Epilogue
“It’s a girl. Definitely a girl,” Zoe said, staring at Flynn’s rounded belly, tossing her money in the hat.
“Boy. Totally a boy,” Carrie said, tossing a dollar in.
Scarlett tossed in her bet. “Girl. Q deserves girls.”
Dani smiled. “Definitely a girl.”
Joanie refused to bet. “I don’t care. Healthy is all that matters. Now, let’s open presents and eat cake. My new daughter-in-law requested three.”
Flynn laid a hand on her giant belly and smiled at the rock glinting on her left hand. She could buy a decent car with it, she guessed. Not that she would ever trade it in.
“I feel like you offered three, and I just said yes.”
“You’re just so dang cute pregnant. How couldn’t I?”
“She’s going to spoil you, and then once that baby comes, you’ll be wondering where it is all the time because Ma will keep borrowing him or her,” Dani said.
Joanie’s grin lit the room. “My baby boy is finally giving me grandbabies. Thank you, Jesus.”
Flynn had never had such a loving mother in her life, ever, and now she had one on the same property. Joanie was amazing.
She started to get choked up, just thinking about how wonderful life had been since the first day she’d come home with Marcus for Sunday dinner.
Sure, it had been a whirlwind of a year, but she couldn’t have planned it better if she’d tried.
Well, except the bit about her mom being in jail, facing fraud charges and being denied bond for being a flight risk after one of Gabe’s contacts located her in Tonga and somehow persuaded her to return to the States.
But that didn’t have anything to do with her.
“This is going to be the luckiest kid in the whole world,” Flynn said, rubbing her big belly. “He or she won’t know anything but love. Does it get any better than that?”
Joanie met her gaze. “No, sweetheart. It sure doesn’t.”
A knock came at the door.
“You finish all that women-only baby-shower stuff? Because I miss my beautiful wife, and we heard a rumor about three cakes that Pop wants to verify,” Marcus called as he opened the screen door.
His dark brown gaze locked on her. “There she is. Mother of my child. Hey, baby, I missed you.” He came toward her and kissed her forehead.
“I missed you too. You guys have fun?”
They’d gone golfing.
“Not nearly as much fun as I have with you.”
“Hey, I heard that,” Pop said as he came inside.
“Sorry, Pop. It’s the truth.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I’d rather hang out with your ma than you, if we’re being real, kid. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.”
“Cake and presents, and then you can take her home,” Joanie said.
Marcus smiled down at her. “Sounds like a plan. What kind do you want, baby? I’ll get it for you.”
Flynn smiled. “I’ve already got everything I need.”
“One of each then it is. Because you deserve it all, Flynn. You’re my dream come true.”
