Chapter Nineteen - Serena

The first night after we have sex, I return to my own room out of habit. I gather my things, go through my normal evening routine, try to pretend that what happened in Pavel’s bed doesn’t fundamentally alter everything between us.

That illusion lasts exactly twelve hours.

“Your things are being moved to my room,” Pavel informs me the next evening over dinner, his tone suggesting this isn’t up for discussion.

I set down my fork carefully. “Excuse me?”

“You’ll sleep in my room going forward.” He continues eating like he’s just commented on the weather. “It’s more practical given the circumstances.”

“What circumstances? We had sex once.”

“It means you’re mine now in ways that extend beyond legal documents.” His gaze meets mine across the table, direct and unwavering. “Which means you stay where I can protect you. Where I can see you. In my bed.”

The possessive declaration should spark my usual defiance. Should make me argue about autonomy and personal space and the fact that one night together doesn’t give him rights to dictate where I sleep.

Instead, heat pools low in my stomach at the memory of exactly what happens in his bed.

“Maybe I don’t want to.” The challenge comes out weaker than intended.

“You won’t refuse.” Not arrogant, just certain. “You want this as much as I do. Stop pretending otherwise.”

He’s right, which makes it infinitely more frustrating.

So now I’m here, in Pavel’s room—our room, I suppose—standing near the window while he works at his desk like having me present is perfectly normal.

My clothes hang in his closet beside his expensive suits.

My toiletries occupy half the bathroom counter.

The physical evidence of integration is everywhere.

The emotional reality is significantly more complicated.

I can’t stop thinking about the way his hands felt on my body, the controlled strength tempered with unexpected gentleness, the heat in his eyes when he looked at me.

The memory makes my skin flush and my breathing quicken despite the fact that we’re just occupying the same space right now. He’s reviewing reports, I’m supposedly reading a book, everything perfectly civilized.

Except I’ve read the same paragraph four times because my attention keeps drifting to him.

The way his shoulders fill out the dark shirt he’s wearing. The slight furrow between his brows when he’s concentrating. The way his fingers move across the tablet screen with precise efficiency that makes me remember exactly how those fingers feel—

“You’re staring.”

I jerk my gaze back to my book, face burning. “I’m not.”

“You are.” I can hear the amusement in his voice without looking up. “Something on your mind?”

Everything. Nothing I’m ready to articulate.

“Just thinking,” I say vaguely.

“About?”

“Nothing important,” I lie.

The silence stretches. I force myself to focus on the book, reading words that don’t register while hyperaware of Pavel’s presence across the room.

Eventually he stands, and I track the movement peripherally. He crosses to the bar, pours himself vodka, then moves to the window where I’m seated.

“Come here,” he says quietly.

It’s not a request. Something in his tone makes it feel less like a command and more like an invitation.

I set down the book and stand, closing the distance until I’m within reach.

He studies me for a long moment, and I wonder what he sees—the bruises have faded to yellow-green, the splint on my finger is less obtrusive now that the swelling has reduced, but the evidence of the warehouse is still visible.

“You’ve been tense all evening,” he observes.

“I’m fine.”

“You’re not.” His free hand reaches out to cup my jaw, thumb brushing across my cheekbone. “Tell me what you need.”

The question is so unexpected that honest answer escapes before I can filter it. “I don’t know.”

“Yes, you do.” He sets down the vodka glass, using both hands now to frame my face. “You’re thinking about the other night.”

My breath catches. “No.”

“Don’t lie to me, Serena.” His voice drops lower, more intimate. “I can see it in the way you look at me. The way your breathing changes when I get close. You want me to touch you again.”

“That’s arrogant.”

“That’s accurate.” He leans closer, close enough that I can smell his cologne mixed with something darker underneath.

He waits, giving me the opportunity to refuse.

I don’t take it.

Instead, I close the remaining distance and kiss him.

The response is immediate and overwhelming. His hands move from my face to my waist, pulling me flush against him while his mouth claims mine with possessive intensity. I make a small sound—need or surrender or both—and feel him smile against my lips.

“Bed,” he murmurs between kisses. “Now.”

We barely make it. Pavel walks me backward until my legs hit the mattress, then follows me down, his body covering mine with controlled weight. The position should feel confining but instead feels safe, protected, exactly where I want to be.

His mouth moves to my throat, finding the pulse point that makes me gasp. “Tell me what you want.”

“You.” The admission comes out breathless. “I want you.”

“More specific.” His teeth scrape along my collarbone. “Tell me exactly what you need, Serena.”

The demand for verbal participation makes my face heat, but there’s something intoxicating about saying it out loud. “I want your hands on me. Your mouth. I want—”

“What?” He pulls back slightly to look at me, pupils blown dark with want. “Say it.”

“I want you inside me again.” The words tumble out, shameless and desperate. “I want to feel you like I did before. I want everything.”

The confession seems to snap something in his control. He strips my clothes with efficient precision, then his own, until we’re skin to skin with nothing between us.

“You’re beautiful,” he says, and the reverence in his tone makes my chest tighten. “Every time I see you like this, it gets harder to maintain distance.”

“Then don’t.” I pull him down for another kiss. “Don’t maintain distance at all.”

What follows is slower than our first time—less frantic urgency, more deliberate exploration. Pavel takes his time mapping my body with hands and mouth, learning what makes me gasp versus moan versus beg.

When he finally pushes inside me, the sensation is just as overwhelming as before. I arch beneath him, taking him deeper, and watch his expression shift into something almost vulnerable.

“Serena,” he breathes, and my name has never sounded like that before—reverent and possessive and raw with need.

We move together, finding rhythm, and I’m overwhelmed by the sensation of him filling me completely. Every thrust drives deeper, hitting spots that make coherent thought impossible. My legs wrap tighter around his waist, heels digging into his lower back to pull him impossibly closer.

“Look at me,” he orders, his voice rough. “I want to see your face when you come.”

I force my eyes open, meeting his gaze. The intensity there steals my breath—dark hunger mixed with something softer, more vulnerable. He’s looking at me like I’m the only thing that exists, like nothing else matters beyond this moment.

“Pavel,” I gasp as he adjusts the angle, grinding against my clit with each thrust. “I can’t—it’s too much.”

“Yes, you can.” His hand slides between us, fingers finding that sensitive bundle of nerves and circling with practiced precision. “You’re going to come on my cock, Serena. I want to feel you fall apart.”

The dual stimulation is overwhelming. I arch beneath him, chasing the pleasure building with frightening intensity. My nails drag down his back, probably leaving marks, but he just groans and thrusts harder.

“That’s it,” he encourages, his rhythm becoming more erratic. “Let go. Give yourself to me.”

The orgasm crashes through me without warning, pleasure so intense it borders on painful.

My entire body tenses, inner muscles clenching around him rhythmically while waves of sensation roll through me.

I cry out his name loud enough that anyone in the hallway would hear, but I’m too far gone to care.

Pavel doesn’t stop. He works me through the orgasm, prolonging it until I’m trembling and oversensitive and begging for mercy.

“One more,” he says, slowing his pace but maintaining the deep, grinding rhythm. “I know you can give me one more.”

“I can’t!”

Except my body is already responding, building toward another peak despite my protests.

He pulls out suddenly, and I make a sound of loss that’s embarrassingly desperate. Before I can ask what he’s doing, he flips me onto my stomach with effortless strength.

“On your knees,” he orders.

I scramble to comply, rising onto hands and knees while he positions himself behind me. His hands grip my hips, fingers digging into the soft flesh with possessive pressure that will definitely leave bruises.

“Beautiful,” he murmurs, one hand sliding up my spine. “Do you have any idea how you look right now? Marks from my hands on your skin, flushed and trembling, so wet I can see it dripping down your thighs.”

The crude description makes me clench with need. “Pavel, please.”

“Please what?” He teases my entrance with the head of his cock, not pushing in yet. “Tell me what you want.”

“Fuck me.” The words come out desperate and shameless. “Stop teasing and fuck me.”

He slams home in one brutal thrust, and the new angle makes me scream into the pillow. He’s deeper like this, hitting spots that make stars explode behind my eyes.

“Is this what you need?” He sets a punishing pace, each thrust driving me forward. “My cock filling you, my hands on you, using you exactly how I want?”

“Yes!” I’m beyond embarrassment now, beyond anything except the overwhelming pleasure. “Yes, exactly this.”

His hand tangles in my hair, pulling my head back at an angle that makes my spine arch deeper. The position lets him drive even deeper, and I can feel my second orgasm building with terrifying speed.

“Pavel, I’m not going to last.”

“Come,” he orders, his voice rough with his own approaching release. “Come for me now, Serena.”

The second orgasm hits even harder than the first, pleasure so intense it whites out my vision completely. I’m dimly aware of crying out, of my arms giving out so my face presses into the pillow while my hips stay elevated by his bruising grip.

Pavel groans above me, his rhythm faltering as my inner muscles clench around him. “Fuck, Serena.”

“Inside,” I gasp, remembering just barely that I’m on birth control. “Come inside me, Pavel. I want to feel it.”

That permission destroys what’s left of his control. He buries himself to the hilt and stills, and I feel the pulse of his release filling me. The intimacy of it—being claimed and filled and marked as his in the most primal way—sends another smaller aftershock rippling through me.

We stay locked together for several long moments, both breathing hard, sweat-slicked skin cooling in the room’s air. Eventually Pavel pulls out slowly, and I feel his release start to leak out immediately.

The sensation should probably be uncomfortable or messy. Instead, it makes possessive satisfaction curl in my chest.

Pavel collapses beside me, pulling me with him so I’m tucked against his side. My head rests on his chest where I can hear his heartbeat gradually slowing from its frantic pace.

“You’re going to be sore tomorrow,” he observes, one hand trailing up and down my spine with lazy affection.

“Worth it,” I murmur against his skin.

He makes a satisfied sound low in his throat. “I’m sure it is.”
