CHAPTER 15
“I will prescribe the medications. Just give them to him on time and take care of him. He will be fine,” the doctor said.
Coral went out with the doctor while Rayne stayed inside with Lucian, who still hadn’t woken up yet. But as the doctor said, he would wake up soon. Because of the fever, Lucian was sleeping deeply and not waking up.
Rayne sat beside him on the bed. When he touched Lucian’s forehead, the fever was already going down, which was good.
He gently patted Lucian’s head and stayed there. He didn’t think he would be able to go to work today. How could he leave his husband alone at home when he was sick?
Lucian’s subordinates would be around… but they weren’t his partner.
“Lucian, you should have told me last night that you weren’t feeling well. If you had…” Rayne stopped.
Because even if Lucian had told him, Rayne didn’t know what he would have done. So he fell silent and grabbed his phone.
He opened the company’s social media account and saw the announcement.
[Announcement: We had partnered with Aura Hospital and it was a pleasant experience at first, but we regret to announce that we will no longer be working with them. Due to their lack of care for their patients and some other reasons, we are terminating the contract with them.]
Rayne smiled. That was exactly what he told the social media manager to post. He had seen how they sent Iosif out of the hospital even with amnesia. They didn’t care about their patient at all.
They only cared about money, so of course they couldn’t invest in a hospital like that.
[Rayne: San, can you go to my villa? There is someone staying there. Take breakfast for him. Lucian is sick, so I won’t be able to come to the company today. Handle everything.]
Rayne messaged San because he knew San could handle things properly.
“Rayne!”
Rayne’s attention snapped back to Lucian because Lucian had called his name. He opened his eyes, his hands reaching out as if searching for Rayne.
Rayne quickly grabbed his hand. “Lucian, I’m here.”
“Rayne…” Lucian whispered softly, then fell asleep again.
Rayne didn’t know what to say. His face felt hot. Was he seriously blushing just because Lucian called his name even in his sleep?
He gulped and looked at Lucian again. Lucian’s eyes were closed, but he still looked as handsome as ever.
Rayne still couldn’t believe he had married someone like him, someone this handsome. While he was smiling, he noticed Lucian was shivering.
He adjusted the blanket over him, but Lucian was still feeling cold. What should he do now?
Should he hug him? Wouldn’t that be a little…
No, wait. They were married. It was nothing.
Rayne lifted the blanket and lay down beside him. He pulled Lucian into his arms. Even though Lucian was big and didn’t really fit, he still nuzzled close.
Lucian moved on his own and hugged Rayne, his face resting against Rayne’s chest. Rayne’s hand went to his back.
Even though Lucian was this big, he looked like a grown-up baby who needed love. He nuzzled his head against Rayne’s chest, and Rayne closed his eyes, gently patting him.
After a while, when Rayne woke up, they were still in the same position. The door was closed, Coral must have closed it.
Rayne touched Lucian’s forehead again to check his temperature. He didn’t have a fever anymore. Thank God. His fever was finally going down.
As Rayne snapped out of his thoughts, he noticed Lucian’s eyes were open. He was awake but still in the same position.
Rayne quickly sat up. “You were awake? How are you feeling now?”
“I guess I was indeed sick. It’s been five years since I last fell sick. I’m sorry for making you worry about me. And… thank you so much for hugging me like that.”
What was he saying? Rayne knew Lucian must be grateful, but who thanked their partner for hugging them?
Rayne stepped down from the bed. “If you’re fine now, then I’m going to work,” he said.
After getting ready, he left without even looking at Lucian. When he reached the company, he saw many missed calls from San.
Why was San calling him this much?
Rayne stepped inside the building, thinking about it, and saw everyone gathered in a group, looking down.
“What is happening here?” he asked.
When they heard his voice, they all turned around. Something bad had definitely happened.
“Why are you all standing here like this instead of working?”
No one said anything. They just stared at him. Rayne really felt like beating them. How could they ignore their boss like this?
He glared at them and went straight into his office. Once inside, he called San.
(Rayne) “Where are you right now, San?”
(San) “Boss, I’m at your villa. There’s no one here. And when I checked the CCTV footage, the person who was here left early in the morning. A black car came to pick him up.”
A black car? Did Iosif’s family come to get him? But how would they know where he was?
Of course, they would know. Iosif must have contacted them.
Or maybe it was Ken. No one could say for sure. But honestly… it was better he left now.
(Rayne) “San, come back now.”
Rayne hung up and threw his phone onto the table. At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” he said.
The door opened, and an omega walked in. He looked gloomy, glasses, bangs covering part of his face.
Rayne knew him. Juan. He didn’t talk much, but he was incredibly good at his work. Rayne had heard from his father that Juan was dedicated and hardworking.
Actually, all of the employees here were hardworking. The only problem was… none of them liked having Rayne as their boss.
Rayne signaled for Juan to sit on the chair across the table. Juan did, but he looked extremely worried, biting his lips and tightly gripping his own hands.
Juan stayed silent for a moment, so Rayne spoke first.
“Juan, why are you here?” he asked, since the omega wasn’t saying anything.
Juan glanced up at him, his eyes nervous.
“Actually… you know Rose? This morning when we came, his whole computer was reset. Like someone deleted all the work he did for all these years. And they were all saying it was done by you… because you were jealous of him.”
Rayne was shocked, but he laughed too. His employees were really something, accusing him like this.
But fine… he would see how long they wanted to rebel against him.
And about Rose’s computer, Rayne hadn’t even stayed long yesterday. He left early. So someone must have stayed behind to do that.
Was it Rose himself?
Would he really go this far just to accuse Rayne? Honestly, Rayne didn’t know.
Rose was still new, but it could be him. Maybe he deleted his own hard work just to blame Rayne.
Well, Rayne couldn’t say anything yet. “Thank you, Juan, for telling me this. You can go now. And don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone that you told me.”
Juan stood and bowed to him before leaving.
Hmm… so what should he do now? It wasn’t like they were going to change if he left this matter alone.
Rayne stayed seated, and after a while, San returned.
Rayne told him everything. He even checked the CCTV footage, no outsider had come inside the company or touched Rose’s computer.
Only Rose himself had touched his computer for the last two days.
Meaning Rose was the one who deleted those files.
“Boss, if they are rebelling against you, there’s no need to keep them here. Workers who don’t respect their boss aren’t worthy of being in this company,” San said.
Rayne walked toward the vase on the table and touched it. There were no flowers inside, yet it still looked beautiful on its own.
“Boss… I don’t know what you’re thinking right now, but I eavesdropped while entering. They were talking about giving their resignation,” San added.
“San, then do something for me.”
Rayne whispered something to him, and afterward, he left his office and headed to the department where no one liked him.
He called every worker there, not just one department, because most of the employees in this company hated him.
And they hadn’t been doing real work ever since his parents resigned.
“Attention, everyone. Today I want to announce something very big,” Rayne said loudly.
But no one paid attention to him.
As expected, they didn’t even want to listen. He had never heard of anything like this happening to a new CEO.
But it was happening to him… all because he was an omega.
If his parents had an alpha child, everyone in this company would’ve accepted that alpha as their CEO without hesitation.
But this wouldn’t hold Rayne back.
Being an omega was his biggest strength. His dad had told him that, and he believed it.
“San, I guess no one wants to hear me out. So go on… give them,” Rayne said softly.
San nodded and started handing white envelopes to every worker one by one.
As soon as they opened them, their eyes widened.
Because Rayne had fired all of them from the company today.
Did they really think they could threaten him with their resignations?
Like hell. Rayne wasn’t like his mom and dad, he was different, so his ways were different too.
“What’s the meaning of this? You can’t just fire us on your own without any reason!” Rose shouted.
This omega… basically their leader, always messing with Rayne for no reason.
Even though Rayne knew these employees worked with his parents for years and helped build this company… he thought it was time for a break.
“Well, you all have been neglecting your work and ignoring your CEO. That’s enough. And a CEO doesn’t need a reason to fire his employees,” Rayne said with a smirk, arms folded, eyes sharp.
“You all pack your things and clean everything by tomorrow. New workers will need the space.”
With that, he left.
He didn’t fire Juan, of course. Juan was the only one who actually worked. Even when Rose told them not to, Juan still did. That’s why Rayne didn’t call him here. Juan was under his wings; he’d protect him.
San walked with him back to the office. When they reached inside, Rayne turned on the footage of the department, and the two watched the reactions together.
Everyone was angry, glaring at Rose, arguing with him. Because of him, they ended up like this.
If they came to apologize, Rayne would retract the letter. But if they didn’t… it meant they didn’t want to work here.
“Boss, I didn’t see your husband! I know you’re married. How is he? You said he was sick?” San asked.
“Oh, he’s fine now. And it’s not even been a week since I got married. It was an arranged marriage, that’s why I’m not feeling anything,” Rayne replied and closed his laptop.
“Then who is that alpha at your villa?”
“Oh, that? That’s my ex, Iosif. He recently met with an accident and lost all his memories. His family isn’t ready to take him back either. It’s complicated… he was my first love.”
Rayne looked at San. The beta didn’t react at all, just stared with a straight face. Maybe Rayne shouldn’t bore him with his love life.
“What about you? Do you have a lover?” Rayne asked.
“No. I don’t believe in love. And since I’m a beta, I don’t feel pheromones. So I’m better off single.”
Look at him, talking like an old man. But everyone had their own situations… things they went through, lessons they learned.
As they were talking, there was a knock.
“Come in,” Rayne said.
The door opened, and Rose stormed inside, walking in full speed.
“You bitch! How dare you do this to us?” he shouted, slamming the envelope on the table.
“We’re not going to tolerate your stinky behavior!” he yelled.
