Chapter 57

DAX

When we finally got back to Jack and Hannah’s place after dealing with the local police, Brittany and Nitro were waiting for us. If making out on the couch was considered waiting.

“Dude, that’s where I watch movies,” Jack told Nitro, shaking his head. Pancake trotted from the other room and began to weave around his ankles.

Nitro wiped his mouth with a finger and reluctantly let Brittany go. She popped up and went over to Hannah, fixing her shirt on the way. Nitro didn’t move. In fact, he grabbed a throw pillow and put it over his lap.

I smirked. Jack frowned even deeper.

“I can’t believe you came back from your trip early,” Brittany told her, giving her a hug .

“If I stayed away any longer, you’d be pregnant,” Hannah countered.

Brittany glanced over her shoulder at Nitro and bit her lip. He didn’t look horrified by the idea.

Interesting.

“I would ask what you’re doing here, but it’s pretty fucking obvious,” Jack muttered. Yeah, we weren’t talking next steps right now. The fact that Nitro was heating up Jack’s living room with Hannah’s bestie was prime convo. “I don’t want any babies conceived on my movie couch.”

“Me? Us?” Brittany said, looking put out. Then her eyes narrowed, and she pointed at me. “What about you?”

“Me?”

“Word around town is that you’re dating an FBI agent and she’s the one who’s pregnant.”

All eyes turned to my girl. Her cheeks flushed a pretty pink I loved to see when I made her come. “Hey, I’m Fiona. The FBI agent. My office has nothing, and I mean nothing, on Coal Springs when it comes to intel gathering.”

“We’re definitely dating,” I told Brittany, wrapping my arm around Fiona and pulling her back against me.

“We’re definitely not pregnant,” Fiona clarified, turning her head to look up at me.

She frowned.

I frowned.

We hadn’t talked about having kids, but I had a feeling not having any was one of the few things we agreed on.

“Well, we are,” Hannah announced, flicking her gaze to Jack .

All color drained from his face. His mouth fell open. “Wh–at?”

Brittany squealed so loud Fiona winced.

It made me wonder if my girl could pick up sounds only dogs could hear.

Hannah went to him, took his hands in hers. “I’m having our baby. I was going to tell you in Hawaii, but the trip got cut short.”

Jack yanked her into his arms, wrapped her up in a tight hug, kissed the top of her head. “Gorgeous.” Then, as if cattle prodded, he went stiff and pushed Hannah away.

“Jack, what the–”

His eyes were huge, and he looked even more freaked than moments earlier. “You picked up a van!”

“Yeah, so!” The confusion on Hannah’s face indicated she had no clue why that was a problem.

“You’re not supposed to lift things!”

Hannah rolled her eyes.

“Don’t you roll your eyes at me,” Jack told her. “You’re carrying my baby, and you can’t do shit like that.”

“You lifted a van?” Brittany asked. “Awesome.”

“What else did I miss?” Nitro asked.

“Fiona has bionic hearing,” Hannah said, obviously trying to divert attention off herself.

Nitro glanced at Fiona. “Cool.”

Jack was having none of it. He pulled her back into his arms, practically giving Hannah whiplash. “Nap. You’re taking a nap. Then we’re–God, Pancake. ”

“What about Pancake?” Hannah asked, her words muffled by Jack’s shirt.

“Toxoplasmosis. We can’t have a cat around you when you’re pregnant. Then there’s all that cheese you like. Wait. You need to get off your feet. Nitro, move your ass.”

Jack pointed at Nitro, then thumbed over his shoulder.

Hannah was given enough room to breathe, and I saw her roll her eyes again. Brittany was laughing, clearly at Jack.

Nitro relocated, clearly afraid Jack might actually murder him.

“Jack, you’re being unreasonable,” Hannah pleaded.

“YOU PICKED UP A VAN! I’m allowed to be unreasonable. What other guy has to deal with his pregnant woman doing that?”

It hadn’t even been nine minutes and Jack was losing his shit. It was going to be a fun nine months. I leaned down, whispered in Fiona’s ear. “Time to go, sweetheart.”

We didn’t even say goodbye, just turned around and left. Nitro and Brittany were right behind us. Because Jack and Hannah weren’t paying us any attention. By the time the door shut, the arguing stopped, and they were the ones making out on Jack’s movie couch.
