Chapter 25

Miles

Iwasn’t really sure what happened. One minute, we were playing chess. The next minute, we’d stripped out of our clothes, and Sofia was bent over the back of the couch while I fucked her from behind.

We hadn’t even gotten halfway through the game.

The problem was, I couldn’t keep my hands off her. Not after she’d admitted that it had always been me whom she’d wanted.

Theo’s memory still hovered in the back of my mind, and with it, came pangs of guilt. While I was over the fucking moon to learn Sofia had wanted me since that night, and not Theo, it didn’t change how Theo had felt about her.

She explained that for every question Theo had asked her about herself, she’d told him nothing but lies, and that the woman Theo thought she was didn’t actually exist, yet guilt continued to linger, and I suspected it would for a long time to come.

But I wasn’t going to let it ruin what we were building.

Apparently, all it had taken for my brain to get its ass into gear was the fear of losing her.

Her cunt clenched around my cock, and I slapped her ass, enjoying the cry she squealed. If I hadn’t been so focused on making her come, I would have heard the telltale beep of the security system unlocking. It was only when the door swung open and none other than Riley stormed into the bunker.

“What the fuck!” I bellowed, freezing mid-thrust.

“Oh shit!” Riley shrieked, rapidly covering her eyes.

“What the fuck are you doing here?”

I slipped out of Sofia, grabbing her T-shirt from where I’d thrown it onto the floor before helping her into it and pulling my boxers on.

“I came to let you guys outta here,” Riley grinned, unable to hide her amusement. “Hey, this reminds me of the time you walked in on me and Kai when we were naked.”

“You saw Riley naked?” Sofia said, glaring at me.

“Who saw my wife naked?” the unmistakable voice of Kai boomed as the man himself walked through the door.

He looked at Riley peeking through the gaps in her fingers to Sofia’s disheveled hair, and finally to me, where I stood without a top on. An accomplished smirk spread over his lips, and my fists clenched with the need to pummel his fucking face in.

“What did I tell you, Star. They just needed a little bit of time alone. Maybe we should leave them to it.”

Red mist clouded my vision, and I marched over to him, throwing my fist in his direction. “You motherfucker!”

He caught my punch with ease, twisting my wrist around until it almost cracked. “Are you really complaining? Looks to me like you got your head out of your ass like I told you to.”

I ripped my hand from his grasp, pain searing my arm, and adding fuel to the burning rage pumping through me. “Fuck you, Kai.” I shoved him, making him take a step back. “You have no idea what your fucked up plan did to Sofia, she almost fucking-”

“Miles,” Sofia’s soft pleading reached my ears a second before I blurted that she’d almost killed herself. I twisted in her direction, and she gave a subtle shake of her head, silently asking me not to tell them what had happened.

My jaw clenched as I turned back to Kai.

“You had no right to interfere in our lives, and you had no fucking right to lock us in here,” I snarled, the need to punch something still romping through me.

“Get the fuck out of my sight, I’ve got nothing more to say to you.

” I turned my furious gaze to Riley. “To either of you.”

“Speak to my wife like that again and-” Kai hissed, all traces of humor gone.

“Oh, quit the bullshit, Kai,” Riley snapped, propping her hand on her hip.

“Miles has every right to be pissed at you; you should never have pulled this shit. I’m pissed at you for what you did.

” Her features softened when she turned to Sofia.

“I promise you, I only found out an hour ago that you guys were locked in here, and as soon as I found out, I demanded that we come here to let you out. This moronic plan had nothing to do with me.”

“It’s okay,” Sofia replied, giving her friend a small smile. “If you don’t mind, I’m going to go and…um…put some clothes on.”

She swiftly disappeared into the bathroom, her cheeks on fire with embarrassment. Another reason why I wanted to kill Kai.

“We’ve got a meeting in thirty minutes, so get dressed.” Kai met my glare the second the bathroom door shut behind Sofia. His tone was cool, the one he used when he was discussing business and wasn’t going to take no for an answer. “The guards are outside; they’ll take Sofia and Riley home.”

I glowered back at him. The obnoxious prick really thought I was going to do anything he ordered me to do.

“Get fucked.”

He snorted. “Be mad at me all you like, but believe me when I say you won’t want to miss this meeting.”

“I’ll say this slowly so it gets through your thick skull. Get. Fucked.”

Kai rolled his eyes as amusement twitched at his lips. “There’s news about Herrera.”

My heart lurched. Fuck. That changed things, and the cunt damn well knew it.

Accepting that I had no choice but to go with him if I wanted to know what the development was, I gritted my teeth as I dressed, ignoring the bickering between Kai and Riley, silently championing her, given that she was attempting to tell him off for his less-than-brilliant plan.

Except, no one told Kai off, including her.

“I’ll drive separately,” I huffed, grabbing my car keys off the side. No way in hell was I going to be stuck in a car with the dickhead.

I didn’t give him a chance to reply before stomping past him and getting into the car, relieved to see daylight flooding into the tunnel. Kai followed, still smirking at me like the cat who got the fucking cream as he strolled past to get in his car.

Goddammit, why did I have to be cursed with a psycho cousin?

Once we’d turned the cars around in the small space, I tailed Kai out of the bunker, the bright sun burning my retinas. As we pulled into the woods, four SUVs, all containing our men, waited. The sight of them did nothing to calm my worry that Herrera had made a move while we’d been locked away.

My mind churned as we drove from the hills of Hollows Bay and through the city, wondering who in hell we were meeting, and what the news could be.

Turning off the highway, my unanswered questions doubled when I followed Kai into the slums of East Bay, the shithole part of the city Riley had lived in before she met Kai.

Although, the area wasn’t quite as shitty as it had once been, Riley was determined to make the place sparkle. I wasn’t convinced; you couldn’t polish a turd, but she was trying her damned hardest to roll it in glitter.

Pulling into the parking lot of the now derelict Club Sin, my brows creased. What the fuck were we doing here? The club had closed after the mass shootout a while back and had since been boarded up.

I parked next to Kai, and as I stepped out, I sucked in a deep breath, relishing the fresh air. Fuck, it felt good to be out of the bunker.

“Why the hell are we at this shithole, and who are we meeting?” I demanded when Kai joined me.

Aside from the place being a dump, it was also the place where we lost one of our closest friends. Couldn’t say I was thrilled with being reminded of the time my hands were covered in blood while Kai attempted to console him as he took his dying breaths.

Kai shrugged, seemingly unfazed by the location. “Needed a place out of the way. We’re meeting Bianchi Junior, and he refused to meet anywhere obvious.”

“You should have brought him to the bunker, that’s out the fucking way,” I muttered, hiding my surprise that we were meeting him. Sofia had mentioned he had gone to New York for a few days.

“How long are you going to be pissed about it for, ‘cos to tell you the truth, your attitude is already beginning to grate on me.”

I grabbed Kai’s shirt and stood toe-to-toe to him. “You know what’s really beginning to grate on me? Your fucking, ‘I can do anything I like, consequences be damned,’ attitude.”

He knocked my hands away. “From what I saw, Miles, it looked like the consequences of my, ‘I can do anything I like,’ attitude played into your favor. Unless you were forcing yourself on Sofia?”

He raised a brow and smirked. It was only the tires crunching on gravel and announcing the arrival of another car that stopped me from slamming my forehead into Kai’s nose.

Fucking cunt.

Straightening up, I stepped away from Kai in a bid to quell the bubbling fury underneath my skin, and glared as Rafe got out of his car, pulling his hood over his head.

The fact that he’d arrived without his usual security and was attempting to hide his face raised my hackles, and I subtly checked that my gun was still tucked into the back of my jeans after I’d taken it out of the car on the way to the club.

“Can we go in?” he said, nodding to the building behind us.

“Yeah,” Kai replied.

Rafe glanced nervously around as we followed Kai to the side of the building, to a door I’d once kicked open. It now had a wooden board across it, preventing anyone from going in, but Kai ripped it away from the door with ease.

The club was silent except for our feet crunching on broken glass, remnants of the last time we were here. Instead of heading to the heart of the club, Kai led us to a small office where the only bit of furniture was a blood-stained couch.

“Start talking, Bianchi. What’s so important that you had to meet us as soon as possible?” Kai said, folding his arms across his chest.

“Is Sofe okay?” Rafe asked, ignoring Kai and directing his question at me.

“She’s fine. In fact, if you don’t mind, I’d quite like to get back to her, so how about you tell us why the fuck we’re here.”

His lips pursed as he stared at me with uncertainty in his eyes. Fair. The last time he’d seen her, she’d no doubt told him how much we supposedly hated each other.
