Chapter 8 Spicy Food and Double Standards
After packing up, Fu Jiye drove me out for dinner.
He picked a Sichuan restaurant.
I love spicy food, and I didn’t expect him to still remember that.
I silently gave Fu Jiye a few more points in my heart.
His mouth might be sharp, but his heart wasn’t that dark.
^v^
When the dishes arrived, I noticed all the food in front of Fu Jiye was non-spicy.
Everything in front of me was exactly what I loved—spicy.
I tapped his bowl.
“You can’t handle spice?”
Fu Jiye looked up at me. “I can manage a little.”
“Then why come to a Sichuan place? We could’ve gone somewhere else.”
“As long as you like it, I’m fine with anything.”
Damn it—what the hell was this feeling?
Still, this move got to me.
Back when I ate with Gu Qunian, I always accommodated him. I hadn’t had real spicy food in ages, and I missed it.
And now, the guy who just came back from abroad was the one making it happen for me.
“Fine. If you used half this effort on chasing a girlfriend, you’d have gotten laid ages ago.”
Fu Jiye suddenly stared straight at me. “How about chasing you? Would that work?”
Right then, a voice came from behind me.
“Liao Xing?”
I turned around and saw a very familiar face.
I never thought I’d run into Gu Qunian—who can’t stand even a drop of spice—in a Sichuan restaurant.
This place wasn’t cheap. Why would he come here?
Then I saw the person sitting across from him: Li Yuqiu.
That explained everything.
I let out a cold laugh.
“Son of a bitch. Hypocritical double-standard dog!”
He was willing to spend on her, but with me he was stingy as hell.
Gu Qunian frowned. “Are you cursing me?”
He quickly put on that cold face again.
“Liao Xing, I know I forgot your birthday last night. That was my fault. But we’ve already broken up. There’s no need to follow me here, right?”
“Actually, Li Yuqiu was just an excuse. I was simply tired of you.”
I snorted. “Gu Qunian, don’t flatter yourself. You think I can’t live without you? It was just playing around. Anyone can do that.”
I turned and grabbed Fu Jiye’s hand.
I raised it high, shaking it right in front of Gu Qunian’s face.
“And sorry to disappoint you, but I already have a new one. A hundred times better than you.”
Fu Jiye was dressed in designer clothes, tall, great figure.
I had to admit—he looked like royalty next to me.
Next to him, I looked like a total delinquent.
Gu Qunian’s expression darkened as he looked at me, then at Fu Jiye who was playing along.
He shook his head slightly.
“Liao Xing, stop messing around, okay? We’re adults. This kind of behavior is childish.”
“I calmed down last night too. If you can change that temper of yours, I might reluctantly forgive you.”
“I haven’t even thrown out your stuff at home yet.”
Me: ???
“Gu Qunian, how did I never notice before—you’re this shameless?”
Gu Qunian adjusted his glasses and spoke coldly. “I know him. Fu Jiye, the young master of the Fu family who just returned. Excellent grades, countless awards.”
“Do you really think he’d be interested in you?”
Fu Jiye’s reputation was well-known. He was the school heartthrob of the previous year.
Even after going abroad, plenty of people still idolized him.
Gu Qunian, the ever-studious one, was no exception.
