Chapter 36

“You’re sure I can’t talk you into it? There’re so many sweet cars and a ton of cash on the line.

You could race three times. Thirty seconds in your ride.

And you’d be setting yourself up for a couple more years.

” Bruno—her contact who sold the cars she won and didn’t want to keep—had been going on for several minutes since Flynn had said she wasn’t going to Atlantic City this weekend.

Marcus watched her across the counter as he stood shirtless, hands on the Formica as he silently listened to Bruno’s voice coming from the speaker.

“I’m good, Bruno. I’m out. I’m done. I don’t need the money. I don’t need another car. I’ve got everything I need.”

“Just like that?”

She decided to give him the truth. “I met somebody.”

“Fuck, and this dick won’t let you race?”

Marcus crossed his arms over his chest, and she was amazed he managed to stay silent, but he said nothing.

“It’s not like that. I just … I’m ready to settle down. Start a family. I don’t want to fuck that up for money or a thrill.”

“Well, shit.” Bruno breathed out the words with a whistle. “I never thought I’d hear you say that. Fuck me. The Black Widow with babies. I guess anything can happen. Huh. Go figure. All right, Flynn. I hear you loud and clear. You don’t need me to call you anymore.”

“I’ll still call you if I need to move a car.”

“You do that, girl. I’ll be around. I ain’t going nowhere.”

“Thanks for understanding, B.”

He laughed. “Love makes people do crazy shit. Good for you, kid. Be happy.”

“I am. And I’m going to stay that way.”

“Later.” He ended the call.

Marcus uncrossed his arms. “You sure? I don’t want you to resent me for this.”

Flynn shook her head as she stood and rounded the kitchen counter. “I already told you, it’s an easy choice.”

His dark brown gaze met hers. “Still?”

She knew he meant because she didn’t have the money she’d thought she would.

“It’ll always be an easy choice with you.” She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned up to kiss him. “I choose you. I choose us. I choose whatever the future holds for us together.”

“Thank God, because the future has never looked brighter than it does with you in my life. I love you, Flynn. I want to marry you. Have babies with you. Grow old with you. All of it.”

She swallowed as her eyes welled with tears of joy. “Yes. To all of that. With you.”
