CHAPTER 29
“W-What do you mean by this?” Rayne asked.
Of course, he couldn’t understand what Lucian meant, how they could possibly give Losif the same kind of pain.
Lucian smiled gently and joined his hand with Rayne’s. “The pain you feel… don’t you think he deserves it too? Come on, let’s get ready. I’ll take you somewhere.”
Rayne understood immediately. Even if Lucian didn’t say it directly, Rayne knew exactly where he was being taken,to Losif. For revenge.
But he also knew he couldn’t keep living in fear of that man. That was why he stepped down from the bed and got ready.
Once he finished and came out of the bathroom, he saw Lucian sitting on the bed, already dressed in a long coat over a black shirt, typing something on his phone.
“Lucian, I am ready,” Rayne said.
Lucian’s eyes lifted at the sound of his voice. He stood up, took Rayne’s hand, and led him outside the house.
Once they were out, Lucian opened the car door. Rayne sat in the passenger seat while Lucian got into the driver’s seat.
Rayne’s gaze stayed fixed on the window, one hand gripping his thigh tightly, while the other slowly reached toward Lucian. Lucian noticed it immediately and intertwined their fingers.
Rayne didn’t look at him. Not even once. He felt safe as long as Lucian was beside him.
After a while, Lucian stopped the car. Rayne looked around and realized they were in front of a club.
They both stepped out, still holding hands, and walked inside.
Everyone bowed as Lucian passed.
“Morning, boss,” one of them greeted.
Rayne looked around, slowly piecing everything together. The way people addressed Lucian… it was clear now. He was involved in the mafia. But Rayne didn’t let any of his thoughts show on his face.
He simply kept walking beside Lucian as he was led further inside.
They went down into the basement.
Rayne’s eyes widened.
Losif was there, tied to a chair. His injuries had been treated, bandages wrapped around him.
Just seeing him in front of his eyes made Rayne’s heart skip a beat. Fear gripped him, and his hand tightened around Lucian’s.
Lucian understood immediately.
He released his soothing pheromones, wrapping Rayne in a calming presence meant only for him.
Rayne, overwhelmed, moved closer and hugged Lucian while still staring at Losif.
Losif’s eyes were closed, but then he slowly opened them.
Rayne flinched the moment their eyes met.
“Ohh, isn’t it Rayne… my bitch?” Losif said with a smirk. “You’re here to get me freed from here, right?”
A smirk spread across Losif’s face. “Rayne, my babe, are you still scared about what I did last time? Your husband was so furious after finding out, but he couldn’t do anything.”
Losif’s words only made the situation worse for Rayne, as memories of what he had done kept flashing in his mind. That horrible scene replayed over and over again, making it hard for him to breathe.
He covered both ears and shut his eyes tightly in fear.
At that moment, a man stepped inside holding a baseball bat, which he then handed over to Lucian.
Rayne was still standing close to Lucian. With one arm, Lucian pulled him into a brief protective hug before taking the bat from the man.
“Don’t be scared,” Lucian said calmly. “The man you’re afraid of is even weaker than you. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and try hitting him.”
But Rayne wasn’t confident enough. He wasn’t in the right state of mind to hurt anyone. Still, Lucian gently pushed him forward.
Rayne found himself standing right in front of Losif, who was still smiling wickedly.
Rayne’s gaze dropped to the ground.
“Don’t just stand there. Raise the bat and hit him,” Lucian instructed from behind.
But Rayne was too scared to follow through. Still, after gathering whatever courage he had left, he lifted the baseball bat and brought it down on Losif’s head without much strength.
“Babe, throw that bat away. You can’t do anything with it. Just untie me already,I’ll take you with me when I leave. You’re mine,” Losif said smugly.
The moment those words left his mouth, Lucian stepped forward and stood directly behind Rayne. He placed both his hands over Rayne’s and took control of the bat.
“You have so much guts calling him yours,” Lucian said coldly. “He isn’t anyone’s. He’s not an object,he’s a human being.”
With that, Lucian tightened his grip around Rayne’s hands and swung the bat with full force at Losif’s head.
Rayne felt the impact clearly. The force behind it made his breath hitch.
Losif’s head began to bleed, and his arrogant expression slowly faded into shock and confusion as dizziness took over.
Lucian leaned closer near Rayne’s ear and said, “Did you see that? Just one strike and he’s already gone silent. Imagine what would happen if you hit him more. He should spend his whole life remembering this fear. You should hit him like that.”
Rayne lifted the bat again, this time with more strength.
“You bitch… how dare you hit me like this! I’ll kill you once I get free from here!”
Something in Rayne snapped. He realized his strikes were actually causing pain to Losif. A faint, shaken smile appeared on his lips.
He started hitting Losif again and again without stopping. Each strike came harder than the last until Losif’s body was covered in injuries and blood.
“Wait, you need to catch your breath too. Don’t exhaust yourself just for him,” Lucian said, suddenly handing Rayne a bowl.
Rayne gave him a confused look.
Then he noticed the bowl was filled with salt.
