Chapter 13
Rain-Kissed Moments
The sky had been clear when Hannah left her house, but by the time she reached the boardwalk, dark clouds had gathered, rolling across the horizon like a brewing storm.
Ethan was already there, pacing slightly, sketchbook tucked under his arm. “Looks like we might get wet,” he called out, spotting her.
Hannah smiled nervously. “I don’t mind a little rain.”
Before she could say more, a sudden downpour began, the first drops splattering against the wooden boards. Ethan laughed, pulling off his jacket. “Come on, don’t just stand there!”
Hannah hesitated, then let him tug her along, running to the edge of the pier. Rain soaked them both, plastering hair to faces, drenching their clothes. But instead of discomfort, a thrill of exhilaration coursed through her.
“You’re crazy!” she shouted over the roar of the rain, laughing.
“And you love it!” Ethan shot back, spinning her around.
For a moment, the world narrowed to just the two of them—the storm, the sea, the boardwalk disappearing into the blur of rain. Hannah’s laughter rang out, mingling with Ethan’s, the playful chaos of the moment leaving them both breathless.
Then, as the rain eased into a gentle drizzle, Ethan grabbed her hands, holding them tightly. “Hannah… I’ve been waiting for a moment like this,” he admitted, voice low but certain.
“What do you mean?” she asked, heart racing.
“This,” he said, leaning closer, eyes searching hers. “Not the rain… us. Being here. Feeling… this.”
Hannah’s cheeks warmed as she realized the meaning behind his words.
Without thinking, she closed the distance, letting him guide her closer.
Their foreheads touched, and for the first time, the slow burn between them sparked into something more tangible—a kiss, fleeting and soft, but charged with all the emotions they had held back for so long.
The rain continued to fall around them, washing away hesitation, leaving only the undeniable truth: whatever their letters, their sketches, or their playful games had built, it had led to this.
And in that rain-soaked moment, Hannah knew that the slow-burn love they had nurtured was finally beginning to ignite.
