Chapter 6

Chapter Six

Jett

“Jett, should we order lunch?” Brennan propped himself up on one elbow as we lay on the bed in the massive villa at the fancy beachside hotel.

“Yes, please. I need to look through some things as well. I’m going to be owing favors to Cam and Lexi forever.

Not to mention all the time off I’m using.

At least everyone at the station understands.

” My boss was pretty lenient with us needing off for pack emergencies as long as we could cover our shifts.

I reached over and smoothed Brennan’s dark hair. With how much had been going on over the past couple of days, it was nice to have this time alone.

“Well, hopefully we can bring Spencer home to Rockland tomorrow. If not, I’ll send you back along with Riley, and whoever else needs to go home,” Brennan said.

“Sounds good. Though I’m enjoying this right now. What do you want to eat? We should order something for Grace, too.” I glanced at the clock. Everyone else was at the hospital with Spencer. Grace was asleep in one of the rooms downstairs.

“Yeah.” His brow furrowed, and conflict flowed through the bond.

“Now what? Regretting how much you ended up paying for that Theodosia doll?” I teased, gazing up into his blue eyes. Never did I expect to see Brennan Morris get into an online bidding war for a doll.

He shook his head. “Her doll needs a working piano. Um…”

I propped myself up on my elbow, leaning in so we were nose to nose. “What?”

“When she took that nap on my cock she, um… she called me a good boy, and I liked it.” Brennan frowned.

Oh? He hadn’t mentioned that when he told me about it.

“You are a good boy.” I leaned in and gave him a kiss.

“But her good boy?” His brows furrowed. More conflict poured through the bond.

Oh, Bren. It was quite amusing watching him fall for her.

I kissed his wrinkled brows. “Is it any different from her–or Evan–telling you that you’re a good alpha? I’d love for her to call me a good boy as I fuck her against the wall with my hand around her throat like in one of her novels.”

Grinning, I remembered having her on the chaise lounge in the cabana.

“I still don’t know if she remembered doing it, or not. She never said anything. But, if you put it that way.” He rolled over, taking me down to the bed with him, his nose touching mine, blue eyes alight with mischief and desire.

“Yeah?” I waggled my eyebrows, getting his need and want, both in his scent and through our bond.

“Always.” Brennan’s mouth crushed mine.

Brennan’s phone rang. It was Terrance’s ring.

“Leave it.” My arms wrapped around him, pulling him closer as if I could unite our souls even more than they were already.

From the moment I pulled him out of the wrecked car, I knew that he was my alpha. Even when he annoyed or infuriated me, he was still my other half; what kept my heart beating. I put all that into my kiss.

“I’ll call him later.” Brennan straddled me, lips still locked.

Feeling playful, I rocked my body, flipping us over. “Pinned you.”

“Oh, that’s how it’s going to be?” He laughed.

That’s how it always was. I laughed as he flipped us over again, getting close to the edge of the comfortable, alpha-sized hotel bed.

The phone rang again.

“Ugh.” Brennan shot it a look.

Using the distraction, I rolled us back to the center of the bed and pinned his arms over his head.

“You can call him later.” I rested my forehead on his.

“I thought that we were going to order lunch?” He grinned boyishly, his desire filling the room.

I grinned back. “You started it.”

Once again, his phone rang.

“I should get that.” He groaned. “I’ll make it up to you.”

“You always do. Go.” I unpinned him.

He rolled over and grabbed his phone. “Terrance, what’s wrong?”

Pulling on some shorts, I grabbed my laptop and went downstairs. Using the console in the kitchen, I ordered lunch for me, him, and Grace. The door to the room she was in stayed closed.

She’d been through a lot. Not to mention, Evan and Wes had given her quite the workout earlier. Then again, I’m sure she needed it.

Actually, she probably needed Spencer, and I’m surprised she hadn’t just helped herself to his cock. She’d be careful of his injuries.

Hmmm, maybe I could orchestrate some alone time for her later. Part of the issue could be that Wes was pretty much always with her. Sure, I understood that, but she probably wanted some privacy.

Grabbing a beer from the fridge, I opened my laptop and went back to analyzing everything that we’d found on Adriana and her science terrorists.

While Adriana had admitted to knowing that the extremists were targeting Elaris at the conference where she’d died, she was adamant that she didn’t know they’d kill her. She also wouldn’t name names.

Spencer had amassed some information on them. I’d also gotten some of my own. We weren’t sure if the police would pursue a closed case that had been ruled a vehicular accident. However, Spencer getting justice for Elaris was important, so maybe we’d find something that would get the case re-opened.

And this organization shut down. They were a menace and were probably impeding scientific progress with their protests and fear-mongering.

I continued working until the scent of annoyed pine permeated the kitchen. Brennan, in only some shorts, took the open bottle of bourbon, poured himself a glass and sat down with me.

“What happened? More issues with the estate? Did another team quit?” I closed my laptop so that I could give him my full attention.

“My mother has discovered that I now own the building she needs. I have her blocked, so when I wouldn’t answer her, she stormed my offices and pitched a bitch fit, demanding that I give it to her.” Brennan had a drink.

“Even I know it’s not how business works. You’re going to propose a trade, right?” I took a sip of my beer.

He nodded. “The papers are already drawn up. Our lawyer is sending it to her now. My father texted me saying that I should call and talk to her, but I’m just going to go through the lawyers.”

“Good. Also, does she not know that Spencer’s in the hospital?” I frowned. It had been international news.

“Oh, she does. She tried to get Ian Murphy’s case for trying to keep my inheritance away from me dismissed, thinking that I’d be so preoccupied I’d miss her sneaky bullshit.

She also tried to get my permits cancelled.

Again. Thank fuck for Terrance. Oh, my brother has informed me that I’m officially off the Morris Family Foundation board. ” His scent went salty with sadness.

Reaching over, I squeezed his bare shoulder. “I know how much it meant to you. But we have our own foundation now. Since you no longer have to go to parties, you could use that time to do things for it.”

“I was thinking that Evan and I would probably be the more involved members of the family. Grace and Spencer have a lot of ideas, and we’re going to need more than an admin to take care of things.

I didn’t realize Spencer was already moving forward with the science scholarships.

But that makes sense. Just like Grace wanting them to have allowances.

The names she came up with for the scholarships are a little pretentious, but why not.

” Brennan swirled the amber liquid in the glass.

“I thought they were cute. Also, we’re the Thanukos Family Foundation. We already sound pretentious.” I took another sip of beer. I liked the names. “We’re going through with our name changes, right? As much as I enjoy being Officer Morris, being Officer Thanukos is going to be fun.”

“Yes. I’m looking forward to no longer being a Morris,” Brennan agreed. “Did you order food?”

“I did. It should be here soon. Should we wake Grace?” I looked at the clock.

“I’m awake. Why did you let me sleep so long?” Grace stood there, in only one of Evan’s shirts, pouting, arms crossed over her chest.

“You needed to sleep, Little Butterfly. You’ve barely left Spencer’s side.” Brennan opened his arms, and she crawled onto his lap. He started playing with the back of her neck the way she liked.

“That’s what a good mate does.” Her scent went salty.

“You’re a wonderful mate, Peaches,” I praised, scooting closer, so she was on both of our laps. “We ordered lunch, so we’ll eat, shower, dress, and go back.”

“Okay. Bren?” She hiccupped.

“Yes, Grace?”

“I’m sorry if I pushed your boundaries or took advantage of you. Evan told me what happened that first night. I’m so embarrassed that I don’t remember.” She kept her face buried, scent filled with regret.

“If I didn’t want to comfort you, I would have said no and had Evan take over. I’m glad that you feel safe with me. It means everything. Also, you were probably high from whatever they gave you,” he soothed.

High? Yeah, on hormones. They’d shot her up so good I was surprised she hadn’t gone into heat.

They might call her a gamma, but there was something very omega-like in her. That part of her knew exactly what she was doing crawling on Brennan’s cock and calling him a good boy. I liked that Peaches very much.

Also, I was happy that their relationship was growing. Between his trauma and their rocky start, I hadn’t been sure.

“Okay.” She sighed as he continued to stroke the back of her neck.

There was a knock on the door. I stood. “There’s lunch.”

I went over to the front door. Signing for our food, I pushed the cart into the kitchen and put out the food as Brennan just sat there, holding her.

That was too fucking cute.

While some of our fantasies would probably always remain just that, I think we both needed Grace in our lives. Her gentleness evened us out a little. Also, now I really wanted to hear her call Brennan a good boy–he needed reminding of that now and then.

“I just got us all burgers, since sadly the hotel’s spicy noodles are not up to expectations.” I uncovered the plates. Burger with fries for me–onion rings for those two.

“Thank you.” Grace didn’t move from Brennan’s lap.

Like most alphas, he seemed to have the ability to fully function with someone on his lap–even someone the size of Evan.

“If you have work to do, I can wait a little bit before we go back. I have a bunch of things to synthesize from the conference and send to my co-worker.” Grace shoved an onion ring in her mouth.

“I just need a little bit of time to deal with some things with the lawyers. It won’t take too long,” Brennan assured her.

“Okay.”

I wasn’t sure if they were Queen Mum things, work things, estate things, or Grace things. The nurse that locked her in the room had been fired and was going to the Nursing Review Board. Katie was having a great time going after the hospital.

“Peaches, later, if you’d like, I’ll get everyone out of the hospital–even Wes–so that you can spend some time with Spencer.” I bit into my burger.

“Really?” Her eyes lit up.

Yep. I knew it.

“Really,” I assured. “Bren, should we take everyone out for a nice dinner or something?”

“Spencer took me on a sunset dinner cruise. What about that–or maybe sunset whale watching? Are there whales here?” Grace took a drink of beer.

“Sunset whale watching followed by dinner sounds like an excellent idea. There are humpbacks here,” Brennan said. “We’ll bring food back for you.”

“That sounds good. I’ll book something after we finish eating,” I told them.

Yeah, I’d absolutely go whale watching so that Grace could have some hospital sex with Spencer. After all, that’s what packs were for.

And I was glad that she was part of this one.
