12. Chapter Twelve
Chapter Twelve
Victoria
I don’t remember much as I’m being placed back into the cell I’ve been in since I got here. I vaguely remember feeling fingers going through my hair and being made to sip some water before I curled into myself. I know I’m in shock.
Everything that’s happened is beginning to catch up to me. I know I’ve got to shake myself out of it. I can't let them win. Blinking a few times, I see Jasper kneeling in front of me with a water bottle. I'm not sure when Elijah left.
“Snapping out of it I take it, are we?” Jasper asks, raising an eyebrow at me as he moves to sit down next to me. He holds out a water bottle to me and I pause, looking at the bottle, debating what might happen if I was to fling it at his face…
“Don’t even think about it.” I snap my eyes from the bottle to Jasper, who has his piercing blue eyes trained on me. I froze at the look, not moving a muscle.
“Take the drink but don’t waste it.” I can hear the edge to his voice and slowly reach out, taking the bottle, opening it and taking a tentative sip. This seems to appease Jasper as he gives me a small grin.
“I was beginning to wonder if we broke you. It’s good to see that you’re still functioning.” The way he talks about me makes it sound like I’m nothing more than a toy, like a doll. Then again, he might not classify me as a human like he is, since he’s use to death and probably killing others.
“What? Cat got your tongue?” Jasper asks, in a voice that’s almost taunting. He looks me over as he plays with one of the handful of the necklaces he has on.
“Not broken. Just tired,” I whisper. Taking another small sip of water, my eyes never leave Jasper. He watches every move I make. It’s unnerving to say the least. I’ve never had someone watch me like this. As if he’s trying to physically dissect me with his eyes.
“If you say so. You’re definitely stronger than the others that have come through here.” Jasper speaking up makes me look at him. He has his head tilted to the side, causing some of his hair to fall over one of his eyes. If he hadn’t been a kidnapper, I would say he’s a handsome guy.
“Thank you?” I say with a skeptical level of uncertainty. I don’t know how to read Jasper. He keeps throwing me off with his comments.
“Grandfather said you’d be a good fit, I can see what he means.” Leaning back a bit, Jasper’s eyes darken, as a small frown takes over his face. “Though, I do wonder if you’ll be able to handle all four of us.” His frown is quickly replaced with a smirk, and his eyes almost seem to glow in the low light of the room. Sucking in a breath, I try looking away, but I seem to be unable to.
He moves so quickly that he catches me off guard and the next thing I know my body hits the cold cement floor, with his body pressing into mine. One of Jasper’s hands wrap around my neck, while the other hand grabs my wrists, pinning them above my head.
“I do wonder if you will be able to see us for more than monsters. I know our mother had a hard time at first, even after we were all born.” He leans down so our noses brush, before giving my cheek a kiss. I can see his dark blue eyes catch my own, before a feral grin takes over his face.
“Contrary to what you think, I don’t want a doll. I want someone who’ll fight with me. Someone who will bathe in blood and enjoy the hunt.” I stay as still as I can. Feeling his weight shift on me, I yelp as his teeth sink into my shoulder. Clenching my teeth together, even as my body jerks against him trying to get him off me.
I can feel his teeth sinking harder into me before finally releasing me and pulling back. His grip on my neck and wrists tightens as he looks down at me. He has blood dripping down the side of his mouth, using his tongue he licks around his own mouth.
“You do taste ‘ divine’.” He mutters, eyes half lidded as his smile is one of pure lust, “I bet you taste just as good everywhere.” This part was muttered softly, making my body freeze and look at him in horror.
I can see the amusement on his face as he leans back down, “Don’t worry. If it ever goes that far, you’ll definitely be a willing participant.” A shudder goes through me as I feel his hot breath by my ear.
“And if I never want to be a willing participant…?” I bit out, anger going through me at the thought of them touching me makes me want to vomit. I want a voice and I know I don't have a lot of choice on being here and fighting for my life. But if there was a way to escape down the road…I’m going to take it.
The dark chuckle he releases next to my ear as he pulls back, sends a shiver down my spine. Looking me in the eyes, “Then you’ll be our caged bird until you give in.” His grip on my neck tightens one more time before releasing me, pulling back and standing up. He leaves me lying on the floor. Taking a few seconds I sit up, as Jasper’s looking down at me with clear amusement.
“I think I’ll call you my little sparrow from now on.” Jasper laughs as he sees the disgruntled expression that takes over my face. Rubbing my neck before moving my hand to the spot he bit, I wince in pain. The bite mark is still bleeding as I can see blood on my hand from simply touching it.
“Did all the past wives of the family give in?” I ask, trying to keep my temper out of my voice. I know I’m unsuccessful by the look on Jasper’s face.
“They did give in eventually. My brothers and myself were born…weren’t we? As well as our cousins.” He crouches down, letting his fingers brush over the bite wound before pulling his hand back with blood on his fingers. He grins as he licks the blood off each finger, making me shudder in disgust.
‘What the fuck… .’ I know he’s unhinged…but liking the taste of blood was a new level of crazy I have never come across before.
“Do you usually bite the girls that are brought here?” I ask, as my temper starts to flare to life. I’m not a damsel in distress or a weeping girl who would willingly take their mistreatment like this. I'm more than willing to bite him back.
He brings his hand close to my head in order to tuck a piece of stray hair behind my ear. He moves his hand so his thumb is caressing my cheek, “you are a bit different. You definitely act different than them.” I narrow my eyes, and I decide to do something completely impulsive. I don’t know how he’ll react, but fair is fair.
My hand shot out and grabbing his arm, bringing his wrist to my mouth, I bit down as hard as he did until I tasted blood in my mouth. I quickly pulled back, spitting the blood out, as I glare at Jasper who now had an expression of awe looking at me.
“Now we are even….” I muttered, my eyes not leaving Jaspers. I could see the shock turn into something else as he began laughing. Full on body laugh, as he put one of his arms on his middle and the other covering his mouth, trying to keep the laugh down. I looked at him with an unimpressed look, trying to keep myself from throwing up from the metallic taste in my mouth.
“You really are something else.” Jasper laughs, standing up, eyes going down to the bite mark I left. He brings it up to his mouth licking the remnants of blood away, “You really are a firecracker. Maybe I should call you that instead of little sparrow.”
“I'd rather you not call me any nickname.” I snarked back, my patience is wearing thin around this man. I just want to sleep and forget about where I am until the next test happens.
“Too bad. Little Sparrow still has a nice ring to it.” He’s still chuckling to himself as he looks down at me. He pushed some of his hair out of his face, smiling. I didn’t blink at the full on blinding joy in that smile.
“I shall see you later little sparrow. I’ll have someone come clean your wound out. Don’t need you getting sick or infected, now can we? Not before all the tests are done.”
He gives off a low laugh that ends up echoing through the room. It had a crazy note to it, his eyes wild. I kept my mouth shut, not wanting to see if he would give me another bite. I didn’t want to find out. Being around this man was exhausting. I didn’t know if I could do it twenty-four seven without wanting to hit him. He looks at me one more time before leaving the smile still in place on his face, the door shutting loudly, leaving me alone in the cell.
