Chapter 12
TWELVE
Posydiann
I wanted Curr to think he had all the time in the world, then I was taking his fat ass head off. He didn’t see it yet, but his time was coming.
The sound of my doorbell filling the house made me look up from my phone. They were all in the game, so I got my ass up and went to the door. When I opened it, Junnie was standing there all dressed up holding a shoe box.
I stepped back, holding the door for her to enter.
“Yo, you're cheating. Out here using moves I ain’t never seen before.” Killah tossed the controller onto the sofa next to him. “I quit.”
“C’mon now, don’t be a sore loser.”
“Play me on the pavement then.” Killah stood up immediately.
I laughed because this was normal for them.
“Junior, here are those ugly ass shoes.” Junnie handed Junior the shoe box, then looked from me to her brother, about to go out of the door. She had her ass on her shoulders.
“Yo, what’s yo’ problem?” I leaned against the couch, attention focused on her.
“You and the fact that you refuse to get your shit together.” She turned around and crossed her arms over her chest.
“The fuck that supposed to mean?” At this point I was at a complete loss because I hadn’t done anything to her that I could think of.
“Where are you going with all that shit caked up on your face?”
“A wedding. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go.”
“Who’s getting married?” Junior asked when she grabbed the doorknob.
“My friend.”
That immediately piqued my interest because Junnie didn’t have friends. She had a friend and we both knew who that was.
“What friend?” I asked, feeling the air about to deflate from my chest.
“Why? You don’t care.”
“The fuck that supposed to mean?” My face screwed up immediately.
“Is this friend Karsyn?” Killah asked, every eye in the room on Junnie except her own.
“Yeah, she’s getting married today and I have to be there.”
That fucked me up immediately because what? “She ain’t waste no time, did she?”
“Fuck you and whatever that means, Posydiann. You don’t know what that girl is going through. Besides the shit with her father, and what he’s forcing her to do, the fact that she’s carrying your child, but you told her to stay away from you. Like really fuck you.”
Every word from her lips had my chest tighter and tighter. “What the fuck is he forcing her to do?”
“Posydiann, that’s beside the point.”
I glared at her, waiting for an answer to my question.
“To save her brother. Something about him being left and unable to do anything. It’s a lot, but before you go judging her, she’s marrying to help Kolton.”
Without another word, I moved to the island, grabbed my keys and wallet, then walked toward her and the door.
“C’mon.”
Confusion filled Junnie’s expression. “Where are we going?”
“We’re going to the wedding, right? I’ll be back, y’all.” I pushed Junnie out of the door and closed it behind us.
“Posydiann, you can’t go and blow up th—”
“Don’t tell me what I can’t do when she’s concerned.
That’s mine, Junnie. As a matter of fact, your bonehead ass shouldn’t have even been on board with this bullshit.
Now you boutta get somebody killed and her ass snatched up.
” I opened the car door for her to get in, then rounded the truck and got into the driver's side.
“What else was I supposed to do? That’s my best friend, Psy. She was hurting and you did it.”
“Fuck all that. Now where is this bullshit taking place?” I glared at her, waiting for an answer.
She looked at me, eyes holding tears. “If I tell you, then you have to promise me you won’t make the same mistake. She doesn’t deserve what she’s going through.”
I exhaled. “Fine, now where the fuck is it, Junnie?”
“Uptown. That hall around the corner from Junior’s school, next to that Catholic church.”
As soon as she said that, I pulled off, fuck any car going in the same direction.
“She’s gonna be so mad at me.” Junnie shook her head.
I didn’t respond. I ran every fucking light I could. What should have been fifteen to twenty minutes was all of seven minutes and I double parked right there, leaving the car running.
“Stay right here. We won’t be long,” I said to Junnie before I got out of the car.
I climbed the stairs two at a time, then opened the doors.
I walked in, ready to wreck some shit because this right here was beyond me and she had me so fucked up.
I walked further into the space, taking in all of the decorations. This damn sure wasn’t her.
Flowers lined the space, everything white, even the fool standing at the altar in front of her had on a white suit.
Ol’ square ass. Why the fuck did she look like she was ready to be his wife when she belonged to me?
Everything about Syn, from the way she stood to the perplexed expression on her face, belonged to only me.
She was mine, from the day I took a life to save hers. Then why the fuck were we here?
Because I was too cowardly to believe she’d choose me when all she had been showing me was that she would.
Fuck!
“Does anyone object to the union of these two?” the pastor asked.
I walked right up the long ass aisle, making myself visible so she could see me, even though she was trying her darndest to be present where she was, in a fucking place she didn’t belong.
“I do. I fucking object,” I said loudly, locking eyes with her bitch ass father before my eyes went back to her.
Gasps filled the church, then I felt her eyes. She was looking right at me, right where she belonged.
“And she does too because she knows she’s wasting y’all’s fucking time. Don’t you, Syn?” I stopped when I was just a few feet from her.
She glared at me, those eyes full of anger and irritation. I deserved all the fury she wanted to toss my way because I pushed her into the arms of a fucking square before I could get my shit together.
“Why are you here, Posydiann?” she finally asked.
“Because you don’t belong to him or none of these people here. You mine, so let that man’s hand go before he loses his life here.”
Ol’ boy snatched his hand from her quickly.
I glared at her. “Now let’s go.”
“Posydiann, I can’t just leave with you.”
“And why the fuck not?” I got even more irritated but the look on her face made me calm down. She was genuinely afraid of something and I didn’t like that, not one fucking bit.
“I know about all that shit and you can. I’ma handle it. Let’s go.”
She looked at me, eyes wide before she looked at something behind me. I turned around and her brother stood there.
He nodded. “I don’t know what the fuck he’s holding over your head, but go with him.” He was pointing at their father by the time he finished speaking.
I extended my hand for hers. “Let’s fucking go, Karsyn.”
It felt like almost forever before she took my hand and I led her ass right down the two stairs before I stopped right in front of Curr.
With my free hand I pointed directly in his face, barely missing his pointy ass nose.
“And this shit between us still ain’t over. You’ll see me soon, bitch.”
We were halfway up the aisle when he finally found his voice, scary ass.
“You’re making a big fucking mistake, Karsyn. He won’t be able to save you from behind
bars.”
“Shut your bitch ass up and do it, you know where to find me, ol’ cloud looking ass nigga. Looking like you’re ready to stand your ass up there and get married.”
She didn’t speak the entire way back to my house, instead sitting in the back seat quiet and fragile, something she never was. I had fucked up and it would take an act of God for me to fix everything I had broken in her.
The car barely came to a stop before she was hopping out and running into the gate with that big, ugly ass white dress.
Then, to make matters worse, she tripped up the damn stairs over the veil barely on her head.
She didn’t fall too badly though, just enough to make that mad dash she had going on halt.
She turned around mad as hell, pointing toward the car. “Don’t you dare fucking laugh. This is not funny.”
“It’s funny as hell. Now take your mad ass in the house and take that dress off,” I said loudly out of the car window.
She huffed dramatically and continued into the house. Right after the screen door closed behind her, I glanced over at Junnie. She had yet to get out of the car, eyes on the woman who had just stormed into the house.
“Well, that’s done. I got a job for you, shorty.”
“What?”
“Plan the wedding.”
Confusion filled her features. “For whom?”
“You know who. Tomorrow night, out back. Small shit, by the end of the night we saying ‘I do.’”
Junnie was quiet. “Posydiann, that is—”
“How you make up for being a shitty ass cousin. Telling my woman to do what’s best for her. I’m what’s best for her.” I finished Junnie’s statement for her.
Junnie shook her head. “I cannot believe you think I owe you anything.”
“You do, and you just helped me fuck up hers, so go ahead and get that done. You know my card numbers, most of all, you know her.” I opened the car door, about to get out before she grabbed my wrist.
“How do you know she’s gonna say yes?”
I turned my face up at that question. “’Cause she ain’t got no fucking choice.”
“This is unrealistic as fuck.”
I shrugged. “It doesn’t need to be realistic. You got it or do I gotta put in a ca—”
“Nope, I got it. Do you even have a ring?”
“Nah, but I’ll handle that.”
She looked puzzled, but she got out of the car and so did I.
When I walked into the house, Killah was sitting on the couch staring at his phone which meant Junior was in his bedroom probably on the game.
“I thought for sure I’d be bailing you out.”
I shook my head, putting my keys and wallet on the table near the door. “I thought you would too, but that fat, greasy motherfucker is gonna have to suffer. I wasn’t making it easy for him at no point.”
He nodded. “Sis aight?”
“She's straight. Don’t go hopping any planes. we have something to handle tomo—”
The door opened behind me, interrupting what I was saying. “I love how you put this on my shoulders and now I have to do things on the fly.”
