Chapter 20
Perfectly Messy
It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, and Samantha found herself sitting on a park bench, waiting for Ethan.
“Finally,” she muttered to herself as she saw him jogging toward her, holding a small picnic basket. “He’s late… of course.”
Ethan arrived, out of breath but grinning, tripping slightly over the bench as he dropped the basket. “Sorry! Traffic… chaos… you know.”
Samantha laughed, shaking her head. “You’re hopeless.”
“Hopelessly yours,” he added, holding out the picnic blanket.
They settled on the grass, unpacking sandwiches, cookies, and a thermos of cocoa. The sun was warm, the breeze gentle, and for a moment, nothing could go wrong.
“Well,” Samantha said, leaning back, “I think we’ve survived everything this city has thrown at us.”
Ethan smirked, brushing crumbs off her jacket. “Survived? Sam, we thrived. Chaos just happens to be our love language.”
Samantha laughed, reaching for his hand. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love… all of it. You. Me. Messy adventures. Quiet moments. Even the disasters.”
Ethan’s eyes softened. “I love you too. More than I ever thought possible. And I promise… more adventures await. Messy, chaotic… but ours.”
She smiled, leaning her head on his shoulder. “Perfectly messy, huh?”
“Perfectly messy,” he echoed, kissing the top of her head.
As they sat together, sharing cocoa and laughter, Samantha realized that love didn’t have to be neat or planned. It could be sticky, chaotic, unpredictable—and still be the most beautiful thing in the world.
And with Ethan by her side, she knew every messy, imperfect moment would be exactly where she was meant to be.
