Chapter 16
Fuck! Could this day get any worse? Not only are these fuckers on our turf, but now Raegan has a large target on her back.
My vision bursts red when I looked up from talking with Bull and saw Viper cuts surrounding Raegan.
When he put his dirty hands on her pure silky skin, I couldn’t reach them fast enough.
The thought of someone so vile touching what was mine kicked my adrenaline into overdrive.
I didn’t care that we were in public and had witnesses, Hector fucking Sanchez was going to meet his maker.
Turner, the police chief and our longest running man on our payroll, had already come by our booth earlier to inform us that the Vipers MC was present at the carnival. He made sure to let us know to keep the peace with so many innocent lives in attendance with mostly children here today.
Like we’d start a shootout with witnesses to identify us.
None of us want to see the inside of a cellblock any time soon, so we made sure to have our weapons put away and left them with the prospects manning the food booth.
A police van appears and we’re placed in the back of it.
I can hear my little wildcat still arguing with the mayor and officers to let us go, but I know this is what the mayor has been waiting a long time for.
He’s been trying everything to get us cuffed and locked up.
In the van Reaper, Brass, Havoc, Bull, and I sit along one bench, while Hector and his crew are opposite us.
We’re all cuffed and chained to the seats so that we can’t make any movements with our hands and feet.
The others must be in the other police cars that pulled up after we entered the van.
“So, the unbreakable Stone now has a kink in his armor,” Hector boasts.
I wish I could break these chains to permanently shut his mouth.
Instead, I lean my head back against the van and try to drown this fucker out.
“I bet she’s a firecracker in bed by the way she tried to put up a fight out there.
Hmm, I bet her pussy is just as sweet as her skin smelled out there.
” He makes a point to sniff the air like he can still smell her.
I shift forward in my seat and stare him square in the eye.
“I’m gonna cut every one of your fingers off with a dull knife after I tear out your fucking tongue, you piece of shit,” I say in a low menacing tone.
He stares at me for a moment but then shakes his head as if this is some frat house banter between friends.
He’s poked the bear one too many times, and in the next few days, he is going to realize that his club is no longer playing with the big boys.
We’ve made sure that they’ll be losing both their drug and gun shipments for good.
Raegan and Hawk have made sure to clean all their accounts out and wired all of their money to an offshore account she set up.
We arrive at the police station and are ushered into two large rooms where they split up our clubs.
One thing you learn in this lifestyle is that cops take their sweet ass time booking you in.
I already know our attorney, Donald, has been called and made aware of this situation.
Being a small town, word travels fast. It should just be a matter of time before we move this process along.
They don’t really have us on anything except fighting in public.
But for some reason I think Mayor Burns has something up his sleeve.
“You think Turner’s going to be able to work his magic and get us off on a warning?” Brass asks after we’ve been in this white box for what seems like hours.
“We’ll have to wait and see, but I doubt it,” Havoc says leaning his head back against the painted cinderblocks. “Am I the only one who feels like we were set up? Why in the hell were Vipers in our town to begin with any way?”
Havoc has a really good point. Even Turner was shocked when he was telling us about them walking around the carnival. Their clubhouse is an hour away; why come here if not to start trouble? They know we’re in a war and yet they come at us with witnesses?
The sound of footsteps echo across the concrete flooring as the door finally opens and in strolls Turner along with our attorney.
We all make our way over to the table in the middle of the room and have a seat.
Donald Smith is a bald older man in mid-fifties.
I found him when I took over as president five years ago.
He had a son who was killed by a drug deal gone wrong in the parking lot of the local grocery store here in town.
His son just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and caught a stray bullet walking out to his car.
The cops were having a hard time finding the scum who did it, and when we decided to step in, we were able to bring Smith the justice he was searching for.
“How bad is it?” I ask Smith.
“Not as dreadful as it was supposed to be,” he confesses while pushing his glasses up from his nose to the top of his head.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Havoc questions.
“It means that you guys dodged a hefty one here today,” Turner pipes up to tell us.
That has me curious now.
“It seems that the mayor is really pushing the D.A. to charge you guys with a whole slew of crimes to put you behind bars for a while. Especially those of you who have priors.”
“For a little fight? It wasn’t even as brutal as those bar brawls they have down at Rusty’s on a Saturday night,” Reaper scoffs.
“According to the mayor, they found weapons and dime bags on you guys out at the carnival,” Smith informs us.
“What in the ever-loving fuck is that about? We left our guns and knives at the booth.” I growl then point over at Turner, “And you know that’s bullshit!”
Turner puts his hands up in defense.
“I had nothing to do with this. I’ve already told the D.A. my side of everything. Told him that those lowlifes came into the carnival and started trouble, and you guys were defending two helpless women who were being harassed.”
Damn right he did! We pay out the ass for Turner to be our eyes and ears on the law enforcement side, and he does it well.
“So, what the fuck are they going to do now?” Havoc inquires.
“Well, it seems as though your little lady barged into the D.A.’s office with a large envelope after we were told what the mayor was saying. I tried to stop her, Stone, but she whizzed right past me and Turner and locked the door behind her,” Smith blows out a frustrated breath.
“Well, shit, that can’t be good,” I hear Brass comment.
I can only imagine what she’s up to and what was in that envelope.
“If I may, she’s a whirlwind, that woman,” Smith quips. I can’t help but chuckle as he rubs his hands over his face in an exhausted manner.
There’s a knock on the door and Turner goes to answer.
An officer stands in the doorway whispering to him and using his hands to talk.
After getting a few head nods from Turner, he and the officer leave.
While we wait for Turner to come back, Smith fills us in on a few pieces of properties that we want to purchase for a larger warehouse to store our guns.
Our second choice, which is twenty miles outside of the city, is available, so I give the go ahead to make the buy and put it under one of our dummy corporations.
Just as Smith is about to go see what they’re planning, Turner walks in.
“Well?” I demand.
“It seems as though I’m to give both clubs a warning and let you go,” Turner states and we’re all just as shocked as he seems to be.
Something isn’t adding up right now. Why put on that big display for the town if you’re just going to let us go a few hours later?
Not to mention trying to plant drugs and weapons on us.
“Wait? What? Just like that?” Brass contests.
Turner nods his head and looks back at me.
“It seems as though the meeting with the D.A. and your little woman skirted in her favor. I’m told to tell you to keep your nose clean and to stay under the radar. He won’t be able to give this pass again,” he warns.
“I wonder what Raegan did?” Havoc echoes what is going through my mind.
“You’re free to go, I’ll give you guys few minutes before I release the other ones in the next room,” Turner adds and then walks out leaving the door open.
We all get up from our chairs as Smith stuffs papers back in his briefcase.
“I’ll be in touch with the documents on the property, Stone. Call if you need anything else.” He puts his hand out for me to shake. “Should I be worried that I’m being replaced by a woman half my size?” he jokes as our hands connect.
It brings a smile to my face.
“Nah, she just likes to keep others on their toes,” I brag, but I really want to beat my chest at how proud I am at her for sticking up for me and my club. I know a very deserving woman who will be rewarded tonight when we get home.
We all walk out together to the lobby where my little wildcat has her head stuck on her phone reading something.
Sutton is sitting next to her when she sees us coming out and nudges Raegan’s side.
Turning her face, she sees us and a wave of relief washes over her face as she takes off running across the lobby at full force into my body.
I catch her in my arms and bring her in close.
“Oh god, I was so worried it wouldn’t work,” she admits with her head in the crook of my neck.
“Let’s get out of here and then you’re going to tell me everything,” I prompt.
We need to leave this shithole place and get away from those Viper fuckers before we end up back in there for killing them right in front of the police station. I see Hawk and the rest of our brothers in the far part of the parking lot with our bikes ready for us. We approach and greet them.
“Dude, what the hell happened? Last I heard you were getting brought up on some bogus charges,” Riot rants. “Then RaeRae calls us to drop your bikes off. What gives, Stone?”
Brass, Havoc, Reaper, and I all turn to Raegan for the answers.
“Oh, well when I heard what Dennis was trying to do, I took a look into the D.A.,” Her face lights up at telling us her findings.
“Let me tell you, he is as dirty as a pig in shit. It took me a whole four minutes to get enough on him to remind him that the prison jumpsuit wasn’t a good color for him.
” She shrugs her shoulders like it’s no big deal, but it means everything to my club.
I can see from their faces that they are in awe of her for sticking up for us.
If I was worried about them accepting her as my woman before, I know now for a fact that they’d lay their lives down for her.
As much as I hate any one touching her, I watch as each one goes over to her and embraces her.
I won’t ever forget this act of loyalty, nor will the club.
“Let’s get the fuck out of here. Church tomorrow, tell everyone. We have a lot to discuss,” I say and mount my bike while helping Raegan on.
Filing out of the parking lot I see that asshole, Hector, and his crew just walking out the doors of the police station. I raise my hand off the handlebar and point right at him letting him know his days are numbered.
I’ll get that little shit and put him in the ground.
