43. Finn

Finn

Iwalked for hours around the city with no real destination planned.

My mind ran around in circles. Why the hell hadn’t I just sorted it when Tamara had first called me?

I tried to tell myself it was because the club kept me busy, but the more I thought about it, the more I believed it was that I wasn't ready to face that part of my past. It meant remembering why I had agreed to marry Tamara in the first place.

I sat on a bench as people hurried past, my eyes on them but not actually seeing anything.

Fuck, the look on Kate’s face when Tamara had said the word ‘wife’ replayed in my mind.

Was I ever good enough for her? We’d only been together a short time, and that was the second time I’d fucked up. I scrubbed my hands up and down my face, hoping it would erase some of the frustration I felt.

It didn’t.

My phone pinged in my pocket, and I nearly dropped it in my haste to pull it out and check it, hoping it was from Kate. It was Reaper.

Reaper: All sorted?

Me: Nope

Reaper: Get it done

I shoved my phone back in my pocket and stood up, storming off into the crowd.

Get it done? Get it done? How the fuck was I going to get it done when Kate didn’t want to see me?

The worst part was that I understood why.

Kate didn’t shut people out by screaming. She just ran away and quietly stopped letting them matter to her, and I had a sick feeling in my gut that I was watching it happen in real time.

Then it hit me.

I pulled out my phone again and texted Tamara.

Me: We need to meet asap. I want this sorted.

Tamara: The Belle Hotel. Room 315.

I pulled up the Sat Nav and found the hotel only two blocks away.

The door opened within seconds of me knocking. Tamara greeted me with a huge smile, wearing a sheer nightdress, showing off her red lacy underwear.

“Finlay, come in.”

“Let’s just get this over with.”

“Come on, Finlay. I haven’t seen you since our wedding day. Don’t you think I look good?”

I knew she wouldn’t give up if I didn’t say anything.

“Yeah, Tam, you look good. So, found a rich guy, huh?”

“I am getting married, yes. A banker from the city.” She walked closer to me, her eyes dropping to my boots, climbing up my legs, slowly rising to meet my eyes.

“Papers?” I gave her a pointed look.

She hesitated for a few seconds before huffing and placing the papers on the table by my side.

“Just sign where there are blue arrows,” she stated, handing me an expensive-looking pen.

I read over the document and signed where I was asked.

“That it?”

“That’s it. I’ll file them in the morning and then we are officially divorced.”

I nodded. “Great. Have a good life.”

“Finn, wait! You look good too. You’ve bulked up from the weedy man I married.” She stalked towards me. “You know, we never did get to consummate our marriage.” Her hand shot out and cupped my cock, squeezing it lightly.

“How about it? A fuck for old times’ sake?” She gave me a sultry look that months ago would’ve had me unzipping and putting her on her knees. Since Kate, though, I didn’t feel anything for anyone else.

I gripped her hand and removed it from me. “I don’t think so. I have an old lady now.”

Tamara sulked and shrugged. “Whatever, but she will never be like me.”

I turned and walked to the door, opening it but pausing in the doorway, turning back slightly. “I know, and that’s what I love about her.” I watched as Tamara stamped her foot and swiped up a glass.

I ducked through the doorway, pulling it shut behind me just as I heard glass connect with the door.

I was glad it was over with and that chapter of my life was done. I still had the new chapter with Kate and Noah, and I needed to sort things out with her before I lost them both.
