Chapter 66 Kashton
SIXTY-SIX
KASHTON
Eve lies in my bed while Gavin gives her an IV. I called him after I was done playing with her in the basement. She needs more fluids, and since we left Carnage, Devin can’t tend to her.
My cell rings and I look to see its Haidyn. I consider pressing Ignore. He knows I’m with his sister and the current state that she’s in. But since she’s preoccupied with Gavin, I answer. “Yeah?”
“I’ll make this quick,” he says in greeting. “I was speaking to Charlotte, and she mentioned something.”
“What is it?” I ask when he doesn’t elaborate.
“She thinks this topical was used at her mother’s spa.”
I walk into the living room and start to pace. “The spa?”
“Yeah. Charlotte was getting hydration IVs and massages there regularly. After she brought it to my attention, I took her down to the basement and was able to identify him. Maxwell worked there. Was an employee of Isabella’s.”
I nod to myself. “Makes sense. Think the bitch knows where Hailey is?”
“Doubtful. Hailey went missing after you guys rescued me and we brought in Isabella.”
“Yeah, but the video the Mason brothers gave you shows that Hailey was in Las Vegas before you gave yourself over to Isabella.”
“True.” He sighs.
I plop down on the couch and lean forward, running my hand through my hair. By this point, Hooke isn’t going to find her, and we all know it. It’s the fact of locating her body and laying her to rest.
“Kashton?”
“One sec,” I say into the phone and stand when I see Gavin in front of me. I nod to tell him it’s okay to speak.
“She’s doing well. Let me know how she feels in the morning. If you think she needs another one, I’ll swing by and give it to her.”
I walk him to the door, give him some cash, and thank him for stopping by. As I shut and lock the front door, Haidyn speaks in my ear. “How is Eve?”
“Getting better. I had Gavin come by and give her another IV. She just finished.”
He sighs. “I’ll let you go, but I want to know one thing.”
“What is it?” I ask cautiously, heading back toward the primary suite. I know whatever it is, I don’t want to answer it.
“How deep is she in with Adam?”
I come to a stop at the bedroom and look over her in the bed. She’s sitting up with her back against the headboard, her green eyes looking at her phone. As if she feels me staring, she peers up at me through her lashes. “Trenches,” I answer without letting her know what I’m talking about.
“Motherfucker,” he growls. “I’m going to kill him—”
“I can handle it,” I interrupt Haidyn. “I’ve been handling it.” She hasn’t had a job since the night of her assignment. I’m not sure if that’s because Adam knows I’m against it or because he knows Eve needs to hide due to someone trying to frame her for the bodies found.
“Kash—”
“Trust me,” I urge.
“I do.” He sighs. “It’s just that…she deserves a brother. One who protects her.”
“And she has one,” I acknowledge. Eve pushes off the covers, getting out of bed.
My eyes drop to her long, lean legs and slowly take in her shaved pussy and large breasts.
Little bruises dot her body in various places from the spikes inside the restraints from the table in the basement.
The vows are still very noticeable on her skin.
A reminder that she belongs to me. “But she also has a husband. If I need help, I’ll ask you for it.
” I hang up and toss my phone onto the dresser.
She steps into me, leaning her head back, her eyes searching mine. They’re still dilated from the drugs that bastard gave her. “Who was that?”
“How do you feel?” I ask, ignoring her question and pushing hair back from her face.
“Horny.” She bites her bottom lip while undoing my belt.
“What are we going to do about that?” I reach up and start playing with her nipple, loving the way her breath hitches when I give it a light pinch.
Unzipping my jeans, she yanks them down my thighs, along with my boxer briefs. “Whatever you want.”
The room fills with her giggles when I pick her up and toss her onto the bed.
Janice called Eve this morning and asked us to join them for dinner. We couldn’t turn them down. We enter the house and make our way to the formal dining room. We’re ushered to our seats as Elli and Sin sit down across from us.
“How is everyone doing?” Sin’s mother asks, looking around.
We all nod and say good.
“I wish Haidyn and Charlotte could have made it.” Janice frowns. “I know pregnancy can be hard on the body. To be so small and pregnant with three? Poor thing. I felt sorry for her and took her some soup.”
Bill glances up from his plate, clearing his throat. “You went to Carnage?”
She nods. “This morning when I went out. Charlotte assured me that Haidyn was taking care of her, but I couldn’t do nothing.” She smiles. “And that cat of hers…Muffin is so adorable.”
Bill looks like he wants to talk to her about going there but is choosing to bring that up later when they’re alone. As far as I know, Janice has no clue that her ex-husband is a prisoner of ours. She thinks he’s dead. Something tells me Bill doesn’t want her to know the truth.
Sin is shoveling his food into his mouth, and his mother frowns. “Easton, are you in a hurry to leave?”
“No. But I’ve learned that having kids means you either eat quickly or you’re eating cold food.”
Elli laughs, rubbing his back. “Take your time, Sin. It’s okay.”
“He’s not wrong.” His mother chuckles, looking at Eve, and I hold my breath, hoping she doesn’t ask her about children. I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable about there not being any children in our future. “Eve?” she says.
“Yes, ma’am?” She looks up from her plate.
“Please call me Janice. I was updating my calendar yesterday and Bill told me that your birthday was a month ago.”
I frown, wondering why she didn’t mention it.
Eve doesn’t respond to that.
“I know we missed it, but I want to throw you a party. It’ll be a small get together. Here at the house.” Janice smiles excitedly.
“I don’t celebrate birthdays,” Eve states, looking up at her through her painted lashes.
“Oh.” Janice’s face falls.
Bill takes his wife’s hand and brings her knuckles to his lips and kisses them. “I think a birthday party is a great idea.”
“No, Bill, she doesn’t want one,” she whispers to him, but we can all hear. “I shouldn’t have overstepped—”
“Don’t you think so, Eve?” he cuts off his wife, looking at mine.
“Yeah.” She nods at Sin’s mother. “That’s very kind of you. Thank you.” Her eyes drop back down to her plate, and a silence blankets the large room.
The sound of one of the babies filters through the baby monitor that Sin has on the table. “Told you. They have perfect timing.” He grabs his wife’s plate.
Elli stands and so does Sin. “What are you doing?” Her eyes drop to her lunch in his hand.
“I’m going to feed you while you feed them,” he answers.
She rolls her eyes but smiles as she gives him her back and he follows after her.
EVERETT
I’m wandering around the house aimlessly. I needed a second to myself. To clear my head.
It’s still weird to be around so many people at once. I’ve never known what it feels like to have a family or have someone who wants to throw me a birthday party. I hate how excited I got when she said that. But then I quickly felt guilty for wanting something I don’t deserve.
I have no friends to invite. And as much as they want to be, they’re not my family.
Making my way slowly up the staircase, I step onto the second floor and enter the room that Bill told me was mine.
I have a room here. I shouldn’t be surprised, but again, I’m not sure how to feel about it.
Opening the door, I step inside. It’s got an instant calming feel to it.
Soft yellow curtains frame French doors that open to a balcony.
Pristine white carpet with a light blue rug.
A king-size bed sits in the middle of the room with pastel-colored throw pillows atop it.
The old me would want to vomit. The new me wants to crawl into the bed and close my eyes.
Imagine what it would be like to have a childhood in this house. To know what it feels like to be loved.
“I wanted to make it as welcoming as possible.”
I turn around to see Janice has entered the room. I give her a smile. “I love it.”
“Anything can be changed.”
“No. Really. It’s perfect.” I don’t want to disappoint her or cause her to think her efforts aren’t appreciated.
I look up to see Kashton step into the room.
He crosses his arms over his chest and leans against the doorway, staring right at me.
I turn my attention back on her. “Thank you. For everything.”
She gives me a smile and then pulls me in for a hug. I awkwardly wrap my arms around her before she steps back. “This is your home too, Eve. You are welcome here anytime.” With that, she gives me her back, and Kashton steps to the side as she walks out and closes the door softly behind her.
He strolls over to me, and I shuffle from heel to heel. I hate feeling like this. Out of control. Not knowing what to say or do. But I seem to always feel like this when we’re alone.
Once he reaches me, he cups my face, forcing me to look up at him. “Why didn’t you tell me your birthday just passed?”
I lick my lips nervously, not sure how to answer. I already said all that needed to be told downstairs.
“Eve?”
I drop my hands to his jeans and undo his belt and then his button before lowering his zipper.
“You’re deflecting.”
I look up at him and bat my eyelashes. “Don’t you want to christen my bedroom?” I grab the hem of my dress and pull it up and over my head and then shove my underwear down my legs and kick it away. Standing in front of him with nothing but my heels on. He loves it when I leave them on.
He groans, his eyes running up and down my body. His hands drop to my hips, and he pulls me flush to him. “You’re not playing fair,” he whispers, digging his fingers into me.
“You’re not playing with me at all,” I counter, giving him a sly smile. This is what I want to be. His mindless sex toy. “Now…bend me over this bed and fuck me. Then we can go back downstairs and hang out with your cum leaking from my pussy.”
“Whatever my wife wants.”
