Chapter 13

Festival Fiasco

It was the weekend of the annual city festival, and Samantha groaned at Ethan’s text: “Pack your walking shoes. Adventure awaits!”

She arrived at the festival to find Ethan already there, waving a giant cotton candy in one hand and a map in the other. “Welcome to chaos central!” he declared.

Samantha laughed. “I swear, you plan these just to see me suffer.”

“Or laugh,” he corrected, grinning. “Mostly laugh.”

They wandered through crowded streets, sampling food, playing carnival games, and trying to avoid being squashed by stroller-pushing parents. Everything was fine—until Ethan challenged Samantha to a ring toss game.

“Watch this,” he boasted, tossing rings with exaggerated confidence. “I am a master.”

Samantha watched, unimpressed, until he tripped over his own feet mid-throw, sending rings flying into a nearby prize pile. A stuffed unicorn tumbled onto Samantha’s shoulder.

“Oh my gosh,” she said, laughing so hard she could barely breathe. “You’re impossible!”

Ethan grinned sheepishly. “But look! You got a prize!”

The chaos continued with bumper cars, an unexpected rain shower, and Ethan somehow ending up covered in neon face paint by the end of the day. But Samantha found herself laughing non-stop, holding his hand as they navigated each mishap together.

“You know,” she said, finally catching her breath, “I think I’ve accepted that life with you is… never boring.”

Ethan smirked, brushing rainbow paint off his cheek. “Accepted it? Sam, I’m hoping you love it. Because there’s plenty more where this came from.”

Samantha shook her head, laughing again. “I… I think I do. Somehow. Against all logic.”

And as the sun set over the festival lights, Samantha realized that love with Ethan wasn’t neat or simple—it was messy, colorful, and full of laughter. Exactly the kind of chaos she didn’t know she needed.
