Chapter 41 Derrick #2
“Oh shit, it was a wedding baby,” my mouth again speaks before my brain can shut it down.
Isla glares at me. “Sorry.” I knew it. So, it’s Finn’s, holy shit.
Holy shit. I start freaking out, but no one else is freaking out or connecting the dots except Stacey, who turns and looks at me, her eyes as wide as my own.
“Is this true?” Oscar asks her.
“I’m not answering that, it doesn’t matter.
What matters now is that we’re here to celebrate Evan and Sienna, not me and my drama.
” She turns her back on her brother, essentially putting an end to the conversation.
“Sorry about this,” Isla tells Sienna and Evan as she stares at little Levi in Sienna’s arms. This is going to be her in a couple of months.
Oscar storms out of the room, and Stacey is right on his heels.
“I’m sorry I brought my drama to your special day,” Isla says, bursting into tears. Sebastien wraps a protective arm around her, at least she has had some support during this time.
“Congratulations, Is. You’re having a baby. Did you hear that, Levi? You’re going to have a new friend to play with very soon,” Sienna coos to her baby.
“And the twins will have another friend,” Vanessa adds as Isla continues to cry.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you all … it was …” She hiccups through her tears.
“You owe us nothing,” I reassure her. “I can’t imagine how hard it has been for you.”
“I couldn’t have done this without Seb,” she says, looking up at him fondly.
“It’s what friends do,” he tells her. Aw. That’s sweet. I’m glad she’s had him and he’s been that supportive.
“Are you staying?” Vanessa asks.
“I have meetings here about a TV show. If they go well, then I’ll be moving to LA,” Sebastien explains.
“And if not, are you moving back to Spain?” I ask Isla.
“It’s my home and where my job is,” Isla adds.
“You can have your job back here if you want. You would be close to family,” Christian adds.
Isla gives him a small smile. “I haven’t thought that far ahead yet.”
“I’ll support whatever decision she makes,” Sebastien says.
“We all miss you,” I tell Isla.
Tears well in her eyes. “I miss you guys too.”
“You’re having a boy?” Sienna asks, changing the subject.
“I know.” Isla smiles, rubbing her belly.
“Levi and he are going to be the best of friends.” Sienna smiles.
“Watch out, looks like the girls could have another suitor,” I tease Christian and Vanessa.
“Now you can have the joy of your son being set up with the twins.” Evan groans.
“It would be cute. All three of us could be in-laws together,” Vanessa says excitedly, which makes Isla laugh.
Seb whispers something in Isla’s ear, and she reassures him that she is going to be okay. “Sorry, guys, I have to run. I have some meetings to go to. Sienna, Evan, congratulations on your beautiful boy. Isla, I’ll see you later,” he says, kissing her cheek before disappearing.
“And Sebastien isn’t the father?” Vanessa asks. Isla shakes her head. “Such a shame, you would have gorgeous kids.”
“He’s been a blessing I didn’t know I needed,” Isla states.
“We would have been there for you,” Vanessa tells you.
“I was in shock. I had no idea. Still, I can’t believe it’s happening to me,” she says, rubbing her belly.
“You shouldn’t have had to go through this alone. We would never have judged you,” Sienna tells her.
“Thanks. I haven’t handled it well, but I honestly didn’t know what to do. I was so far from home, and …”
“None of that matters now, you’re having a little boy and you’re here with us,” Vanessa tells her.
“Thank you, guys. I don’t feel like I deserve it.”
I shake my head and walk over to hug her. Isla seems so fragile, and I don’t blame her. “Now that your secret is out, can we please dispose of this hideous outfit?”
Isla bursts out laughing. “I knew you would hate it.”
“This isn’t a cute pregnancy look, please let me dress you. Now the cat is out of the bag, you need to be wearing that belly proudly.”
“You can’t say no to Derrick styling you. He will just keep asking until he wears you down,” Vanessa warns her. She’s not wrong.
“Fine. D, you can dress me.”
I clap with delight. “You are going to be the cutest pregnant woman.”
“This pregnant woman has had too much excitement for one day, I think I need a lie down.”
“Get as much sleep as you can now because once baby comes, you will never sleep again,” Christin advises her.
“I’ll walk you out if you want?” I tell her. She nods and says her goodbyes, as do I.
“Don’t say it, D,” Isla says as soon as we are alone.
“He is going to be hurt when you tell him.”
“I know.”
“He’s missed half a year of his baby growing.”
“Derrick, I know this, while I was throwing up every morning, he was out there fucking who knows who. He didn’t give a shit about me,” Isla tells me angrily.
“He was a dick. I get it. But keeping something this huge from him isn’t the same.” Tears fall down Isla’s cheeks. “Hey, I’m not having a go at you.”
“I fucked up. I know this. What’s done is done now. I’m going to fix it, though, D. Seeing him today made my heartache, and then when he stormed out of the hospital room and how angry he was … I’ll tell him. He will probably hate me for it, but I can’t keep this from him anymore.”
“We are all here for you, don’t forget that,” I remind her.
“Thanks. I’m going to need you, when Oscar finds out he’s going to kill him.”
“Probably. But don’t forget your brother hasn’t been so innocent in all this either. You probably wouldn’t have been in this mess if he wasn’t so overbearing,” I tell her.
“There’s no one to blame but myself.”
“And Finn, because it takes two people to make a baby.”
Isla nods.
I walk her to the taxi area and help her into the car. “I love you. You’ve got this. Call me if you need me, and I’ll be there.”
“Thanks, D,” she says as I shut the door and wave her goodbye.
She’s going to need all the luck she can get because that is going to be one hard conversation to have with Finn.
Things are about to explode.
