Chapter 22

There was no way this was going to work. I didn’t even know why I insisted we go, when I wasn’t a party kind of girl.

The black wig that Blake had hunted down washed me out.

The makeup made me look goth when it was a style and flare that I just couldn’t pull off.

I didn’t do dark makeup of any kind, let alone black eyeliner and dark eye shadow.

I now had a fake nose ring and clip-on earrings traveling down my left ear.

At least she managed to cover the scratch on my cheek from Vicky and her cat-like nails.

I hated to admit it, but the thong I’d grabbed from the box Nash left was super comfortable.

“I think you look great,” Ivy said.

I looked down at the rocker outfit and shook my head. Chantry had given me leather pants, a matching coat, and knee-high boots.

“Guys, I can’t go out like this. I feel ridiculous. No offense, Chantry, you look great in it, but I mean, look at me.”

“I am, and you look totally badass. Like an assassin, throwing Myles on the ground and taking him, badass.”

My cheeks flamed hot with the image that flashed through my mind. It also brought up the fact that I had woken up in Blake’s bed while he was in the shower. Myles didn’t say a word about it when he walked in with food, but there was a weirdness in the air that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

“Besides, you’re going to take off the jacket and wig before you go into the party. Then you’ll just look hot as fuck, and Myles isn’t going to know what to do with himself.” Ivy smiled. “Or he will when you get back, just saying.”

I needed a fan and an ice bath. “Okay, enough of that,” I said, the leather feeling a lot hotter and heavier suddenly.

I took another turn in the mirror before resigning myself to my reality.

There was a knock at the door, and Chantry stood to answer it.

I was disappointed that they weren’t coming to this party, but Chantry wasn’t feeling good, and Ivy was going on her first date with Zigzag to a comic bookstore and then the movies.

The door swung open, and Myles and Blake were standing out in the hall. I almost burst out laughing with the identical mouth drop.

“Jesus, ya look like ya just stepped out of Assassins Creed ,” Myles said, stepping into the room. His eyes roamed up and down my body, and I would’ve sworn that I was naked and not wearing multiple layers of clothing.

“See, I told you,” Ivy said, which only made me blush harder.

“I was comin’ to tell ya that there are two police officers checking cars at the end of the driveway,” Myles said.

“Is that normal?”

“No. My dad never does checks close to the academy,” Ivy said.

“When I pulled in, I saw that guy who stopped us the first day of school. What was his name?” Blake snapped his fingers.

“Ellis. What the fuck is it with this guy?”

“Okay. I guess I won’t go. You still can. I have lots to do here.” My heart sank that I was going to have to stay now. I was pumped to get off the property and do something resembling a date with Myles.

Myles wrapped his arm around my waist. “Naw, we’re thinkin’ to have ya lay in the trunk until we get down the road, and then we’ll stop and let ya out.”

“Are you serious?”

“Aye, why not?”

Everyone seemed to be totally cool with this idea. “Um…maybe because you could get in an accident, or forget about me, or the trunk get stuck. I don’t like small spaces, not after…you know.”

Myles’s smile fell. “Ah, shite. I forgot about that.”

“Why don’t I drive, and you two can lay back there together? I’m sure Myles can keep you distracted long enough to get off campus, and I won’t forget about you. I would if it was just Myles,” Blake teased.

“Fuck ye. I’ll make sure ya don’t forget about me….” Myles grumbled. He tightened his hand around my waist, and I sucked in a deep breath. “We don’t have to go. We can stay here.”

“No, I want to do this.” Now, I just needed to avoid a major panic attack in the trunk of a car, but one step at a time.

“Alright then, let’s go.”

Hugging the girls, I stepped into the hall with Myles and Blake, and the few people loitering glanced at me a couple of times. Hopefully they were trying to figure out who I was and not wondering what the fuck I was wearing. We walked to the guy’s side and the exit they used to sneak in and out.

Blake stopped when he reached the door. “Just to play devil’s advocate, hear me out. They have you under lockdown for a reason. Is it really safe to take you off property? I mean, we don’t know why the cops are here.”

“And yet ya already did,” Myles said.

“True, but that doesn’t mean it was smart.”

Blake made an excellent point, but I was feeling rebellious.

“I have seen all the horror movies that start with the girl doing something dumb, and this probably is too, but I hate feeling so cooped up, and no one will tell me anything. My father has taken off to who knows where, and Dean Henry isn’t about to spill what he knows.

Meanwhile, I’m supposed to stay here like a prisoner.

Um…hello? I’m the one person here that probably shouldn’t be in prison. No offense.”

“None taken, and you’re right, but it doesn’t make it any safer,” Blake argued. I hated logical arguments. No, that wasn’t true. I loved them, just not when they were used to thwart me.

“It’s your choice, Snowflake,” Myles said.

I never did anything risky.

“We can consider this a test,” I said.

“A test, how?” Myles gave me a skeptical look, his forehead creasing with a frown.

“When I went out with Blake last time, we didn’t have any issue with the police.

That makes me think someone, like Dean Henry, here at the school is notifying them that I’ve left.

If I’m right and we sneak off without anyone seeing us, but the police still arrive, then someone we know and is our age is the one calling and not the dean. ”

“I see where ya going with this.” He rubbed his chin.

“Also, if no one knows I’ve left, then whatever or whoever it is that’s a threat shouldn’t be an issue. We still don’t know if it’s something serious or my father being a jerk. Besides, I’ll have all of you there for protection.”

“Also true.”

“So, let’s do this,” I said.

Myles gripped my chin, his eyes boring into mine.

“I’ll protect ya no matter what.” I gave his lips a quick peck and nodded.

With that, we were out the door, and I was ushered to the trunk of a black vehicle parked by a clump of trees where the light from the last lamppost didn’t shine.

Myles helped me climb in, and I pushed back until I was up against the wall of the backseat.

My heart began to flutter, and I took a few steadying breaths as Myles got in and took up the rest of the space.

His nose touched mine and calmed me for a moment before Blake closed and locked the trunk.

We were plunged into pitch black, and my mind ran down a dark tunnel of panic.

The pounding of my heart was so fast that it was making me lightheaded, and I was gasping for breath.

I gripped the front of Myles’s jacket, and the irrational fear had me on the verge of screaming, but if I did that, then I didn’t know if I would stop.

“Hey, it’s okay.” Myles cupped my face. “Just close yer eyes and imagine we are in my bed, and I’m holdin’ ya.”

“Your bed doesn’t smell like gas or itch like this carpet, and it definitely doesn’t move.”

“I can make the bed move, Snowflake. All ya need to do is ask,” he teased, his voice dropping low and suggestive.

He pulled me closer until his lips touched mine.

“Do ya have any idea what yer doing to me dressed like that?” I shook my head, and he nipped at my bottom lip.

“Gimmie yer hand,” he said, placing his hand over the fist clutching the front of his school jacket.

“Trust me, Snowflake,” he whispered against my lips and kissed me a little deeper. “Just listen to my voice.”

My hand slowly relaxed, but as he slid it down his body to the front of his jeans, it did nothing to calm my out-of-control heart.

In fact, it made it ten times worse as my hand ran over the hard ridge trapped by his jeans.

It was a good thing he couldn’t see my face because I was sure the flaming red blush on my cheeks which would have been like a glowing sign of my embarrassment.

“Is this supposed to make me less nervous,” I asked softly, and I could feel his lips curve up.

“Maybe changing the focus of yer nervousness is more accurate.” He stopped using his hand to guide mine, and I stopped as well.

“Keep touchin’ me. It feels incredible.” Myles groaned as my grip tightened and my stomach fluttered.

Sliding my hand down the rough material until there was nowhere else to go, I started back up.

My imagination was conjuring all sorts of new ideas, and a dull ache throbbed between my legs.

I wanted to know what he looked like and felt like in my hand.

Myles shuddered as he kissed my lips and moved his hips against my palm. I remembered what it felt like to straddle him and feel that rigidness between my legs.

“Where are you heading?” I heard the question from outside the car and didn’t know if it was the guard or an officer. The voices were muffled, but I could still make out what was being said.

“To town, I’m meeting up with some friends.”

“Any drinking tonight?”

“No, officer. I don’t drink and drive,” Blake said, which answered that question.

My attention was pulled back to Myles as I heard his belt come undone. “Will ya touch me for real,” he asked, and I nodded even though he couldn’t see it. I swallowed the nervous anticipation lodged in my throat.

“Yes,” I breathed out softly.

The sound of the zipper was soft, but to me, it was the only thing I heard. The voices of Blake and the officer became nothing more than a backdrop.

“Ya ready?” I nodded again, too terrified to use my voice to say yes without randomly yelling it.
