Chapter 32

"He is here," Ramon announced.

"Get someone to get him something to drink and make sure he is comfortable," I ordered. "Another thing help me with my tie and cuff links will you?"

His eyes met mine surprise in his features. I laughed knowingly since it was the first time I asked the boy to help me get ready for a date.

"You are free to speak your mind."

He eyed me cautiously as if he was assessing those bombs and grenades he liked detonating when he was angry. "I'm surprised you are actually putting any effort in going out with this man. The last time I saw you do this is when you went out with Catalina," he observed.

"Yes yes you are right. Catalina was a very noble woman too bad she wasn't noble enough not to betray me. You know Marchetti won't be happy if I treat his son like a stranger," I reasoned.

"Is that the reason you are putting on a Brioni suit, a Patek Philippe Calatrava watch and oxford shoes?" He asked.

"It's nothing. You know I've always had a good sense of style."

He took steps towards me and started helping me with my tie then my cuff links. His black hair had overgrown a little bit making him look sharper than usual. His eyes held youth in them and I wanted it to be that way forever.

I pulled him into a hug which caught him completely unaware yet he relaxed into my embrace. Placing a chaste kiss on his forehead I stepped away from him smoothing out his hair. It had been years since he fit into my arms that well. He had really grown up, now he was a man.

"Stay away from Marchetti and his son. I don't want anyone to hurt you.

Marchetti's visit was very suspicious. He kept mentioning you and Mariya.

Since he didn't say your names you are safe for now and I intend to keep it that way but who knows how long it will take before he finds something that leads him to the two of you.

I went to great lengths to keep you hidden and safe.

I will not allow that twisted man to get a hold of you.

You are my blood. Stay safe bratishka. "

He nodded his head in understanding. His hands reaching out and patting me on my back.

"I will. Let me go and check on our sister she still hasn't woken up. Beregi sebya bratishka."

He left my room and I turned to my reflection in the mirror. My steel colored eyes alert and sharp. It wasn't that I was happy to meet with Romano Marchetti's boy. If the alliance meant keeping him off my back before I figured out what he knew regarding my siblings. Then so be it.

With one last look I ran hands in my hair and walked out of the room. "Sir, detective Williams is here to see you," Sammy declared.

"Let him in. There were a few papers I needed from him tonight," I said making my way to the living room. At the couch sat Vance. He was in a custom made Tom Ford suit, he had a black leather rolex and completed the look with brown Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. For one the man looked gorgeous.

Just like his father he grew his hair long. His black hair was in curly waves up to his neck. His dark eyes met mine and a spark in them was ignited. His suit snatched his waist with a very tempting definition of how many hours he spent at the gym.

He looked beautifully lethal.

"Mr Bratan," he called. I turned to find detective Williams standing at the entrance to the living room with the files in his hands. He did a double take from me to Vance a dangerous glint crossing his eyes.

"You look sharper than usual Mr Bratan."

A chuckle left my throat leaving him annoyed. The distaste showed on how he clenched and unclenched his hands on the file he was holding.

"While of course detective. Had you come five minutes late I would have already left. You see tonight is very special. I have a date with this lovely man right here," I mentioned walking next to where Vance was seated.

"Detective this here is my date Vance, and Vance this here is detective Williams a friend in the law enforcement."

Vance stood up and matched to shake the detective's hand who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but not in the room. They shook hands respectively and I took the files from him.

"I wouldn't want to delay your date or anything.

I then shall take my leave... Before I forget here are the invitations to my wedding it will be taking place next week.

If you have time you are welcome to attend and you can also bring along your date.

Have a lovely night Mr Bratan and it was a pleasure to meet you Vance. "

The detective turned and headed towards the elevator. His words stung I had to adjust my suit jacket so I could breath. I still couldn't believe it he was going to push on with his wedding even after finding out his fiancee was nothing but a cheat.

Rather than worry about detective rabbit. I handed the invites to Sammy and left.

"Shall we." Vance and I headed to the garage in the basement using the lift.

"Is something going on between you and the detective?" Vance implied.

Opening the car door for him I ignored his question and got behind the wheel.

"No, our involvement is purely professional!"

The look in his eyes told me he didn't believe a word I said. I should have known he wouldn't have left it at that and what he said next made me regret my previous words.

"Then that's a good thing for me. I know my father spoke to you about a business alliance but I would love to have more than a professional relationship with you," he suggested.

The son was quite like his father. Conniving and calculating I should have known.

"The night is young Vance. Let's finish up with business then we shall know if we can foster a personal connection."
