Chapter 10 Blaze
I walked into the diner. Dylan was being picked up by my parents and having a sleepover with them.
We did this once a week or so since his mother dropped him off and then killed herself.
I have no idea why she did that. I mean, people don’t look at single mothers that badly. They’re just off my menu.
The boys had taken over our two usual tables and were spread out, talking and eating before we hit the town clubs for a bit of fun. I waved to Old Gracie out in the kitchen and went over to sit with the boys.
It was good to see Midwife wasn’t there.
I didn’t really feel comfortable around him.
Seeing him reminded me of Daisy, and the night Junior was born.
Everyone used to rub it in my face that he was there the whole night with her, when I should have been.
So I tried to play it down by saying he was just playing at being a Midwife.
Unfortunately, the nickname became a badge of honour for him, and he wore it proudly on his kutte, now he’s VP.
Apparently, he was holding out for his ride-or-die woman. I told him that he didn’t need to wait, there was always fun to be had until he found her. But he wouldn’t listen to me. Looks like he was now.
I slid into a chair beside one of the newer boys. After greeting everyone, I nodded towards the couple.
“What’s happening there? Midwife’s got a date?”
“No idea, Blaze. I don’t think he knew she was coming, but as soon as she turned up, he went over and sat down.”
“Who is she? Does anyone know her?”
A round of nopes and shaking heads made me smile.
Definitely a new girl to town, and Midwife’s lucking out.
She might be interested in joining me for a bit of fun.
I’m sure I can show her a better time than Midwife.
Well, until Daisy comes back, then that is all going to stop.
Like I promised myself, once she came back, I was done.
I’ll settle down and be like Dad. Sex only with my ol’lady. But until then, I was still free.
Midwife still didn’t look like he was making much headway, it wouldn’t hurt to go and introduce myself… show her a little Blaze magic and give her a good impression of what an Ares Rider Biker can do.
I sauntered over with a smile on my face.
“Hey beautiful, I was over there admiring you and wanted to introduce myself and offer to show you the town, seeing as young Midwife here probably wouldn’t.” I stuck my hand out for her to shake. “I’m known as Blaze.”
She looked up at me with eyes that reminded me of Daisy, except Daisy’s eyes were never filled with hate like this. Wait. Hang on. That was also Daisy’s face, just a bit rounder.
“I know who you are,” the woman said in Daisy’s voice. “And I know what you do. I haven’t missed it and I still don’t want it.”
She looked back at Midwife and ignored me, speaking only to him. “I need to go, Jim. Thank you for dinner, and everything else.”
My wife stood up and walked away. Midwife, the bastard, flashed me a grin and then bellowed across the diner.
“Welcome back Daisy! Hope you enjoy your visit.”
She half-turned and waved back at him, making it obvious to all the brothers who he had been sitting with. I gave him a quick glare, then ran after her.
“Daisy, wait!” I yelled, dodging the tables.
She did. She even turned around to look at me, folding her arms under those amazing breasts of hers.
“Fuck you, Blaze. I came to see my dad, not you. But the first thing I see is a little redheaded look-alike of you. Who incidentally is ten months younger than our boy would have been if you had turned up when I called, and I didn’t have to wait for Midwife.
Is that a coincidence?” She screwed up her nose and shook her head sharply.
“I don’t think so. You’re nothing but the scum they scrape off the road every morning.
Go fuck off and find the next bit of free pussy. I’m done.”
She turned again and walked out the door. I stood shocked. This wasn’t how I imagined it. I started to move to follow her, but I got stopped by a big hand on my shoulder, holding me in place.
“Let her go,” the deep bass of our enforcer Bear grumbled at me. “A woman that angry is more likely to run you over than listen to you.”
I watched through the window as she climbed into a small car that was at least ten years too old and drove away.
A chuckle behind me distracted me. “Four years and he can’t recognize his own wife when she appears in front of him. Classic Blaze.”
“Shut up, Horse,” I growled at the grinning blonde kid with the stupid man bun. It only made him laugh harder.
I turned my attention to Midwife. “What were you doing chatting up my ol’lady?” I snarled. “You knew who she was.”
Midwife sat his ass on the edge of the table.
“Of course I know who she is. Can’t mistake her for anyone else,” he sneered and folded his arms. “And as for what I was doing? I was just doing the job you gave me four years ago.” He leaned forward.
“I was looking after her.” He was smirking.
My blood thrummed in my ears as I leapt, trying to grab him.
My hands gripped air. Somehow, he slid out of my grasp. Instead, my head hit the table hard.
I felt someone pressing my head against the hard surface, and then Midwife whispered in my ear, “And I’ll keep doing it until I don’t need to. You snooze, you lose asshole.”
He pushed off my head and I heard the door open and shut as he called out his goodbyes.
