Chapter 14 Possession Sprites
Over the next week we are able to examine the sprites.
Archer is more than happy to help and grabs every book he has on the subject.
I, with the help of Agnes and Hera, am able to determine that these Sprites are Rage Wisps.
They are an aggressive possession sprite that drives its host into a state of blind, destructive fury, especially if the original sprite still lives and its obsession presents itself.
These entities do not spawn naturally. They are born when a creature dies harboring an overwhelming, unresolved resentment to something or someone else.
We are thinking that when Marcus’ father passed away he manifested the sprite.
He had a very strong hatred for the lycan race and since I was Marcus’ target we think that is what caused it.
It latched onto Marcus because he had a moment of extreme vulnerability, when his father died and he experienced intense sorrow.
He wouldn’t have known of its presence until the sprite took over, which in this case seemed to happen once they found out I was going to be born.
Most beings can’t see sprites, which is why they can be such a problem.
Once it decides to make its presence known, it feeds exclusively on the host's adrenaline and cortisol, amplifying these baseline emotions until the host perceives every minor annoyance as a mortal threat.
His pupils would have dilated, and had a frequent faint flashing of a blood red hue.
Hosts experience an explosive loss of impulse control, often lashing out physically or verbally over trivial matters.
Voices become a constant, whispering chorus of paranoia, convincing them that everyone around them is mocking, betraying, or plotting against them.
The sprite's ultimate weapon is its ability to spread its rage.
By projecting a psychic miasma, hosts can incite entire groups of peoples into localized riots or bloody brawls.
It seems like this one only spread to Marcella and Zion, thank the Goddess.
The only way to remove them is to offer a sincere, calming confession or apology meant to soothe the original grudge that created the sprite, causing it to dissipate into harmless ash.
All other wisps created by the original will dissipate as well.
