4. Chelsi

CHAPTER FOUR

chelsi

“Fuck, Chelsi. That was incredible,” Logan says, getting up and heading to the bathroom to dispose of the condom and clean himself up.

I let out a soft sigh, basking in the orgasm afterglow when Logan comes back into my bedroom and starts putting on his clothes. It’s late Friday night, almost a week after Kate’s wedding, and I’m surprised to see him getting dressed since he usually stays over on the weekends.

“Are you going somewhere?” I ask, sitting up and pulling the sheet up to cover my chest.

“Yeah.” He buttons his jeans, then puts his shirt on without glancing in my direction. “Gonna head back home.”

“Oh, okay.” I try to conceal my confusion, not wanting to make it obvious I don’t understand what’s going on. Or why he seems to be acting so weird all of a sudden, causing my spidey senses to go on red alert.

“Listen. This has been fun,” Logan says, pointing between us, “but I don’t think it’s working out.”

“Excuse me?”

Am I hallucinating? He can’t be telling me it’s not working out immediately after fucking me.

“You’re great and all, but this was never meant to be a long-term thing.” Logan reaches for his phone on my nightstand and scrolls through it.

My lungs pump too fast as my palms turn clammy.

I pull the sheet higher up on my chest, feeling incredibly vulnerable and self-conscious.

“I’m confused. You pursued me. You’re the one who wanted us to be exclusive and asked me to be your girlfriend.

Why are you acting like you never wanted any of this? ”

He shakes his head and rolls his eyes. “You don’t get it, do you?”

“Clearly not. Care to explain?”

“I wasn’t looking to date anyone when we met at the bar.

Thought you’d be a good fuck and we’d go on our separate ways.

” He glances around my room, his eyes landing on the side table—the one with countless photos of Kate and me on it.

“Sex with you that first night was great.” He walks over to the table and picks up a picture frame.

“Then I realized who you are… Or, I guess, who you’re friends with. ”

Dread pools in my stomach, knowing what he’s going to say before the words even come out of his mouth. He didn’t date me because he wanted to be with me; he wanted a chance to get close to Kate and Jake.

“You used me?” I stammer, clutching the sheets tighter and trying to quell the rising nausea in my stomach.

He shrugs. “You could look at it that way. Their wedding was supposed to be one of the hottest events of the year, and I knew you could get me in. How many times does someone have the opportunity to go to a celebrity’s wedding?

So, I had to take my shot.” He crouches to put on his shoes, acting like none of this is a big deal.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I shout, anger roaring through every cell in my body. “We dated for months. You told everyone you were my boyfriend. You acted like we had a future.”

“We did… It just had an expiration date on it that I didn’t share with you.

” He stands up, checking his phone one more time.

“Don’t act like you didn’t get anything out of this.

I was more than generous in the bedroom.

Plus, you had a hot guy on your arm at the wedding and didn’t have to third wheel it like usual. ”

“Get the fuck out of my condo. I never want to see you again.” I point at the door as I quickly wrap the sheet around me and climb out of bed.

Logan chuckles and shakes his head, like my reaction is the most ridiculous thing he’s ever seen.

“No worries. I’m going.” He walks out of my bedroom and into the living area. I follow him, wanting to make sure this fucker gets the hell out of my home. He pauses in front of the door and turns around to look at me. “If you’re ever interested in hooking up again, I’m game for it.”

What. The. Actual. Fuck!

“Get out!”

He smirks, then turns to open the door. “You know how to reach me if you change your mind. Remember how easy it is for me to make you come.”

I scoff and cross my arms over my chest, glaring at him. “I wouldn’t fuck you again if you were the last man alive.”

Logan opens the door and steps out into the hallway, taking one final look at me. “It’ll be less than a month before you’re begging for my cock.”

I snicker loudly. “You wish.” Grabbing hold of the door, I plaster on a fake smile. “And the so-called magical tongue you prattle on about all the time…well, I’ve had high school boyfriends eat me out better than you. Goodbye, motherfucker,” I say, slamming the door in his face.

The silence of the condo hits me square in the chest as I’m flooded with embarrassment, anger, and overall malaise.

How did I let myself become so fooled by this man?

Why didn’t I see any of the signs?

How did I allow myself to entertain the possibility that he could’ve been the one?

For the first time in a very long time, I collapse onto the floor and sob about a man.

Grieving the future I thought could be possible as I accept that I’m single again.
