Chapter 15

Cocoa and Candles

The café was unusually quiet that evening, the snow falling softly outside the frosted windows. Ivy had lit a few candles on the counter, their warm glow mingling with the soft lamplight to create a gentle, intimate atmosphere.

“I thought you might like this,” Lucas said, carrying a small tray with two mugs of hot cocoa, the aroma of chocolate filling the air.

Ivy’s eyes softened. “You didn’t have to.”

He shrugged, a playful grin tugging at his lips. “I like seeing you smile.”

They settled into a cozy corner booth, the snow muffling the world outside. For a while, they simply sipped their cocoa in comfortable silence, the warmth of the drinks mirrored by the warmth spreading through their hearts.

“You know,” Lucas began, his voice soft, “I’ve always loved winter nights like this. Quiet, peaceful… feels like the world slows down.”

Ivy nodded, tracing the rim of her mug with her finger. “I like it too. Especially when it’s shared with someone who makes it feel… special.”

Their eyes met, and the air between them seemed to thrum with unspoken words. Lucas reached out, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. Ivy’s hand trembled slightly as she touched his, holding it for just a moment longer than necessary.

“You’re… hard to ignore,” Lucas said quietly, his blue eyes searching hers.

Ivy laughed softly, a blush rising to her cheeks. “I could say the same about you.”

They leaned back in their seats, sipping cocoa, their shoulders brushing occasionally.

It wasn’t a grand gesture or a dramatic confession, but it was perfect in its own quiet way—the slow burn of love unfolding in shared warmth, gentle touches, and the safety of being truly seen by someone who cared.

As the snow continued to fall outside, Ivy realized that this—small, tender, and unhurried—was exactly what she had been waiting for. And with Lucas, every winter night, every laugh, every shared glance, promised to be unforgettable.
