Talon

I’m anxious. I want to know how things went with Cody. I need to make sure he didn’t put his hands on her.

She texted the group, telling us that he was gone and that Griffin was checking to make sure the route we planned was clear. That was an hour ago, and I’m starting to jitter, internally, of course.

The automatic locks disengage, and Griffin steps in with Cin on his heels. She looks a little scared, which we expected. She hasn’t been out of the house since I took her into town last week.

Cin walks to me, and I raise my hands to cup her cheeks, “how are you feeling?”

“Like an asshole,” she replies, and I laugh.

“Welcome to the club, Spice.”

She smacks my chest, and I plant a kiss on her temple where the cut Gran stitched is scabbed over and will most likely scar. Her eyes close, and she folds her body into mine, seeking comfort. It lights my insides on fire to know she’s finding it with me.

Griffin excuses himself. His room is at the entrance to the dorms, so I assume that’s where he’ll be headed.

“We tried to make sure everything was the same, or close to it,” I speak into her hair, “how did it go with lover boy?”

She groans, “don’t call him that, please.”

Placing my hands on her shoulders, I push her back gently so I can look at her. I know this can’t be easy for her, but I hoped my being here would make it an easier pill to swallow.

“If you need me to move anything around, let me know,” I tell her, letting my hands fall away and turning to the door that used to separate Toby and me from Henry and Banks.

“Where are you going?” She asks, not at all concerned with the room.

“I’m just going next door so you can get settled,” I give her a questioning look because a separate room is what she wanted.

“Right,” she nods, and I refuse to snuff my smirk because the girl who’s said she doesn’t forgive me just might be craving me as much as I crave her.

“Would you like to ask me for something, Spice?”

She rolls her eyes and places her hands on her hips, “nope,” she pops the ‘p’ like bubble gum, and I stalk to where she stands. It’s really just a stride, and I’m right in her space.

“Liar,” I purr into her ear.

“I don’t need anything from you, Fish Boy.”

“Lie again, baby,” I rumble, “so I can take it out on your ass.”

She inhales a sharp breath, but it’s laced with a moan as she exhales, “you wouldn’t,” she trembles.

I chuckle, “there isn’t much I wouldn’t do when it comes to you.”

Her pupils are wide, stance relaxed. She loves this, our back-and-forth, but only behind closed doors. That’s fine, I don’t mind it right now, plus I know I need to earn her trust. For us to be an us , she has to trust me.

“Get some sleep, Spice,” I gently tap her chin with my knuckle, “I’ll see you in the morning.”

Walking through the adjoining door is one of the most selfless things I’ve ever done, especially because I’ve gotten used to sleeping with her. Wrapping her up in my arms and sleeping. No wandering hands, not since the one and only time I felt her cum on my fingers.

I’ve replayed that over and over too many times to count in the shower where I can pretend it’s not my fingers bringing her pleasure. But my cock sinking deep into her virgin cunt. I have to remind myself that I won’t be doing that any time soon. She’s not ready, and God knows I don’t know how to be gentle.

“How’s she settling in?’ Henry asks.

“She’s scared, but I think she’ll be okay once classes start back up,” I tell him, clapping him on the back as I pass him on my way to the bathroom. A shower is just what I need to cool the fuck down. I don’t take too much time, so I can get in bed and listen through the wall to make sure she’s okay.

My bed is the first one beside the door. I almost had to fight Banks for it, and I would have won. I want to be there if she makes any noise.

Towel-drying my hair and throwing on some shorts after my shower, I pull the door open and find Toby smirking at me.

“Got somewhere to be?” He asks, a smug grin taking over his face.

“Don’t you?” I counter, knowing good and damn well he’s usually knuckles deep in Gemma right now.

“Rain check,” he winks, “I wanted to be here for Cin.”

“I’m here for her,” I snarl at him, and he laughs.

I can’t get comfortable in bed, knowing she’s over there and she’s being quieter than a church mouse. I can’t hear a damn thing, and that makes me want to barge in just to check on her.

But I won’t unless she calls for me or makes a noise I don’t like.

Sleep evades me, and I can’t fall asleep knowing she’s so close. My thoughts start to drift, and my eyes are just closing when I hear the door creak open. Cin quietly tiptoes into the room. I’m watching her through my squinting eyes, and she looks around the beds before lifting my covers and slowly sliding in.

“Did you miss me, Spice?”

She freezes at my words, turning to look over her shoulder, “I couldn’t sleep in my bed.”

“So you figured you’d give mine a try?” I tease.

“Okay, I missed you,” she admits, and I wrap my arms around her, pulling her into my body and tossing my legs over hers.

“Damn right, you did.”
