Chapter 13

Snowy Confessions

That evening, the town was quiet, blanketed in fresh snow. The streets glowed softly under lanterns, and the air smelled faintly of pine and winter fires. Emma was closing up The Page Turner when Lucas appeared outside the door, holding a small lantern.

“Thought you might like a walk,” he said, grinning. “Just the two of us.”

Emma smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “I’d love that.”

They wandered through the silent streets, the crunch of snow underfoot the only sound. Lucas occasionally brushed his gloved hand against hers, each touch sending a shiver of warmth through Emma’s chest.

At the park near the river, the ice glimmered under the moonlight. Lucas stopped and held out the lantern, its glow reflecting in Emma’s eyes. “It’s beautiful,” he said softly.

Emma nodded, words caught in her throat. “It really is,” she whispered.

He stepped closer, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. “Emma… there’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you.”

Her heart raced. “Yes?”

Lucas took a deep breath, eyes locked on hers. “I… I think I’ve fallen for you. Completely. And I can’t stop thinking about you. Every laugh, every smile… it’s all you.”

Emma felt a rush of warmth, her cheeks flushing. “Lucas… I feel the same. I’ve been trying not to, but… I can’t. You make everything brighter.”

He smiled, a mixture of relief and tenderness in his eyes. Slowly, he leaned in, capturing her lips in a gentle, lingering kiss. Snow swirled around them, and for a moment, it felt as if the world had melted away, leaving only the two of them and the quiet magic of the winter night.

When they finally pulled apart, Lucas rested his forehead against hers. “I’m glad,” he whispered. “Because I don’t plan on letting go.”

Emma laughed softly, leaning into him. “Good. Because I’m not letting go either.”

As they stood together under the soft glow of the lanterns, Emma realized that some confessions didn’t need words beyond the warmth of a hand held, a shared smile, and the quiet certainty that love had finally found them.
