Chapter 18 Shredded Ginger
Sheng Yi took two steps back, shock all over his face.
“So all this time… you really only saw me as your Creditor.”
He gave a self-mocking laugh.
His gaze swept over the dishes on the table.
“And this—what, a meal to keep your Creditor happy?”
I lowered my head deeply. “I… I didn’t expect you to misunderstand…”
It wasn’t entirely my fault.
Both interpretations made sense.
Who would have thought we could talk past each other for months without a single crack showing?
Sheng Yi clenched his jaw and raised his phone.
“Then these transfer records—are you paying me back?”
What else would they be?
I glanced over quietly and didn’t dare speak.
Sheng Yi lifted me off the table without ceremony.
“Creditor, huh? Fine. Wait here.”
He took off his jacket and went into the kitchen.
After a lot of clattering, he came back carrying a plate and set it in front of me.
“Eat this.”
What was this?
I stared at the plate of shredded something and went blank.
“Shredded ginger stir-fried with potato shreds. Change your face and see what happens.”
He gave a cold huff, sat across from me, and just stared without touching his own food.
He was being mean again.
I looked at my four dishes and soup. My chopsticks hovered over the shredded ginger for a long time.
Finally, I asked reluctantly, “Sheng Yi… is there a lot of ginger in this?”
Sheng Yi raised a brow. “Does wife cake have wife in it?”
Huh?
“So… there’s no ginger in shredded ginger stir-fried potato shreds?”
He met my hopeful eyes with clear, sincere ones.
“No. There are no potatoes.”
No potatoes…
No potatoes?!
Sheng Yi, I always knew you were black-hearted.
I held my chopsticks but couldn’t bring myself to eat.
Instead, Sheng Yi snatched them from me and ate the entire plate of shredded ginger in a few bites.
He couldn’t handle spice well—let alone a whole plate of raw ginger.
I hurried to stop him. “Don’t eat it!”
He brushed my hand away and grabbed an iced drink from the fridge.
I panicked. “Drinking cold stuff like that will upset your stomach.”
He paused, then showed me the empty can.
“Colder than your heart?”
I pressed my lips together and didn’t answer.
He stood there looking at me for a long time.
Finally, he picked up his jacket.
“Get some rest.”
The door closed softly behind him.
I stared at the food on the table and stood there in a daze for ages.
It felt like… I had hurt Sheng Yi.
But every time I remembered what my senior had said, I fell back into deep confusion.
How do you even define “worthy” and “not worthy”?
After he left, I went out too.
To find my roommate.
