with her—more than he ever was with me, his actual boyfriend.
I completely collapsed. I couldn't hold back my hysterics. "You don't like me, so why did you get together with me back then?!"
Why drag me into this, make me fall for you, and then do something so cruel?
Gu Qu Nian's gaze was cold. He gave me a disgusted glance.
"I was just pissed off and my heart hurt that time. I mistook it for feelings and chased you."
"Also, you actually look pretty ugly when you cry."
No wonder in all this time together, Gu Qu Nian never took the initiative to kiss me.
Whenever I tried to get close, he would push me away, saying he wasn't used to it.
I endured it, thinking one day he would accept me and slowly get used to it.
So from the very beginning, he never liked me.
I held back the pain and punched him hard. "Gu Qu Nian, you will regret this."
In my senior year of high school, I transferred to Gu Qu Nian's class.
He was the model student and class monitor, while I was the troublemaker—didn't study, loved fighting and sleeping, always dragging the class down.
After graduation, he was the one who started pursuing me.
My parents had always left me to fend for myself. They didn't care about me. Their eyes were only on their business and their little son.
On my eighteenth Birthday, I waited at home all night, hoping they would come back to celebrate with me just once.
All I got was a transfer and a message: "Xing Xing, Mom and Dad won't be back this year. Buy whatever you want. If the money isn't enough, tell us."
They were always like that.
Leaving me alone at home, seeing me only once or twice a year.
But their youngest son was always by their side.
"He's still little and can't leave Mom and Dad. Xing Xing, you're grown up now. Be sensible. As the big brother, you have to give in to your little brother."
Gu Qu Nian saw my Birthday on the class information sheet and specially made me a cake himself.
I was touched. All the emotions I had held back for so long burst out, and I cried in front of him.
He panicked and comforted me clumsily. "Liao Xing, if you want, I can spend every Birthday with you from now on."
"Don't be sad. I'm here."
That was why I accepted his pursuit.
We didn't get into the same university.
He went to a top 985 school. I could only attend a second-tier college next to his.
My family originally wanted me to study abroad, but I was so lovesick back then that I refused—didn't want long-distance.
I never expected that in just two short years, he would get tired of me.
And I was stupid enough to actually fall for him.
