Chapter 22
"Why are you here?" He asked. He sounded irritated or angry by the posture he held. "An arrest is set to be in place by the end of the week Mr Bratan," I answered. He chuckled chugging down the entire whiskey in his glass.
"Is this supposed to worry me or make me have some sort of reaction detective. If I remember correctly you set me up yet you are here giving me intel that I believe is confidential. Is this your silly way of apologizing?"
I stared at Ivan disbelief in my features of how confident he was in his assumptions.
I hadn't gone to his club to apologize. I went to inform him he would be arrested to show him his days of being a criminal were numbered.
Okay that sounded a bit stupid. If he knew he was about to be arrested that would give him a chance to escape and okay yes it looked very suspicious.
"Mr Bratan don't pride yourself that much. I have no reason to apologize to you. In this case I'm here to let you know that your days for commiting criminal offences are numbered. You are nothing but a murderer, an abuser and a rapist," I retorted.
His features turned gravely dark. His already grey eyes watching me with a sharpness that brought shivers to my skin.
We were in the green room he brought me the first time he had the company of that good looking male escort.
The words insatiable passion were still glaring at me.
The green led lights made the atmosphere of the room more intense then he put his glass down carefully assessing me.
"You are right about one thing only detective. Yes I'm a murderer, killing is killing at the end of the day the motive behind it does not matter. But an abuser and a rapist you are very mistaken detective."
My eyes met his a million questions on my mind yet none came out. The way he looked at me made me feel like taking back the words I had said. I was too proud to let him see that I felt guilty about offending him instead I seized the opportunity to question him further.
"You claim you are not a rapist or abuser yet you met up with an under age girl in very suspicious circumstances.
After meeting her a week later she goes missing when the prime minister opposes of whatever relationship is going on between you and his daughter.
At school they said she had marks on her.
Which she claimed she got by falling or something ridiculous but we both know you can't get hurt in the same spot everytime you slip on the bathroom floor," I concluded.
I watched him taking in every single word I had said.
He poured another glass and sipped watching me concoct my tales trying to deduce truth from lies.
"If you are looking for a confession from me detective you are in the wrong place.
I have nothing to say. If you have a warrant come and arrest me as you claim you will.
From there we can discuss all these foolish allegations you are throwing at me," he retorted.
"She is just a teenager Mr Bratan, there are so many women out there you can have. Why her?"
Ivan didn't respond the glass halfway to his lips his knuckles turned white, his jaw tightening. His eyes turned to slits while his posture changed.
"Mr Williams I think this conversation is over. You may leave I have other businesses to attend to."
I watched him, pressed to get the truth out of him. I could feel he was breaking the truth was almost out.
"Mr Bratan no need to be so hostile if every word I speak is just an accusation like you say.
The van which kidnapped her was yours. Your men were spotted at the scene only for them to end up dead.
All evidences lead to you. The motives point at you.
You wipe out your men to hide the evidence but it incriminates you further.
Where is the girl Mr Bratan, she may be infatuated with you because you offered her a job according to our investigations but that doesn't give you the right to abuse her," I tested him.
The glass came crushing at the other side of the wall as he stood up. "Get out! I said get out Williams and make sure I never lay my eyes on you again. If I do I'll make sure it's the last breath you take!"
I stood up and walked out of the room and left the club a smile plastered on my face. The case was almost solved. All the reactions Ivan had proved he was indeed guilty.
The beautiful summer night elevated my mood as I drove away.
"Is everything okay boss," Ramon asked. I turned to look at the boy anger clouding my vision. "He accused me of abusing her,"I confessed.
"How dare he? He is such a vile man. All he cares about is bringing justice to the prime minister while he can't tell everything is orchestrated. He can't separate facts from lies," Ramon replied.
"He is foolish to believe that I would abuse any woman let alone my own sister.
That detective is nothing but impulsive and self assured.
Get someone to clean this up. Make sure he never sets foot in this club ever again.
Without a warrant throw him out. I have no business dealing with a man whose judgement is clouded by a stupid sense of justice. "
"You should have killed him when you had the chance. I have always known he would be trouble," Ramon said.
He walked away to fetch someone to clean up the mess while the detective's words kept replaying in my mind.
I shouldn't have expected anything else from the man.
That's exactly what they all were dirty dogs who framed others in the name of the so-called justice.
Ramon was right about one thing. Maybe I should have killed him when I had the chance.
