EPILOGUE ONE

MAYA

FOUR YEARS LATER

“It’s time for bed, baby,” Finn says as Skye sits in his lap and wraps her arms around his neck.

Skye pouts at him with a shake of her head. “No,” she whines. “I don’t wanna go to bed.”

Finn sighs and strokes back her long blonde hair before tucking it behind her ears. “We’ve got a busy day tomorrow. We’re seeing Auntie Ivy and Uncle JJ, remember? You don’t want to be tired.”

“But—”

“No buts,” he says sternly. “Come on, I’ll read you a story.”

Skye tries to give him her puppy dog eyes, and regardless of how adorable she looks, Finn has worked hard not to give in every single time.

“Don’t look at me like that,” he huffs before picking her up effortlessly. “Pyjamas, teeth, and bed. You’re tired, sweetheart.”

“I’m not,” she protests, but even I can see her eyes growing heavy.

“Whatever you say.” Finn chuckles.

After getting her ready for bed, I lean on her door and listen as Finn reads from one of Skye’s favourite books. Finn loves getting into the story and uses all sorts of funny voices and accents, but Skye’s eyes are already falling closed.

I step forward when Finn shuts the book, and I press a kiss to her forehead. “Goodnight, Skye,” I whisper.

Finn turns off her light and pulls her door a little before we head back downstairs. “I thought she was going to fight me all night,” Finn exhales.

“She was far too exhausted to keep lying,” I say as I watch Finn walk towards the sofa. “Let’s hope she stays asleep.”

Finn nods before patting the space on the sofa beside me. “Come here,” he murmurs. “I need to cuddle you.”

I release a breath through my nose and smile. My eyes roam his face as butterflies start to erupt inside me. I chew on my bottom lip as anticipation crawls through me. I’ve been waiting for a moment between us, and I can’t keep the secret to myself any longer.

“Actually, I have something for you.” The tone of my voice wobbles, but I’ve been waiting to do this for months.

Finn’s head tilts. “What?”

“Close your eyes,” I say. “And hold out your palm.”

“Okay…” He trails off before doing as I ask.

I slide the test out from my pocket that I quickly shoved there while Finn was getting Skye ready for bed. I walk towards him before placing it in the middle of his hand. My heart rattles as I take a step back and compose myself.

“Open.”

Finn opens his eyes and stares down at the pregnancy test in his hand. At first, he’s silent, blinking through his vision until he brings it closer to his eyes to see the red cross through the piece of plastic.

Then his eyes rise to mine, and his mouth falls open, chest heaving uncontrollably.

“You’re pregnant?”

“Yeah,” I whisper.

Finn is up within a second and drops the test to the sofa as he cradles my face between his hands. I stare up at his expression, eyes already starting to water as his lips tremble.

“Oh my god,” he murmurs. “Oh my god. You’re pregnant…you’re really pregnant?”

All I can do is nod because words will be nothing but a jumbled mess.

“Fuck,” he exhales before drawing his lips to mine and kissing me with such intensity, I feel it down into my toes. “Oh my god. I love you. I love you.”

His arms wrap around me as he cradles the back of my head, and I clutch onto his T-shirt, burying my face into his chest. His entire body starts to shake as he releases a soft cry, and he holds onto me tightly.

As he pulls away, he holds my face, and he wipes away my tears. “When did you find out?” he asks with a raspy voice.

“This morning,” I say before chewing on my lip. “It’s been agony keeping it to myself, but I wanted to tell you separately from Skye.”

Finn rests his forehead on mine. “Are you okay?”

“Yes. I’m perfect, I’m happy, I’m whole.”

“We’re having another baby,” he whispers.

“Yeah, we sure are. Two children. Yikes,” I say playfully.

“We’re ready, sunshine. So fucking ready. And Skye. Oh my god, Skye. She’s going to be the best big sister ever.”

“I know,” I say as joy shines through my heart.

Without hesitation, Finn starts to kneel down before kissing my stomach. I release a soft laugh as my fingers brush through the back of his hair. He doesn’t stop. No, he worships my body with his touch and kisses of adoration.

“This is the reaction I should have given you the first time,” he murmurs as he looks up at me. “You’re not doing this alone.”

I cup his cheek and feel my heart explode in my chest when he nuzzles his face into my skin. “Because I know you have changed for the better and you’re the healthiest you’ve ever been.”

Finn reaches for my hand before kissing my wedding rings.

“Oh, don’t I know it. I can’t wait to be there for all of it.

To do everything I should have the first time, get you anything you need, rub your feet when you’re swollen.

I have to make sure my wife is looked after, it’s my only job as a husband. ”

A laugh bursts from me. “You gonna give me the princess treatment, huh?”

“Oh, definitely,” he says as he gives me a determined look. “I’m doing it right, and you’ll be sick of me.”

“Impossible.”

Finn stands back up and kisses me again. “A family of four,” he mutters. “My life could not be any better. This is all I’ve ever wanted.”

I sigh against his mouth in agreement. “Could be twins or triplets.”

“Holy shit.” He pulls back.

My lips curl into a smile.

“When can you get a scan?”

“Not yet. I still have to wait a little while. Normally around the twelfth week.”

“When do you think it happened?”

I raise my brows and tilt my head to the side. “Probably three weeks ago, when we went at it like five times in one night, like a couple of teenagers.”

I’d just come off the pill, and it was stupidly sexy to think he was literally breeding me. The things he was saying…oh god. My cheeks heat thinking back to it and how downright dirty it was.

Finn swipes a hand over his jaw. “Shit,” he murmurs. “That soon?”

“That’s what happens sometimes when you ejaculate into someone without any contraception.”

He rolls his eyes and kisses me again. “It was fucking hot, though.”

“Trust me.” I blow out a breath. “I don’t need a reminder. No wonder I got pregnant.”

Finn chuckles and buries his face into my neck. “I’m so happy,” he whispers.

“Me too,” I say and mean it with my entire heart.
