Ava Gray #4

“I don’t know why that’s being said about me. I come to work, and that’s my only focus while on the clock.

“Right.” He chuckled. “I guess Ethan just chooses to be so protective over you for the hell of it, huh? Plus, I see the way you walk around at the office. Strutting in those tight-ass dresses and skirts. To be honest, I enjoy the view of your ass switching around. It’s definitely a turn-on. ” He eased his way closer to me.

“I don’t purposely wear fitting clothes. I can’t help the way my body is shaped.”

“I’m not complaining about it.” He laughed.

“I just said I enjoyed it. You know, come to think of it, I’ve never been with a black girl before.

” He rolled the ends of my hair around his fingers.

“The more I see your pretty brown face, the more curious I am. I figured I could give you a nice little raise in exchange for a few favors.” He winked.

It wasn’t until then that I noticed a tiny bit of white substance on the corner of his nose. The man was high and trying to push up on me. I had to get myself out of there.

“I’m fine, actually, and I really have to go.” I gave a hesitant smile while attempting to slide away.

“Why not? Why not take the extra money and give me what I want? I mean, you’re fuckin’ my prick of a brother, right?

What is it that he's giving you? Don’t say nothing because I know that’s a fucking lie.

I see you’re driving a brand new Maybach, that proves to me pretty bitches like you always take the money.

Get slutted out. Find the next guy and repeat.

“Excuse you?” I spat.

“If you want to continue working for my family and making good money, you’ll give me what I want. I want to suck on you to see if you really taste like chocolate or honey.” He laughed out loud.

I attempted to push him back out of my face, but he grabbed my wrist.

“Let me go!”

“Come on, just let me get a taste.” He roughly groped me.

“Trenton! Get off me!”

He went for the button on my pants, and I tried to push him off, but he grabbed my wrist again. We tussled for a moment before he wrapped his arms tightly around me.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I yelled. “Get off me!”

“You’re letting Ethan fuck you, but I can’t get any? I’ll raise your pay. I’m the real CEO of our company. You’re fucking the wrong boss.”

He continued to manhandle me as he roughly pulled on my clothes, ripping my shirt.

When I heard the fabric tear, I used all my strength to kick him in the nuts.

Doubling over, he fell to his knees, and I wasted no time getting my ass away from him.

I didn’t even bother to close the door behind me as I ran out to my car and sped away on two wheels.

What the hell was wrong with these people?

Back at the house, my mind was in a whirlwind.

I was almost raped by a cokehead. I never fully trusted Trenton in the first place, and I damn sure wasn’t putting anything past him now.

I no longer felt comfortable working for the Whitmore family.

Well, I no longer felt comfortable around Trenton—it wasn’t the entire family.

At that moment, I knew I wasn’t trying to go back to work.

How the hell was I going to tell Julia my reason?

Hell, even Ethan? I had to say something because I wasn’t about to sweep that shit under the rug or allow him to think he was getting away with putting his hands on me.

I also found it weird that he tried that shit, knowing Ethan was out of town for a few days.

After picking Savannah up from my parents, I stopped to get her something to snack on since she’d already had dinner.

I figured she’d lay up and watch Despicable Me or Minions on Peacock.

To my surprise, my baby was out like a light, not even halfway through the movie.

Already in her pajamas, I placed her in bed and closed the door behind me.

In the kitchen, I grabbed a bottle of my favorite wine. Then I went to the bathroom to sit in the tub. I felt so violated that my skin felt like it wouldn’t stop crawling. I felt nauseous.

My phone started to ring, pulling me from my thoughts.

“Hey, sis,” I answered.

“Hey, bookie. What you doing?”

“Nothing. Sitting in the tub…thinking.” I sighed as I rested my head back.

“Long day, huh?”

“Girl, you don’t even know the half. I know Ethan and Julia are gonna disagree, but I’m quitting the Whitmores. Effective immediately, bitch. I need to find another job asap.” I took a sip from my glass.

“What? As good as your pay is, you're gonna give it up? Ava, why would you do that?”

I sat silently for a few seconds.

“Uh, hello?” Aja waited for me to respond.

“The asshole I was telling you about, Trenton. I had to drop something off at his place. I didn’t notice at first, but I think he was high off coke or something. That muthafucka tried to rape me.”

“He what? Oh, hell nah! Have you called EJ?”

I knew my sister was ready to pull up and put a foot in Trenton’s ass.

Hell, I wanted to fight his ass too, but I had to be smart and handle the situation differently.

I just got off the hook from facing charges dealing with Rob.

I wasn’t trying to get caught up and find myself in that position again.

“I haven’t talked to him yet. He should be back tomorrow evening, I think. I don’t wanna bother him while he’s away.” I stared up at the ceiling.

“This is crazy.” Aja sighed.

“Tell me about it.” I agreed.

“I just came up with a good idea, but I know you’re not—”

“You’re exactly right. I’m not about to blackmail him. Aja, I have too much shit going on already. I don’t have time for extra bullshit to be piled on my plate.”

I started to grow frustrated and slightly irritated. I knew she could hear it in my voice because she apologized before trying to change the subject.

“I can’t continue to stay here. I don’t feel safe anymore.”

“Well, pack your shit and come on over here,” she declared.

In the middle of her talking, my phone beeped, showing I had an incoming FaceTime call from Ethan. I wonder if he knew we were talking about him. Quickly, I got off the phone with my sister to click over.

“Damn, I called at the right time, huh?” His smile lit up my screen.

“I guess so.” I smiled back. “How are you?”

“Shit, I’m coolin’. I miss you.”

A smooth smile spread across my face when he said that.

“I miss you too. I need you to hurry back.” I grinned, flashing my boobs to the camera.

The way his eyes lit up while biting his bottom lip made me want to moan.

“You can’t be teasing me like that.” He licked his lips.

“Where’s Savannah?”

“Sleeping. She passed out early. After I get out of this tub, I’ll be right behind her.” I chuckled.

“Long day?” he asked.

“Yeah.” I sighed and dropped my eyes from the screen.

I so badly wanted to open my mouth and tell him about his piece of shit brother.

“You alright?”

“Yeah.” I nodded.

He got quiet, studying my face through the screen.

“Well, I just wanted to check up on you. See your beautiful face and hear your voice.”

“Aww.” I blushed.

“I’ll let you get back to enjoying your bubbles, and I’ll hit you up in the morning.”

“Okay.” I pouted with my bottom lip poked out.

That made him release that laugh I loved to hear so much. His pearly whites shined in the dim light that surrounded him.

“Goodnight, beautiful.” He winked.

“Goodnight, handsome.” I blew a kiss.

Once our call ended, I turned on my R&B playlist on Apple Music before placing my phone on the side of the tub.

I allowed my body to relax as my mind began to drift in different directions.

It seemed that every time I started patching my life together, something happened to make a piece crumble.

It was frustrating. Not only that, but it was the fact that I was about to go through a divorce, and I knew Rob.

He’d use every stone he could gather to throw my way in an attempt to knock me down.

I hadn’t been making the smartest decisions, but I prayed we could get through this shit smoothly.

I prayed he wouldn’t prolong the process.

I didn’t want shit from him materialistically. All I wanted was peace.
