Chapter Ten #2

Rex frowned at the way Cooper’s eyes glimmered as he looked at Xia. Admiration weaved with a flash of desire he recognized all too well. Cooper had joined him and Axel many times for some licentious foursomes.

He didn’t like the CDS Club Manager lusting after his wife whisperer. Not one bit.

Selfish bastard, his conscience berated him. You don’t want her, and she’s a hot little piece of ass. Why not let him?

Rex had no answer. Mainly because it wasn’t true. He did want her. Well... physically at least. She was hotter than hell in bed, and as a submissive, she stroked the demon inside him like no other.

Except it didn’t matter. He had made up his mind about the time frame to obtain a wife.

Even if he had the notion of giving a relationship a try with her, it would never work.

Rex wasn’t one to abstain, and with her in Hawaii for two years would mean seeing her potentially once every couple of months.

That would never work. He would end up fucking a sub, and that meant cheating.

Rex wasn’t a cheating man. Once he committed to one woman, that was it.

Exclusivity was key to every relationship he had ever had.

It would be no different with his potential wife.

No, stick to the plan, Rex, my man. She’s only here to help you find your perfect wife.

Yeah... keep telling yourself that, the voice mocked him once again. He adroitly ignored it.

“For now, you’re exactly where you need to be, doing exactly what your new function requires,” he grunted, irritated with himself.

The unfeminine snort drifting from her lips amused him to no end.

Xia Foster annoyed was a delightful sight.

“However, I am going to prefer alone time with my potential wives at times, which will offer you adequate opportunity to indulge in barkeeping duties and playing in the dungeon.”

“I’ll have you know, Sir, that I do not appreciate being passed back and forth, so do not blame me if you end up with the wrong wife.”

One eyebrow curved into a question mark while humor glimmered in his eyes. “And why is that, subbie?”

“Well, not knowing what is expected from me one minute from the next would mean I might lose focus and miss very important signs.”

“Hmm... so, you would prefer to stick by my side 24/7.” He tapped his fingers while studying her with amusement.

“Very well. I have no qualms about you watching me scene and fuck them, so, from now on, you will have front seat views.” He glanced at Cooper.

“Please arrange for a comfortable recliner chair to be brought to my bedroom. We can’t expect my wife whisperer to be sitting upright the entire night. ”

“E-Entire night?”

“Of course. When I take a sub, especially a potential wife to my bed, it will be a full night marathon.”

“Freaking rotten bear balls,” she muttered softly.

“What was that, Xia?” He pretended to frown while he struggled to hold back a laugh since he heard her well enough. “I warned you that I don’t appreciate mumbling.

“I said, I’d better be getting paid overtime.”

Startled Trocaz pigeons burst from a nearby dragon palm in a flutter of slate-grey wings with their distinctive, white-banded tails flashing in the Atlantic sun as Rex’s laughter boomed across the terrace.

They scattered with affronted coos, wheeling out over the clifftop gardens before disappearing into the laurel forest below.

“Master Coop, I’ll leave you in charge to ensure that Ms. Foster gets properly compensated for overnight evaluations while we’re here.”

“Of course, Master R.”

Nodding, Rex gestured to the house. “There are four bedrooms. Feel free to pick whichever one... except for the master bedroom, of course.”

“Of course,” Xia mumbled as she stomped through the wide-open sliding door. “We wouldn’t want the potentials to feel slighted.”

Rex couldn’t help the feeling of delight flooding his mind. Xia’s open irritation felt too much like jealousy.

“Now, now... be nice. Every one of the potentials I’ve jotted down are very nice women.”

She spun about. “You made a list!?”

“Of course. If anything, I’m expeditious. The sooner I find my future wife, the better. Knowing which ones I am physically attracted to saves time, don’t you think?”

“It seems it doesn’t matter what I think, especially if you base your choices on looks, Master R.”

His eyes took a leisurely path over her body. She looked fresh and ready for the plucking in a white sundress that hugged her generous curves. His hands twitched at the memory of how soft and willing her body had yielded to his every demand.

“I appreciate a beautiful woman as much as the next man, Xia, but to me, the soul connection is more important. Once I find that... it’s game over.”

“Ah, that elusive soul connection everyone believes is the golden ticket to love ever after.” She sounded more annoyed by every passing second.

“And you don’t?”

“If that is what you’re looking for, why exactly am I here? I can’t see or feel that connection on your behalf.”

“Maybe not, but by your own admission, you can read and feel when a sub is true and real. That’s why you’re here, subbie. To sift through the sand and find me that one gold nugget.”

“You’re selling yourself short, Sir. I believe you can read and feel what’s real better than I can.” She shrugged. “But since you’re paying me a fat lot of money, who am I to complain?”

“Indeed.” He smiled broadly. “I suggest you take a nap. I’m going to require your wife whispering duties from around lunchtime till sunrise tomorrow morning.”

This time, she didn’t even pretend to be polite. “Freaking rotten rat’s ass.” She tossed the words over her shoulder as she stomped further into the house. “I hope you packed a suitcase full of blue pills, old man. I would hate to doze off mid-snore fest.”

Cooper’s unapologetic laughter cut through the air, but Rex’s voice followed her like a shadow, in a dry and amused tone that visually grated on her nerves if he read the glare correctly. His confidence was undeniable.

“Never fear, little hellion,” he drawled, “I’ll make sure you’re thoroughly entertained.”
