Chapter 5
I didn't think the detective had it in him to throw punches but man they hurt. I was in the investigation room after my early arrest receiving blow after blow from Suarez and now my sweet detective.
"Is this how the law makes all criminals talk," I taunted. This time the detective threw a sick punch at my gut making me cough blood.
"Come on man that's too much don't kill the guy," Suarez said. I chuckled hearing that from the guy who wanted to shoot bullets in my head like some hours ago.
I should have probably kept quiet but it earned me another blow from Suarez who now had to be held back by detective Williams.
"Funny how two detectives who are at the peak of their careers are willing to lose it all by assaulting an innocent man,"I lamented shaking my head. "Just sad."
Detective Williams pulled a chair and sat infront of me. From my bruised eye I could see the man with blonde hair and blue eyes staring at me with the coldest look he could master.
"We have enough evidence to keep you behind bars for the rest of your life. On the charges on first degree murder and kidnapping. So don't sit hear acting as if you are an angel while you are a devil and everyone in this room knows it. So cut the crap Mr Ivan Bratan and admit to your crimes."
Those words from the detective cut deep inside my heart but I numbed it just laughing it off.
"First degree murder you said. Who did I kill and where is this evidence and kidnapping.
Where is tangible evidence that I committed this crimes.
At what time were they committed and do I have an alibi to back my statement that I was there in the event that the crimes were committed.
Detective Kayde Williams and your partner detective Luca Suarez do I need to school you on how to do your jobs because this looks like a personal vendetta now," I stated.
I watched as their eyes met Kayde getting up and exiting the room Luca hot on his trail.
I tried sitting upright to catch my breath when I felt a hot sting on my rib.
That must be broken. I looked at every detail of the room I was in.
Four white walls with no windows a table and two chairs to keep me company.
The room was meant to break people and live them feeling insane.
I wasn't scared neither was I in the process of being broken.
I was already broken and remodelled. The room reminded me of the room I was in when I was five years old.
Full of boys my age who were scared and crying asking for their mums and dads.
I remember one of the guards who came and punched a boy next to me who ended up passing out.
They only hit you when you cried and complained.
At an early age I had learned to be quiet not because I was afraid of being hit but I preferred survival over wasting my existence.
I was already in the world I was to take advantage of it to live lavishly.
I chuckled at the sad memories the pain bringing me back to reality when a police officer walked in with a glass of water left it on the table without as much as a single word.
I contemplated on drinking, but decided against it with Suarez harbouring too much hate for the mafia it might have been laced with poison. If not Suarez the other drug Lords have connections on the inside and they may set me up to be killed so they can take over my empire.
After an endless hour of no movement the door slummed open with a figure of a man who had been in tabloids for five years in a row. "To what do I owe this pleasure senior detective Dale Reynolds."
"You know my name Ivan?" He questioned.
"I don't think we are on first name basis senior detective I prefer you call me Mr Bratan I would feel much comfortable and yes who doesn't know the man who won the best detective of the year five years in a row," I said.
The man was in a clean cut grey suit that accentuated authority with respect. The two detectives behind him watching the interaction with tense shoulders. By their body language I could tell Ramon had done exactly what I asked him to. Wonderful things ought to get more interesting from there.
"I'm so sorry Mr Bratan for the treatment you have gotten here from my men.
Be assured that this is not how the law operates and according to the statement you gave there is more than one alibi to show that you were nowhere near the crime scene.
Since your connection with the crime has not been identified yet meaning we cannot hold you here any longer.
But since the van found and the men were yours investigations will still carry on.
During that time you are not allowed to live the country or the city until the investigation is completed," he apologized.
"Not so first senior detective you know if the treatment I was given gets to the press your detectives here may lose their jobs," I suggested.
The tall older cop stared down at me assessing me. "What do you want?"
"You see right there senior detective I like men who know how to go directly to the point.
I would like detective Suarez to take part in assisting work in my non profit organizations and orphanages.
While for detective Williams he will work for me in my company to investigate a recent case of fraud until the investigation is completed.
I believe such minimal tasks will not be difficult to undertake in comparison to the gravity of their actions," I reasoned.
"Done. Release the man detective Williams and detective Suarez take him to the hospital to get treatment. Let this never happen again. Mr Bratan my deepest apologies."
The man spoke those words leaving the room not sparing a glance to his two juniors disappointment in his eyes.
I could tell with the way he left he didn't like his officers working for me but since he agreed.
It meant their jobs meant more to him than his ego.
Meaning he had a soft spot for the two detectives.
"Let's get to work boys," I ordered earning scowls from the two detectives.
Isn't Ivan a darling? I love his personality so much. If you love him too drop a star for our amazing Ivan!!!
