CHAPTER TWENTY
Levi
“What can I do to help you?” Felicity asks me softly.
“You’re already doing it.” I sniffle as I hold onto her.
We walk back upstairs and outside to where Leighton and Lynton are. They both come over to us and hug me.
“It’s okay to cry, even if it’s over them, Levi. We’re going to heal from this together. And we have a new family to help us get through it all,” Leighton says to me.
I nod and hug both of them. “I know I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the two of you.”
“I don’t know if any of us would be here if we didn’t have each other,” Lynton says to me.
“Well, that’s something we don’t have to wonder about. It’s always been the three of us and it always will be,” Leighton adds.
“Leigh, you need to know that Marcia said that you need to watch Davis. She said someday he might not be here. I tried to get her to tell me what that meant, but she wouldn’t tell me.”
Leighton screams for her husband, Valentino. He comes running over.
“What the fuck,” he pants as he looks at all of us.
“Tell him what you just said,” she says to me.
I tell him everything Marcia said to me about Davis.
“Fuck. Now I know who Lorraine is. Felicity said that when your parents showed up at the motel, they mentioned a Lorraine. It didn’t really hit me then, but I get it now—” Valentino says.
“Kayla’s mother. Fuck.” Leighton frowns. “So wait. Are you saying you think this was about Davis too?”
“I do. I think that Tyler and Marcia are working with Lorraine. Marcia said that they were trading us to the cartel for wiping their debt. And Lorraine wanted to sell Davis before. It makes sense. They were going to turn all of us over to them. Or they were going to use Davis as a ransom to get our Lake Renegade family to pay them. When I met them in the parking lot, they talked about Enea and how they knew who he was,” I tell them.
I can see the anger in Valentino’s and my sisters’ faces.
“Maybe we should talk to the council and ask them to give all of them to the cartel instead,” I suggest.
“I’m sure that’s being discussed right now. Don’t worry, if you want to know what happens, you need to ask. They’ll tell you if you ask, but if you don’t want to know? Don’t ask,” Valentino says.
“Oh, I definitely want to fucking know,” Leighton says as Lynton and I nod.
Felicity
When Levi came out of the room after talking to Marcia, I could see the pain in his eyes.
I wanted to beat Marcia for doing that to him.
Who the fuck does she think she is? And to think they might’ve been planning to sell Davis…
he’s an innocent baby. Leighton told me what happened last Christmas.
Kayla Moss was Leighton’s best friend and a sister to Lynton and Levi.
When Kayla died, she gave custody of her baby, Davis, to Leighton.
Lorraine is Kayla’s mom and she ended up coming after Davis.
She didn’t come after him because she loved him, she didn’t even know him.
She did it so she could sell him. And she almost got away with it.
Knowing that she was part of this whole situation makes me sick.
And hearing Levi and his sisters talk about what their parents said to them?
I can’t even imagine how they’re feeling.
My parents were the most loving people I knew and I know that if they were alive today, they would embrace Levi and his sisters without any hesitation.
I wish they were here to help me comfort Levi.
“Sebastiano and Francesco are getting any information they can about Lorraine. And Salvatore just called and said he’s got his guys working on the cartel.
They’re not going to let anyone hurt any of you.
But for now, Enea says none of you are to go anywhere alone.
Noah and Eros will be with Felicity. Apollo and Alfonzo will be with you, Levi.
We know that you’ll be headed back to Japan soon and they’ll go with you.
They’ll have their own place, we found one next door to you,” Ares tells us.
“How long will we have them with us?” I ask.
“Until the council feels you’re safe.”
I should’ve known that our Lake Renegade family would have a plan for us.
“Got room for more in that group hug?” I turn and see my brothers, their wives and all the kids.
I burst out crying. I can’t believe they’re all here.
“Oh god. Don’t cry,” Rhett says to me as he sniffles.
My brothers grab Levi in a group hug.
“I’m sure you know this, but I feel like it needs to be said since I’m the oldest. Welcome to the family. And if you hurt Felicity, I’ll bribe the Lake Renegade family to help make you disappear.”
Everyone laughs as there’s more hugging going on. I know my parents would be so proud of who we’ve all become. I know I am.
