Chapter 35
KORMAC
He hit me in the chest with the shard. A direct hit to the heart.
I felt no pain, only surprise.
“Kormac!” he cried, drawing the shard out, his skin sparkling with green and blue light.
I collapsed into his arms. He lowered me to the ground, calling my name. But his voice faded, a muffled cry.
He’d killed me.
He called and called and touched and nothing happened. Energy left me, both life and that strange light that’d saved him….
Saved him so he could kill me.
After everything, he’d got what he’d wanted.
He’d got his revenge.
I didn’t blame him. Whatever had been building between us wasn’t real. We were enemies, nothing more than that.
A lie…
We were…
We were over.
My vision failed. I waited for the next part, the dark or the light or whatever waited for me.
Fading…
Fading…
Standing in a room of green and blue, birds singing outside a window.
Not…
Not standing.
Floating.
“What?”
