CHAPTER 14
Rayne glared at him. “Why did you suddenly come here? At least make some noise before you approach me.”
Losif stood there, looking down, not even facing him.
“I’m sorry, Rayne… but please don’t kick me out of the house,” he said softly, still staring at the floor.
Rayne sighed, placing both hands on his waist like some old woman. What could he even say now?
He knew exactly where this was coming from. Because of his amnesia, Losif was terrified of being left alone.
Rayne had jumped up in shock earlier when Losif appeared behind him, but now that he thought about it, maybe he had overreacted.
He walked back to the sofa, rested a knee on it, and looked at Losif.
“Losif, I’m not going to kick you out. Rest assured, you can stay here as long as you want, okay?” he said gently.
Losif quickly looked up, his expression brightening with relief. Rayne even ordered takeout for him, knowing he must be hungry.
But he had already messaged Lucian, so Lucian must be waiting… or maybe he didn’t even care whether Rayne came home. Still, Rayne was married now, so he should at least act like it.
“Losif, eat and then sleep. I’ll come back tomorrow. I need to go now.”
Since Losif was busy eating, Rayne waved at him and walked toward the door.
But as he reached it, he heard footsteps and suddenly felt Losif hugging him from behind. Rayne hadn’t expected that at all. Even with amnesia, Losif was still acting like he had never cheated on Rayne.
“Losif, what’s with this behavior? I’m not your boyfriend. I’m already married, so get away from me,” Rayne said in a low voice, expression straight.
“No… no, I won’t let go. You’ll leave if I do,” Losif said stubbornly, refusing to release him.
Rayne didn’t want to hit him since he was still injured, but he had no choice. He jabbed his elbow back into Losif’s stomach, and Losif immediately loosened his grip.
“Ughhh,” Losif hissed.
Rayne turned to look at him. Losif’s hands clutched his stomach as he stared at Rayne.
“I’m letting you stay here out of pity, so don’t try to cling to me. I don’t have any interest in you,” Rayne said firmly.
Then he turned around and left without looking back. Losif didn’t say anything after that, but Rayne told himself he shouldn’t worry about him anyway.
That was how he ended up returning home, only to find Lucian waiting for him.
But even now, as Rayne lay on the bed in his room, his mind kept drifting back to the moment Losif hugged him… and to Lucian’s earlier words, saying they would have a physical relationship now.
He wasn’t exactly looking forward to it, but just thinking about it made his heart race. He and Lucian hadn’t done anything yet, so everything still felt new.
Rayne hugged a pillow to his chest under the blanket, holding it tightly because he felt cold.
He closed his eyes, but they snapped open the moment he heard a knock on the door. He glanced toward it, lowered the pillow, and walked over.
When he opened the door, Lucian stood there holding a tray of food.
“Glad you’re not asleep yet. You didn’t say whether you had dinner, and I haven’t eaten either, so I brought this. Let’s eat,” Lucian said as he walked in.
Right, Rayne had completely forgotten he hadn’t eaten since the afternoon. He wasn’t even hungry, so he hadn’t realized it.
Lucian set the tray down on the bed and sat beside it, waiting for Rayne to join.
Rayne sat down, and they began eating. Surprisingly, after just one bite, hunger kicked in.
“Rayne, mind if I sleep with you tonight? It’s so cold I was freezing… and I promise I’ll keep you warm.”
The moment Rayne heard Lucian say that, the bite in his mouth got stuck in his throat. He coughed, eyes watering.
How could Lucian say that… with such a straight face?
“Here, drink this water,” Lucian said as he handed Rayne the glass. After drinking it, Rayne finally felt fine.
But his eyes stayed fixed on Lucian. Lucian looked completely normal.
“How can you say something like that with such a straight face?” Rayne asked.
Lucian stared at him with wide, surprised eyes for a few seconds. Then he seemed to understand and chuckled.
“Because that’s normal between husband and wife. I’m sorry for what I said before, but from now on, there’s no restriction between us.”
Rayne didn’t reply. He continued eating, and once they finished, he stood up.
“I’ll take these dishes back.”
Since Lucian brought everything for him, Rayne felt responsible. Lucian didn’t stop him.
Rayne put the dishes into the sink and didn’t want to leave them there all night, so he washed everything.
Once the kitchen was clean, he went upstairs. As soon as he opened the bedroom door, he saw Lucian sleeping on the right side of the bed. Rayne always slept on the left, so that should have been good.
Wait… no, it wasn’t good. He hadn’t agreed to let Lucian sleep here. How could Lucian sleep without permission?
But Lucian’s eyes were closed, so he must have fallen asleep already. Rayne quietly closed the door, switched off the lights, and carefully slid under the blanket beside him.
The feeling was new… sleeping beside his husband. Rayne swallowed hard, staring at the ceiling before closing his eyes.
Then he flinched when Lucian suddenly turned toward him, his arm falling across Rayne’s body. It was heavy, but Rayne couldn’t bring himself to say anything. That would be too embarrassing.
Okay… let’s not get worked up over just a hug, he told himself. It was uncomfortable at first since he wasn’t used to sleeping beside someone, especially with someone’s arm draped over him.
But after a while, he got used to it and slowly fell asleep.
And then he felt something heavy on him.
Rayne opened his eyes and saw Lucian on top of him, taking off his T-shirt.
“W-What are you doing, Lucian? Why are you taking off your clothes? And why are you on top of me in the first place?” Rayne asked.
“I want you, my kitty.”
Lucian said it and suddenly lowered himself, pressing his lips against Rayne’s.
Rayne’s eyes snapped open. It was a dream.
Why was he having dreams like that? He wasn’t some teenager anymore, so why?
He sat up with a yawn and noticed Lucian wasn’t beside him. Lucian must’ve woken up early again, he always got ready for work before Rayne even woke.
Rayne got out of bed and went into the bathroom.
His eyes widened.
Lucian was in the bathtub… drowning himself.
Rayne rushed inside and grabbed his arms, pulling him out of the water. That’s when he realized, Lucian’s body was burning hot.
Did he have a fever? He had passed out under the water… he must be sick. Why didn’t he say anything sooner?
“Is anyone out there?!” Rayne shouted, even though his voice probably wouldn’t reach the hallway from inside the bathroom.
He struggled but managed to pull Lucian out of the bathtub. As he did, Lucian slowly opened his eyes. When he saw Rayne holding him up and struggling, he blinked weakly.
Then his eyes closed again. Rayne loosened his grip for a moment, thinking Lucian was awake, and Lucian’s body slumped forward. Rayne quickly caught him again and brought him out of the bathroom, laying him on the bed.
He was about to run out when the door suddenly swung open.
Coral rushed inside. Thank God, Lucian’s assistant would definitely help.
“Coral, hello, I think Lucian is sick. He has a high fever. Can you call the doctor?”
Hearing that, Coral immediately went to the bed and checked on him.
“I’ll change his clothes. Can you get me his clothes?” Coral asked.
Lucian’s clothes… but this was Rayne’s room, so of course nothing of Lucian’s was here. Rayne nodded and hurried out.
Goldie was sitting in front of Lucian’s room. Rayne gave him a small smile before going inside. The moment he stepped in, the strong lemon scent hit him.
He glanced around, opened the wardrobe, and saw too many clothes to choose from, so he grabbed casual night pants and a T-shirt. Since Lucian was soaked, Rayne also took a pair of underwear.
He returned to his room and saw Lucian already naked under the blanket while Coral was on the phone with the doctor.
Rayne placed the clothes on the bed. “Here, Lucian’s clothes.”
Coral turned, slid his phone into his pocket, and picked up the clothes. He was about to lift the blanket, and Rayne couldn’t see Lucian naked, so he hurriedly grabbed the wet clothes on the floor and rushed into the bathroom.
He threw the wet clothes into the washing machine. After that, he took a quick shower—only ten minutes. But he hadn’t brought anything else in with him, so he put on the same clothes again, even though they were still damp.
When he stepped out, Lucian was fully dressed and lying down, while Coral sat beside him, checking his temperature.
Coral looked back when he heard the door.
“Why don’t you change your clothes, Mr. Rayne? They’re wet, you might get sick.”
Hearing him, Rayne went out, grabbed dry clothes, changed in the bathroom, and returned after a few minutes.
After a while, the doctor arrived. While he checked Lucian, Rayne stood near the bed beside Coral, feeling nervous.
Once the doctor finished examining Lucian, he gave him a shot and then looked at them.
“Mr. Lucian is lacking rest. His body finally gave out.”
Lucian had been working so hard, without taking a break, that his body finally collapsed, and now he was sick.
