25. Chapter 25
Mermaid Motel
My dearest Sadie,
It’s been a while since I’ve written you.
Six months to be exact. And what a six months it has been.
Smuggler’s Hideaway is just as crazy as I imagined it would be.
I thought you were joking about the smugglers until we went on the tour underneath City Hall.
The dark tunnels didn’t scare me but the mayor and her team?
They took turns pinching my ass! And you just stood there and laughed.
You’re lucky I love the sound of your laughter.
And then there’s the motel. Renovating the Mermaid Motel with you has been full of laughter, some tears (yours – not mine), one broken bone (my thumb still aches in the rain), one flood (don’t play semantics with me.
When the parking lot is under a foot of water, it’s a flood), and some blood (which is why you are no longer allowed to play with hammers).
I worried there would be some adjustments to living together since I’ve only lived with fellow soldiers before, but our lives slotted together like we were always meant to find each other.
I think we were. We might have started out as pen pals by mistake but it was no mistake that we found each other.
I will forever be grateful to my brothers for signing me up for a pen pal.
But don’t tell them when you meet them. I’ll never hear the end of it.
You’ve been begging to meet my brothers for a while now. I have exciting news. There’s a chance you can meet them soon. But there’s one thing that needs to be handled first. Here goes.
Sadie Bertha Harris, will you marry me? Will you make me the happiest man in the world by saying yes and becoming my wife?
I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you in our motel where we’ll raise our five kids.
It’s a good thing we expanded the owner’s suite into a full apartment – complete with a bathtub you can’t flood the place with and an oven you haven’t blown up yet.
Say yes. Your dad gave me his permission and your brothers promised not to throw a sheep at me again. Not sure why it had to happen at all for them to learn their lesson.
Say yes.
Hopefully your future husband,
Ben
PS If you don’t say yes, I’m going to tease a yes out of you. I know how much my impatient woman hates being teased in the bedroom ??
