Chapter 10
Moonlit Performance
The academy announced a surprise moonlight recital on the rooftop terrace, an event meant to showcase student talents in a more casual, intimate setting. Clara hesitated when she heard about it—performing under the open sky was thrilling but nerve-wracking.
“You’ll be amazing,” Liam said, noticing her hesitation as they climbed the stairs. “Besides, I’ll be right there with you.”
Clara nodded, trying to steady her nerves. The terrace was bathed in silver moonlight, lanterns casting a warm glow over the gathered students. A gentle breeze ruffled the music sheets, and Clara shivered slightly.
As they played, the music floated into the night, blending with the soft murmurs of the audience. Liam’s cello complemented her violin perfectly, each note carrying a subtle intimacy that only they could feel.
Mid-performance, a sudden gust of wind sent one of Clara’s sheet music pages flying. She gasped, but before she could react, Liam’s hand was there, catching it mid-air.
“Got it,” he said with a reassuring smile.
Clara felt a flush of warmth at his thoughtfulness. “Thanks,” she whispered, their fingers brushing again.
After they finished, applause erupted from the small crowd. Liam leaned close, his voice barely audible over the cheering. “See? You were perfect… and so were we together.”
Clara smiled, heart fluttering. “We really are a good team, aren’t we?”
He nodded, eyes lingering on her. “The best.”
That night, as the students trickled away and the lanterns flickered in the gentle breeze, Clara realized that the slow burn between them was no longer just a possibility—it was undeniable.
The trust, the shared music, and the small moments of connection were building something that neither of them wanted to rush but both were quietly eager to see grow.
