Chapter Twenty-Three
Kytten
The next morning, I made the call to Sypher.
“Kytten?”
“Hey, Sypher, I need to meet with you. Can you tell me where you’re staying?” I heard rustling on the other end and wondered if I had woken him.
“I’m in Nebraska.”
“I know, Diamond Creek. So am I. I’ve been here for weeks.”
“Why?”
Didn’t he know Val had me watching his daughter? How angry would he be when he found out?
“I can explain everything once I see you. I don’t want to talk about it over the phone.”
“I’m sending you a pin. It’s the easiest way to find me. I am literally in the middle of fucking nowhere.”
I heard the beep and when I looked at the map, my eyes widened. “Are there roads to get me there?”
“Yea,” Sypher chuckled. “Just stop at the main house and someone can give you directions. I’ll let them know you are coming. Your hair still pink?”
“Yea,” I said absently as I packed my things.
“Alright, I’ll see you when you get here.” Before he hung up, he asked, “Is this something Dante can be a part of?”
I straightened from the bed and thought about his question. “I’m not sure. I can text Val and ask her.”
“No, I’ll send him out with Danika.”
I finished packing my meager belongings and headed out to my Harley. Traveling on a bike meant you had to pack light. There was only so much space in the saddlebags. Thankfully, I was a simple girl. A few pairs of jeans, a few tops, and I was good to go.
I had never really been super girly. Not on the outside anyway. What the Nyght Nymphs did was difficult to do in a dress or a skirt. But underneath. Yea, that was where I spent my money.
Bras and panties made me feel like a woman. It was hard sometimes being so small and petite. Often being mistaken for a little girl depending on how I dressed. It came in handy, but it also had its drawbacks.
It was why Val hadn’t wanted me getting involved. The things she had seen, the depravity of men and women, had her concerned for my safety. Afraid that I would be taken the way she was, only she believed it would be worse for me.
She never held back when it came to the things she saw and experienced, and she knew that despite my age, men would always want me to feed their sick fetishes.
But she taught me how to protect myself. And I used my size to my advantage. That meant people often underestimated what I was capable of.
Men like the pricks outside the hotel.
“Hey, little girl. That looks like a lot of fucking power to have between your legs. Come ride me first. I can teach how to handle some fucking steel,” he said, his hand holding his junk as he thrust his hips forward.
I think it was meant to be sexy.
Boy, did he miss the mark on that one.
“No thanks.”
The man laughed and turned to his friend. “She thinks that was a fucking offer.” He walked toward me as I stuffed my shit in the bike and climbed on. “It was a fucking order, little girl. Get off the damn bike and get on my cock.”
I started the bike and waited until he got close. It didn’t matter what side he walked up to; Val had spent months teaching me to be as good with my right hand as I was with my left.
I had pulled a blade from the saddlebag. Different from the one that belonged to Thorne. I wouldn’t tarnish his blade with this asshole’s blood.
No, only your own.
Not the fucking time, bitch.
When he reached for me, I flicked the blade open and stuck it against his dick. Either he wasn’t hard, or he was fucking tiny. ’Cause I couldn’t feel anything, not like I could feel Cash when I had done this same thing to him.
Not the time to think about him.
“I said, no thanks. I was trying to be fucking polite. But if you need me to be more direct,” I said as I pushed it further against his limp dick. “Not a fucking chance in hell, asshole.”
His eyes rounded like saucers before he narrowed them in anger and called out loud enough for the other man to hear him, “Bitch, I wouldn’t fuck you with my brother’s dick. I don’t fuck children.”
Yea, buddy, sure you don’t.
“Back up slowly and no one will know you almost had your dick cut off by a ‘ little girl’ .”
“This isn’t over, cunt,” he sneered as he backed away.
I walked the bike backwards out of the spot, never taking my eyes off the two bastards, and cursed the monsters because I didn’t back it in last night. I was too focused on calling Val and then feeding them.
If I had just slowed down and thought clearly, I would have backed in and been gone before he got near me. It didn’t matter now because I wouldn’t be coming back here.
I followed the GPS to the ranch Sypher was staying at. When I pulled in, a real live cowboy met me at the gate.
“Holy shit,” I whispered.
The man laughed, and I shivered as the sound washed over me.
“Hello, I’m Grayson Powell. You must be Kytten?”
I nodded, still in awe of this man standing before me. He was goddamn hot. From his cowboy boots and wrangler jeans to the Stetson hat on his head. Talk about a tall drink of water.
But as good looking as he was... he wasn’t Cash.
“One of my guys will show you how to get to the cabin.”
When I saw another freaking cowboy walking over with a horse, I tried to swallow my fear. “Can I take my bike?” I asked, my eyes never leaving the giant beast.
“Of course, just don’t follow too closely or the horse might spook,” Grayson said.
“The horse might spook?”
Grayson chuckled and introduced me to Hank, his foreman. I followed behind him slowly until the land opened up, and Hank and the horse sped up into a gallop.
Horses were beautiful to watch. But they scared the shit out of me. They were huge with a normal size person standing next to them, but my four-foot-ten-inch body could probably stand directly under its belly.
No, thank you!
When the cabins came into view, Sypher was sitting on the porch steps waiting for me.
“Is Dante here?” I asked as I got closer.
“No, he took Danika over to the clubhouse.”
“I’m surprised you let her go over there. You know that woman let’s Dani call her mom, right?”
“She is Danika’s mother,” Sypher stated. He turned and walked into the house, and I stared after him. Val had given me a little information about how Dani came to be. From what she said, Dante didn’t know Dani’s mom.
Jane had kidnapped Dante when he was in college, forcing him to be with a woman he didn’t know. Dante and Sypher had only learned about Dani a few months back. It was why Val asked me to watch over them.
“So, what are you doing here, Kytten?” Sypher asked as he went to the counter in the kitchen to make coffee.
“I followed Dr. Jefferson here.”
Sypher swung around and glared at me. “Why?”
“Val called from New York back in December and asked me to go to Oklahoma City and watch over her granddaughter.” I shrugged.
His shoulders dropped. “Ok, that makes sense. I should have known Val would send someone. Why are you still here? Dante and I are here. Jane is dead and our daughter is safe. So is Amber.”
“Honestly, I don’t know why I’m here. But Val asked me to stay and keep an eye on Amber until she can be here.” I looked round the cabin and thought about how nice it was. A little rustic, but it was so quiet. “Also, Irene is here.”
“She is. When I put Irene here, I had no idea Amber was here. This wasn’t where I put Amber.” He handed me a cup of coffee and we sat at the small table.
“Then why is she here?”
“It’s a long story that I won’t go into right now. What did you need me for?”
“The Death Dogs are in Diamond Creek.”
Sypher set his cup down and grabbed his computer. “What do you mean, they’re here?”
“There are about a dozen of them staying at the motel. I saw them last night when I got back and then had an altercation with one this morning.”
His eyes snapped to mine as I took a sip of the hot liquid. “Define altercation.”
I shrugged one shoulder. “He propositioned me, and I threatened to cut his tiny dick off.”
“Kytten,” Sypher groaned.
“What the fuck was I supposed to do? Let him rape me?”
Sypher rubbed his hands over his face. “My guess would be you’re supposed to lie low and not draw attention to yourself.” Yea, well, that was unlikely. Especially when it came to Cash.
“Well, they were outside when I left my room. Also...”
When I bit my lip, he asked, “What?”
“I got pulled over for speeding last night.”
“Jesus Christ, Kytten.”
“It’s not a big deal. I’ll stop at the station and pay the fine.”
“It is a big deal if the sheriff runs a background check. And knowing what I know about him; you can be sure he will run a damn check.” His fingers swept over the keyboard as he searched for information. “Shit.”
“What?” I asked as I got up and moved around the table to look over his shoulder.
“They left Flagstaff.”
“What do you mean, left?” I asked.
“I mean they moved the whole damn club to Hillsdale, Wyoming.”
“Why would they do that?”
“Probably looking for Irene,” he said absently as he clicked the keys in front of him.
“Why would the whole club up and move for one old lady? Pepper isn’t even an officer. I mean, yea, her dad is the former president of the God’s of Mayhem, and her brother is the president now. But just marrying her would seal the alliance. Do you think Zeus knows what happened to her?”
“Oh, he knows. I made sure of it. I just didn’t tell him where she went.”
“Ok, but even if they are trying to save their asses, getting her back won’t ensure that Zeus doesn’t retaliate. And why not just send Pepper and a few guys? Why move the whole club?”
“If I had to guess, Irene wasn’t entirely truthful with us. I think this may have been about more than just a battered wife.”
“Sypher, how did they find her?” I asked, not wanting to ask the question burning in my gut.
“I don’t know. None of our clients have ever been found before.”
“Amber was found.”
“No, she wasn’t. Amber was safe in Chicago, but she left. No one here knew who she was until I told them.”
He clicked a few more keys and cursed, “Fuck.”
“What is it?”
“I need to talk to someone. Why don’t you follow me to the clubhouse? You can’t stay at the motel, not with the Death Dogs hanging around,” he said, packing up his laptop.
“I’m not going to the clubhouse.”
“Why?” He stopped to look at me, and I had to think of something quick.
“I’m supposed to be lying low remember?”
He nodded, and I breathed a sigh of relief. “I’ll talk to Grayson and see if you can stay at one of the cabins. Stay here for now.”
“No, I can go into town. The Death Dogs won’t venture out there because it’s too small. They are trying not to be seen, I’m sure.”
“I’m sure King knows they’re close.”
We walked outside and got on our bikes. “Call me when you’re headed back and I’ll make sure we’re here. And I’ll talk to Grayson.”
I followed Sypher back to the main house and out onto the road. We rode in tandem until the road split and he went toward the clubhouse, while I made my way to town.
I had skipped breakfast to meet with Sypher. If I was lucky, Trudy held back a bear claw for me.
