Chapter 12 #2
I waved her off and moved toward the stairs. “Lock up when y’all leave.”
“Nigga where am I gonna go? You know what you just asked me to do? As a matter of fact, Killah, let's talk outside. Junior, I need you too,” Junnie called out, then stormed out the back door.
I didn’t stick around to see what Killah said. I went to where I felt pulled. Her.
When I entered my bedroom, the white dress was pooled on the floor and she was seated at the end of the bed. She was in one of my shirts, her hair still styled, wiping makeup from her face, staring into space.
“What’s wrong with you?” she asked, barely above a whisper.
“Everything. But if you’re what’s right with me, then that’s you.”
She shook her head. “You told me to stay away from you. That this wasn’t what you wanted.”
“I lied. Cowardice shit because I was afraid you wouldn’t choose me,” I responded honestly. There was no point in lying or saving face. After what I had just done, there was no space for any of that.
She was silent.
“Were you really gonna marry him and let him raise my child?”
“Yep.” She turned and looked at me, eyes as honest and doe as the day when I first met her. I couldn’t fault her though because I’d pushed her away. I pushed her into a corner and left her there.
“We’re even.”
“For what, Posydiann?”
“You thought you were doing what was right and so did I.”
“And what does that mean?”
“Let me fix what I broke and let me make it up to you, Syn.” Before I could catch myself, I was on my knees in front of her.
“And what if I say no?”
“You don’t mean that. You’re hurt, and I’ma give you your time to be that, but here with me and Junior like you belong. I love you, Karsyn, and no matter how bad I fucked up, that’s not gonna stop you from loving me. Just let me fix this.”
“How do you know you can? What if I need some space?”
“Then you can take that shit up under this roof with me and your stepson. Don’t punish him because you ain’t fucking with me.” I was up on my feet standing in front of her.
She giggled, the first time I heard her laugh in what felt like forever. “Even though I’m not fucking with you like that, I’d never take that out on him. Ever.”
“I know. So you really ain’t fucking with me?”
“No, I’m not. I don’t have anything here, but I think I’m gonna go to th—”
“Where? Syn, I know I’m asking a lot, especially with everything that’s going on, but we’ve had too much fucking space.
The only space you permitted to take from me is across a room, down some stairs, shit, the other side of the bed.
I might sound like a whole bitch when I say this, but I need you near me, like within arm’s fucking reach for the next several fucking months. ”
She shook her head. I could tell she wanted to tell me off, but a simple “fine” flowed from her lips.
“I’ve had enough excitement for the day. Do you think you could possibly retrieve my phone and purse from wherever it may be? I’m pretty sure all the people you just embarrassed me in front of are calling, along with my mother.”
I chuckled. “Moms knew what it was, so did Kolton. He probably has your stuff. I’ll find out. You know I’m not holding you hostage, right? You ca—”
“I know that, but honestly, I’m exhausted. You’d be surprised how much energy you have when you’re pregnant by a fucking lunatic who storms weddings in Gucci flipflops and basketball shorts. God.” She was laughing by the end of her statement.
I shrugged. “It wasn’t my wedding and apparently not yours either.”
She yawned. “I’ma take a nap. Do you have anything downstairs to eat?”
“Nope, but there’ll be something when you wake up.”
“You’re leaving?” she asked, standing to throw away the towelettes she used to remove the makeup from her face.
“To get something to eat, but I won’t be gone too long. Do you want something in particular?”
“A burger with steak sauce and fries. It’s all I’ve been craving,” she said as she reentered the bedroom, looking at me.
I laughed. “No shit, because that’s all I've been eating too. From Ninos, right?”
She nodded, pulling the covers back and laying down. “Do you really love me or did you just say that because you saw me about to marry another man?”
I rounded the bed, then took a seat next to her. “I told you I loved you that day you called yourself blocking me. Meant it with my whole fucking chest.”
The way she looked up at me gave me hope. She wasn’t messing with me now, but this wasn’t forever. We would get through this and that was what mattered.
“Speaking of.” I leaned forward and opened the nightstand, then pulled out the phone box. “This belongs to you.” I set the box next to her.
“Why are you giving me a phone?”
“Because you got one time to block me again and I promise I’m yoking your ass up.”
She laughed. “Get out. I’m going to sleep.”
“You do that, if you need something, call Junior. I should be back when you wake up.” I leaned down and kissed her. I for sure thought she was gonna push my ass away, but she didn’t. We kissed on some nasty shit, with me knowing damn well if I was serious about pulling tomorrow off I had to leave.
When I pulled back, I just looked at her. So fucking beautiful. My hand went to her midsection as a smile crept to my lips.
“So, you stormed her wedding this morning and plan to marry her tomorrow night. So now we’re at this high-priced ass mall so you can get an engagement and wedding ring.
” Killah’s voice filled my eardrum as I looked over the rings before me.
This was the second case and I had yet to lay eyes on anything that I saw on her.
I nodded.
“I fuck with it but let me show you where you’re fucking up. Ay, big homie, bring out the good shit, because this right here ain’t it and you boutta lose a sale. Top tier only, my brother is trying to get married tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow, huh? Big spender,” the older gentleman behind the glass said. He then pulled the set of rings I was looking at away from me and put it back behind the glass. “I have just what you’re looking for.”
He then walked to the back, leaving Killah and me in the front alone.
“You're tricking like that? You know the keywords to get them to pull out the expensive shit?” I asked, cutting my eyes at him.
He chuckled. “The problem is you ain’t tricking like that, so you don’t know.”
I shook my head. He was right. But then again, I never bought women anything, with Karsyn being the exception.
She wasn’t into too much jewelry, sticking mostly to the few pieces of gold she wore all the time.
So with her, it was never that. I’d purchased a fucking embroidery machine and expensive ass needles. That was tricking… had to be.
Seconds later, ol’ dude returned with a wide blue case and a big smile. “You buy a ring from here, we are family now,” he said, this time rounding the case to stand next to us.
I nodded. When he opened the case, I stared. All of this work easily cost a grip, or a bunch more, but with Karsyn, money was no object. It didn’t make or break her.
