19. King

My world stopped turning when Ace called me yesterday. Someone deliberately ran Sparrow and the kids off the road, and even though Sparrow thinks it’s random, I’m not so sure. She fled to Michigan because her ex was out of jail, and she thought he had found her. I’m not taking any chances with my family, so I’m going to have my work cut out for me to get Sparrow to agree to live here.

I’ll do whatever I need to.

Stretching in her sleep, the T-shirt she wore to bed rises up, revealing more of her milky skin. When we got back yesterday, the whole family lay around watching movies. The kids seemed like they were fine, but I didn’t miss Loch holding her brother’s hand all night. So, anything they asked for, they got.

For my kids, I’m a pushover. They could ask for anything, and I would give it to them.

Slowly pulling the comforter fully off of Sparrow, I move her legs apart, and get into position. It would be an honor to worship her like this every morning.

My go to breakfast choice.

Sparrow shifts, not fully awake, with the first swipe of my tongue. After a few more swipes, I look up and find her staring at me with hunger in her eyes. Pulling back, I plunge two fingers inside her. “Morning, Bird.”

“King, don’t tease me,” she says as she rocks her hips.

Wanting to do exactly what my woman wants, I ask, “Do you want my tongue, or my dick, Bird?”

Sparrow looks up at me, a small smirk on her face. “Hmm…that’s a hard decision. Please fuck me, King.”

Quickly standing up, I kick off my shorts before climbing back into bed. “Your wish is my command, Bird.”

Not knowing how much time we have before the kids wake up, I enter Sparrow in a quick thrust, making her scream out.

“Harder, King!” Sparrow screams out, surprising me. I’ll admit, I have been keeping things more on the gentle side, not wanting to do anything she doesn’t like.

The heels of Sparrow’s feet are digging into my ass, spurring me on. I feel Sparrow tighten around me. “Are you going to come for me, Bird?”

“Yes! King, don’t stop!” Sparrow screams as she comes.

Not able to last any longer, I come a minute later. Falling down next to Sparrow, she nuzzles into my side. There’s no better feeling than having her next to me, but the kids should be up, and I still don’t trust that Ace isn’t sneaking half naked women into the house.

“I’m going to go check on the kids, give you time to get ready. If I don’t walk away, we’re going in for another round,” I tell her before kissing her.

“Hmm…kay,” Sparrow murmurs before closing her eyes and pulling the blankets back up.

Laughing, I leave my room, noticing that the kids’ doors are already open. How early do these kids wake up? Hearing voices coming from the kitchen, I slow my pace down.

“I think if you apologize, it will be okay, Uncle Ace,” Loch states sweetly. I roll my eyes because it’s going to take more than an apology for him to get in my good graces before. Ace is fully in adulthood; it’s time for him to start acting like it.

“I don’t think it’s going to be that easy, Lo.”

“Were those girls your girlfriends? Do you have more than one girlfriend? I didn’t think you could have more than one,” Telle word vomits.

And that’s my cue to get in there and end this round of questioning.

“Morning, guys,” I tell them after giving both of them a kiss on the head. Ace sets a plate of eggs and bacon down in front of them and leaves the kitchen. He and I have barely spoken since the blow up, but at least his bruise is fading.

“I don’t get it. Can you have more than one girlfriend?” Telle asks as he shovels a bite of eggs into his mouth.

Shaking my hanging head, I take a deep breath before responding. “No, son. You don’t have more than one girlfriend or boyfriend at a time.”

Thankfully, Telle drops the subject and continues to eat his breakfast. My dad surprises me when he walks in. He comes in, pours a cup of coffee, sits down, all without saying anything.

“What’s going on, Dad?”

“Later, Son.” Which is my dad’s way of saying that it’s something that he doesn’t want the kids to hear. He has fully embraced ‘Grandpa life’. He has rooms for them at his house, bought them bikes, dirt bikes…he’s bought them too much.

“So, what’s up?” My dad and I are outside while Loch went to the shop with River, Telle went to the store with Cam, and Sparrow and Skye are inside talking. We decided to have a cookout tonight since everyone is off.

“I went to the auto body shop because Reed had Sparrow’s car up on the lift. For one thing, that car is a deathtrap. There’s a little bit of blue paint on the back bumper, but there’s no way to find out who did this.” He pauses as he looks around. “I have a bad feeling about this, Kingston.”

Yeah, so do I.

“I don’t think it was a random person. Yeah, there are a few assholes up here, but not anyone that would do that,” my dad continues. “You need to keep Sparrow and the kids here.”

“I know, Pop.” I completely agree, I just hope Sparrow doesn’t fight me on it.

Why does this feel like when I was eighteen and kept getting in trouble? Those were dark days, days that I’m not proud of.

“I have one son that became a dad overnight, one that doesn’t want to grow up, and another that hates everyone. You boys sure are keeping me on my toes,” Dad grumbles.

“Yeah, well, if you could give your middle son a swift kick in the ass, that would be great. Telle asked him if those women were his girlfriend, and if it was okay to have more than one.” If it was any other kid, that would be funny, but since it’s my kid, I don’t find it funny.

My dad pulls out a cigarette, turning towards me before lighting it. “He pulls that shit again, and he’s going to have a problem with me. I thought the years of disciplining you three were over, but apparently, I was wrong.”

Taking a few steps back from my dad, I look towards the house. I haven’t had a cigarette since Sparrow and the kids moved here, and I’m not going to lie, I could go for a pack right about now.

“Sorry, Son,” my dad tosses his cigarette, “I guess it’s time to quit now that there’s kids in the family.” My dad quitting smoking is laughable; he started before he could even legally drive, but I have noticed that I haven’t had to ask him not to smoke in front of the kids.

Once the kids get back, my dad starts up the grill. Ace graces us with his presence, but he only talks to the kids. It looks like I’m going to have to have another heart to heart with him. I thought we were past the stage of our lives that I had to tell him that it was okay to let his real emotions out.

Watching as Ace kicks the soccer ball back and forth with Telle, I try to push my issues with my brother from my mind. I know he has his struggles, but who doesn't? Everyone I know has some sort of trauma they are trying to work through, and no one else acts like Ace.

When the food is done, Ace surprises me when he makes Loch's plate and sits down next to her. Looking around at my family, a small amount of peace finds me, knowing that at this current moment, everyone is happy. Sitting around this table, they are safe.

The years that darkness consumed me are over.
