Chapter 41 Derrick
DERRICK
Evan: It’s go time.
Oh my god. I’m going to be an uncle again. Sienna’s been rushed to the hospital to have her baby. I can’t wait to see that little one and squish his face.
Derrick: Sienna’s been rushed to hospital.
Stacey: OMG!
Derrick: It’s happening.
Vanessa: I just woke up from a nap. I’m so excited.
Derrick: We will have four babies now in the Dirty Texas family.
Stacey: Ten bucks Axel knock Olivia up next.
Derrick: That seems like a given. Have you heard from Isla?
Stacey: No. She says she’s busy working but can’t wait to catch up.
Derrick: Is everything okay with her, she seems very quiet lately.
Stacey: I think so, but she has been distant, even Oscar has mentioned it.
Vanessa: You think Finn is going to freak when he sees her again?
Stacey: Probably, he’s been a dick since she left.
Vanessa: He was heartbroken. Men do stupid shit.
Stacey: Not an excuse, to declare your feelings for someone and then go and fuck all of New York.
Derrick: Kind of what Christian did.
Vanessa: Yeah. But look how things turned out. If Chris and I can get over that blip those two can.
Derrick: Pregnancy has softened you.
Vanessa: I wouldn’t have had this life if I didn’t take a risk. Finn needs to take the risk, or he will lose her forever.
Stacey: Her moving halfway across the world should have been a wake-up call.
Derrick: He’s terrified of Oscar.
Stacey: Oscar?
Derrick: Yes. The man who was blackmailing Finn.
Stacey: What?
Vanessa: Blackmailing?
Derrick: I’ve said too much but, Stace, ask your boyfriend about it. Because he is a big obstacle between the two of them.
Vanessa: D, that seems a little harsh.
Derrick: It’s not.
Stacey: Oscar is overprotective, but I can’t imagine he would hurt them like that. He knows they’ve hooked up in the past and hasn’t said anything.
Derrick: Look, I’ve said too much, but ask him subtly about it.
Stacey: Derrick?
Derrick: I can’t say anything more.
Vanessa: So today there’s going to be a problem at the hospital?
I feel bad for mentioning things earlier in the text with Vanessa and Stacey, but if anyone can get Oscar to back off from Finn, it’s her. Not that I’m playing matchmaker or anything, but maybe this time it might be different when they see each other again.
I make my way into the hospital, I’m the first person outside of her parents to arrive.
“SiSi.” I gasp as I rush over and hug her, she looks like a glowing princess.
“Derrick,” she says in tears as I hug her.
“You did good, Mama,” I tell her.
“He’s so perfect, D.”
“Let me see my new nephew.”
“He’s here,” Evan says, holding the little bundle in his arms.
“He’s gorgeous, guys,” I gush.
“He’s perfect.” Evan sighs, looking down at him.
“What did you call him?”
“Levi,” Evan answers.
Oh, my goodness, little Levi. My little Levi. You are going to be so loved, my little man. “You’re creating your own rock band with those names.”
“Dirty Texas 2.0.” Evan chuckles.
“No. My boys will not be womanizing rock stars,” Sienna adds.
“Hey, I turned out fine,” Evan says.
“Took you a bit, but you did,” I tease.
“You want to hold him, Uncle D?” Evan asks.
As if he ever has to ask. I hold out my arms for the little bundle. He is perfect with pouty heart-shaped lips.
Christian and Vanessa walk in minus the twins, a rare moment by themselves. Greetings and well-wishes are shared.
“Congrats, man,” Christian says, slapping Evan on the back.
“Thanks, you’re looking like shit,” Evan teases back.
“FU. Babies don’t stop screaming.” Christian sighs.
“Yep, and you have two to feed all at once.” Evan shivers at the thought.
“I’m so glad our mothers stayed. I don’t know how we’re going to cope when they are gone. I want them to stay until they are potty trained.”
Evan bursts out laughing.
“What did you name your little dude?” Christian asks
“He is Levi. Levi Wyld,” Evan states proudly.
Levi takes that moment to start fussing, and I hand him back over to Sienna.
“Congratulations,” Stacey says, walking into the room next with Oscar and Finn, and a large bouquet of flowers for Sienna. “He’s so cute,” Stacey says, looking down at little Levi in Sienna’s arms.
“He’s perfect, isn’t he?” Sienna gushes.
“Isla texted me. She’s arrived,” Stacey says, aiming that statement directly at me after our talk earlier. Finn stiffens, hearing Isla’s name.
“Can’t wait to see her,” Oscar says excitedly as he puts his arm around Stacey’s shoulders. The Viking is getting better at public displays of affection, especially around the Dirty Texas family.
The creak of the suite door alerts us to more arrivals.
“Sorry I’m late, my plane just arrived,” Isla says, entering the room, hand in hand with Sebastien. Are they dating? No. Isla said they had a one-night stand, but it does seem very … um … cozy.
“What the fuck?” Finn whispers as he grimaces, watching Isla and Sebastien walk in together, looking happy.
What the hell is she wearing? My eyes narrow as I take in the hideously ugly outfit.
Paris is chic, this is not. Girl, I need to get you to the boutique and style you, stat.
I watch as they walk in together and the way the kaftan flows over her …
No! I stare in shock because now I realize why she is wearing this fugly outfit. Isla is fucking pregnant.
Shit, is it Sebastien’s?
Why the hell did she not tell us?
Am I hallucinating?
“Holy shit, you’re pregnant.” The words are out of my mouth before I’ve realized what I am saying.
And she’s not a little pregnant, we are talking about a full-on baby baking in that oven.
She must be at least six months pregnant.
An uneasy tension now fills the room. Shit! All eyes land on Isla and Sebastien.
“You’re pregnant?” Oscar asks angrily, taking a couple of steps toward his sister. Stacey tries to stop him, but I think that horse has bolted.
“You seriously thought you could disguise yourself in that hideous outfit?” I try to defuse the situation with humor.
It was not received well. Everyone is frozen in shock, it’s like our eyes can see what is in front of us, but our brains aren’t computing.
Finn looks the most shocked, with Oscar a close second.
“Sienna, Evan … congratulations,” Sebastien says, trying to change the subject as he hands them some flowers.
“Issy, are you pregnant?” Oscar asks, moving closer to her.
“Yes,” she whispers as a single tear falls down her cheek.
I can’t believe she just confirmed it. Here I thought Axel and Olivia were going to be the next to add to the Dirty Texas brood, I never thought in my life it would be Isla.
Who the hell is the baby daddy? Must be Sebastien’s, that’s why they have shown up together looking all lovey-dovey.
Oh, this has to be devastating for Finn, and when I look over to where he is standing in the corner, he looks devastated.
“Excuse me.” Finn suddenly bolts from the room.
Isla looks torn as she watches him leave. Everyone else is confused because things just got messed up.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Oscar asks, sounding more hurt and confused than angry, which is good because now is not the time for the Viking to lose his shit.
“Because …” Isla pauses for a moment to catch her breath. “Because I was ashamed. It was a one-night stand. A mistake.”
Why would she say that if Seb’s the father?
He’s standing right there. My brows pull together as I look between Sebastien and Isla, but what I see is protectiveness from Seb, not hurt that she called their pregnancy a mistake.
Wait. Unless he isn’t the father. Fuck. Little Ragnar, what the hell have you been doing in Spain?
She looks six months pregnant, so when would that have been?
I calculate back and still as the realization hits me.
Did she get knocked up at Vanessa and Christian’s wedding?
Having gone through this with Sienna in Paris when she found out she was pregnant with Ryder, I learned that it goes from when you had your last period, not conception, and that’s why I think she got knocked up at the wedding.
Fuck. It’s Finn’s baby. She told me they hooked up because Finn finally confessed his secret.
Oh my god! No one else knows they hooked up. Shit. Shit. Shit.
“I’m still your brother,” Oscar tells her.
“I know, I just …”
“Do Mom and Dad know?” Oscar continues to question her. Isla shakes her head. “So, you have kept this from all of us for what, the past four or five months?”
No shit. She’s kept it from all of us because your bestie knocked up your little sister, and my poor little princess probably didn’t know what to do, she was far from home.
If Sebastien didn’t get this TV show, would she ever have told us that she was having a baby?
Was she just going to pop it out in Spain and never tell us? What the hell was your game plan, Isla?
“It was easier.”
“Easier for who?”
Isla is crying now. “It was a shock. It wasn’t planned … I …”
“Were you ever going to tell us? Or would you have turned up one day saying, ‘Oh, by the way, Oscar, here is your niece or nephew?’”
“Nephew, it’s a boy,” Isla quickly adds.
Oh shit. She even knows what she is having. I feel bad that she’s going through all this by herself. We should have been there to share in her excitement, just like we all were for Sienna and Vanessa. This is not how you’re supposed to start the happiest moment of your life.
“You’re having a boy?” Oscar asks. Isla bursts out crying, unable to control her emotions any longer. “Shit, Issy.” Her brother comforts her.
“I’m sorry, I am so sorry I didn’t tell you.”
Oscar reassures her. “Shh, it’s going to be okay. You’re home, and it’s going to be all okay.”
“I’m not staying. My life is in Europe, not here.”
“What? Are you seriously going back to Europe when you’re about to pop out a child?” Oscar asks angrily.
“I’ve hit five months, Oscar. I’m only halfway,” Isla states.
